Modern Wisdom Why in the name of someones holy entry would ANYONE go from being an AMATEUR (someone who acts out of love) to a professional (someone who acts to make money) ... makes zero sense to me, I guess you are americans right? ...
@@runethorsen8423 monetary value is assigned to professionalism because it is inherently higher in quality than amateurism. Professionalism is rewarded in nonmonetary ways as well - recognition, appreciation, and respect as examples. Pro-bono work is free, does that mean it's not professional? It's not some soulless late stage capitalist conspiracy.

This is an amazing video. Like Douglass Murrey said I think we and this podcast should spend less time on crazy SJW nonsense and more on how to improve our independent lives. Look forward to the awesomeness.
Then again most of the people on the planet are just hussling to survive literally. I am guessing a pedal rickshaw driver in Delhi wherever would love the opportunity to even think about turning pro. It is a luxury that many people couldn't even comprehend.
I think the book is great and has helped many people. I'm glad for Mr.Pressfield's success in this field. I do think the short way to say all this stuff about resistance is just this: discipline. Get your ass to work. Picasso put it more succinctly. He said, "I believe in inspiration but it must find you working." So quit screwing around and go to work!
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.--Hunter S. Thompson This is the obvious quote, just starting to listen, so not sure if this was mentioned. Times have certainly turned weird.

Spot on about addicts being boring. When you think about it, they use drugs to hide a lack of personality - or at least to enhance it. The person isn't interesting, the drugs make them that way in many cases.
Amazing interview! Surprised you don't have more followers yet! I love Steven's work and watch all videos with him (mostly interviews) and this is by far the best interview I've seen - and that speaks to your skills as an interviewer. Excited to check out more videos on this channel!
Michael Jordan was mediocre at baseball and golf. He had no natural talent for those sports. He had natural talent for basketball. Therefore his extremely hard work in basketball paid off. His hard work in golf and baseball made him a mediocre player cause he had not enough talent in those particular sports.

What about amateurs who are extremely hard on themselves to the point of thinking "nothing is ever good enough, so why even bother?" It results from the fixed mindset.
Being an addict is not conducive to being creative. If you want to hear this articulated very beautifully listen to the most recent David Choe episode on JRE. He explains he is attempting to pull away from the chaotic lifestyle he believed he needed to live, to create art. He believes you can be stable, calm and disciplined without the chaos and still make great art. He of course is right. I love this mans work. I’ve read his books literally dozens of times for a reminder that the work is not always fun and definitely not easy but it needs to be done none the less. Be a pro and not an amateur.

This was phenomenal. Hearing Steven still worried as he starts his new book and having 15 “going pro” moments is beautiful. It never ends :)
Mr. Pressfield is stunningly insightful and nuanced in pointing out what so many of us avoid, myself certainty included.
