Excellent review! I purchased one of these back in November and have not been disappointed. The detail really is amazing, and no video camera can do it justice. This is a really well-done model. It has a proper "heavy freight steamer" look to it, and whether is hauling a long line of cars or just sitting still, it pulls views. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking about purchasing one!
I've brought the Sänta Fe 4-8-4 #3751 and like it so much that I turn around and brought one of the 2-10-2. I'm a modern day BNSF man but these two Santa Fe steamers was a must. Broadway Limited have done a damn good job with with these two locomotives.
I found one of these for $300 at a train store I go to. The locomotive is used but I’ve been waiting to get it for a while now. Hopefully it will still be available once I get around to buying it
Wow, cool. Thanks James. And thanks for the other reviews, as I was inspired to get my Step Dad Broadway Limited's 2-8-0 DCC-sound for Christmas, it was a good choice. Their steam locos are indeed super detailed and and run really nicely. Not too bad of a price either, especially for what your getting..
Thank you for reviewing such a beautiful locomotive! This video inspired me to look hard for one (hard to find for me) and I ended up finding one new! I'll be doing a review as well on it. Anyway she's a beauty, that's for sure! P.S. At about 4:00 I noticed the handrail on the boiler front appears to be a bit messed up. Not sure how it'd get messed up like that but that handrail looks a little weird compared to mine. You can also see that at 9:25
Great review! I like to see how Broadway Limited has stepped up there game on locomotive features! I just purchased the BLI MT-73 Union Pacific 4-8-2 #7021 from Modeltrainstuff.com since they had very few in stock and for a very good discount price. Payed $289.99 plus UPS is a killer for shipping these days. My first BLI locomotive and watching these makes me have high hopes of getting more of there trains in the future! Thanks for sharing!
Hey James, just saw another video explaining dcc equipped and dcc ready. I'm about to purchase a dcc system but heard that dcc doesn't always mean that you get sound with it all the time. Is this true, because I don't want to make a 90 dollar mistake and buy a dcc transmitter and a train that is dcc equipped but has no sound. I might as well keep my dc power transmitter and get trains that have dcc and just deal without sound. Thanx for listening to my ramblings.
Outstanding review, Sir. I'm sold! ...And to think I was going to stay with standard DC Cab Control. Most impressive, if one could actually pick just one thing, was the synchronized puffing smoke. My Home Sgt. likes all that now. "OK, Honey! Get my musket. We're goin' to the bank!" (Just kidding! Don't want DHS and the FBI knocking at the door.) By the way, I mentioned to our buddies at TrainWorld that your series has been very influential in my switching to DCC. Thanks.
hey James I just got one for these beautiful engines. i tried to get a cab address on our clubs layout. and it had problems. we use digitrax. did you encounter any issues with that?
Sorry Melvin, we had limited space to run. The smoke is more constant at higher speeds and it will smoke the basement up if you have it on the highest setting.
They're great while there running. All three of mine have had gearbox failures. Then again I have over twelve BLi's with drive failures, including Y6b's, Big Boys, PRR 2-10-0, M1a & M1b etc etc - very disappointing. I think if you charge more than say a Bachmann, you should be at least as good as a Bachmann
Yes I do, my last purchase from them was just last week for the Kato N scale #844 which is a 4-8-4 locomotive, it's two tenders and the passenger car set.
James, mine just arrived yesterday from Silver City Hobby way up there in Taunton, MA. and I'm looking forward to running this baby as soon as the new layout track is completed. I got mine for $308 w/shipping so it appears I've done well also. I was hoping you had a review on this particular steam locomotive because you always have some great review presentations. Question? Is # 3851 the only road number for this locomotive? The reason I ask is a guy at the local train club has one & his, yours & mine are all # 3851. I didn't see any smoke fluid in the box so I guess I need to pick up a bottle since this is my 1st real smoke steam locomotive from BLI. OK, great presentation as usual James & I loved the "male model for brown people magazine" comment, lol. That was excellent! Take care buddy, Bo - down here in the Lone Star.
mine is 3888 and it has the road pilot and non operational Back up light. these are road engines I believe. the numbers that have the headlight on the tender and the switcher pilot on the loco indicates that they were primarily pushers
patrick Hera yes it will work just fine. however double heading unspeed matched locomotives in dc operation is not a great idea if you plan to operate them doubleheaded for a long period of time. It is safer to do in DCC operation.
Beautiful looking locomotive, but those sounds are DREADFUL! They sound like they are from an entry-level decoder and not really deserving of such a nicely made loco.
It is not a short locomotive. Do your research. Say Locomotive 50 more times . We know what t is. When weighing the Locomotive it is just the loco that deals with the pulling power in the weight that it has . The tender is actually drag weight and has nothing to do with pulling power . So the combined weight is pretty much useless and can be confusing for the actual purpose of weighing in.

The cab figures are very nice, but that whistle cord really sets it apart in terms of detail that stands out. Very nice touch.
Now that is one detailed locomotive. BLI always impresses me.
Yeah I was thoroughly impressed.

I have a friend at my model railroad club that had two of these 2-10-2's pulling a ice refer train. Great review as well.
Thanks man! See you at the next train fest!
Great review James. Thanks for sharing. . Love the smoke and sound of the whistle
Thanks for watching Lance.
Great review James. That looks like a beautiful locomotive.
Thanks William.
That is one of my favorite locomotive's from the Santa fe. I want one so bad. Great review bud.
Thanks for the inspiration James and to make me decide to jump from O gauge to HO..thanks again..
Nice video of the review of the BLI ATSF 2-10-2 I got one too as a Christmas gift all of your videos are awesome I like them. Kyle.
Thanks Kyle!
Thanks for the reviews they save me alot of money
Thanks Jeremy.
Nice I just ordered one last week, should be here tomorrow or Tuesday.

Great review. The steam engines looks and sounds great.
Scott
Thanks Scott!

Awesome review James
Thanks!
I caught the NS Erie heritage engine in Ayer Ma on 12-28-14 I uploaded the video
Nice video, good review, great looking locomotive. I need to get one of these.
Thanks Joe!
NICE JOB JAMES. I'M NOT INTO STEAM BUT FIND IT INTERESTING THANKS FOR THE VIDEO.
Thank you.
Thanks for such excellent review, what are the metal parts of this model?

Awesome review James!!
Thanks man!
Sure! Thanks for the sub!
Does it come with a backup light in that packet or do you have to buy one with a backup light
Have you had any problems with this engine? I've heard that others have had problems with some other of the BLI engines.
Dang it James you beat me to it! lol Great review man. For me it's either the h10 or the 2-10-2, I can't really decide which one I should get :P
Thanks!
Could you show the Alaska Railroad SD70MAC running or a DCC installation video, ect.?
Here is my video of that:
ua-cam.com/video/Y9-MBejBwAI/v-deo.html
Cool review.
Thanks!
How do you get automatic bell sound on your last layout
hey James I just got one for these beautiful engines. i tried to get a cab address on our clubs layout. and it had problems. we use digitrax. did you encounter any issues with that?
no, I would call bli. that's not normal
@jlwii2000 can you review a BLI 2-8-2 Mikado?
Any idea as to what the difference is between the modernized version and the old version?
I'm not sure, sorry.
good review would like to have seen how the smoke looked at a higher rate of speed slow was impressive though.
Sorry Melvin, we had limited space to run. The smoke is more constant at higher speeds and it will smoke the basement up if you have it on the highest setting.
nice model
Can anyone tell me the significance if ATSF 3851?
Sweet!
Thanks!
Great review James. I may need to find one of these in N Scale if there is one. Maybe someday. Bachmann makes one, I wonder how it compares?
Not sure Bob. I'd have to take a look.
Bachmann does tend to be a little light. So watch the number of cars, I've never had one so can't say much.
Always check on ebay first. You can get this train brand new for $260.
they do have good prices on certain things.
Hi does the tender need to be connected to the locomotive for it to run
Yep.
when I got mine a couple months ago as a consignment from a trusted seller to the model train store i take it home and the headlight wont work
plus mine doesnt have reverse light, i think thats because its proto correct to the number
and i think its the previous version of that as theres no smoke unit or builders plate
They're great while there running. All three of mine have had gearbox failures. Then again I have over twelve BLi's with drive failures, including Y6b's, Big Boys, PRR 2-10-0, M1a & M1b etc etc - very disappointing. I was wondering, do you shop for trains at trainworld.com ?
Yes I do, my last purchase from them was just last week for the Kato N scale #844 which is a 4-8-4 locomotive, it's two tenders and the passenger car set.
Just my luck i'll get this engine in a few months with the help of my bro Marc
You sure own alot of stuff. What is your occupation?
I'm a model for brown people magazine.
You are a male model?
***** Well Ill be damned.
Railwaytube LOL guys I'm kidding. My day job is Air Force.
***** You sp00ked me there.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

i like the smoke
Do other ho train models besides bachmann work on bachmann eze track
Yes pretty much all HO and OO will work on it
K4JW if you combine a bachmann and another ho scale train brand in one ez track will it go smoothly
patrick Hera yes it will work just fine. however double heading unspeed matched locomotives in dc operation is not a great idea if you plan to operate them doubleheaded for a long period of time. It is safer to do in DCC operation.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Pity they haven't done this in N. Or perhaps safer that they haven't, I think my credit card would melt. :)
Nice review but for the money I don't want traction tires, seems like that axle could have rubber wheels for traction
im not going towatch this I call it being a modle a waist of eye sight
What?
