An absolutely incredible song. I'm more inclined to playing Jazz on my sax, but this song has got me back into classical. It provokes so many different emotions, it is truly one of the greatest sax songs of all time.

So what's up with the melodic difference of the main melody? First it's E to c on the and of 3 but the second time, it's e to D on two and the and but not played that way. Just an interpretation choice or is something wrong with the music??
Start Slow. VERH VERY VERY slow. Like to the point that it feels stupid, then still lower it by 10 clicks. Start off with each 16th = 70BPM, then slowly speed it up by 5 clicks after you nail it at the tempo twice of three times in a row.
idk if i am the only one that can hear this but if you listen you can hear the sounds of the buttons being pressed at some parts from the alto saxophone
thats always going to happen whenever the microphone is placed close to the sax. and if you move it further away, there isnt good stereo separation. so its always a tradeoff. you wouldnt be able to hear that in a live performance because the sound of key noise doesnt carry very far. but long story short, its normal on sax recordings. a lot of people hate it, but over time we get used to it.
The cadenza is ad lib, meaning the performer makes it up themselves. For a piece like this its extremely likely that the soloist planned out exactly what they were going to play. If you're talking about the specific technique he was using, he was playing a note then playing it again using an alternate fingering to give it a different tone.
@@tyluvzcats it's not actually ad libbed, the performer was playing a written part (that's found on the soloist score), but yes the alternate fingering thing is used during the cadenza, fingers 4+5+6 for A and 5+6+C for G
Octive key first finger and third finger not putting your middle finger on the c key, that’s the top hand, bottom hand is first finger third finger with pinky on the e flat key, and also press down the b flat key, mover your bottom lip further down the reed to the thicker section, and try and try untill you hit it🤷♂️
You can do front F# assuming you have a high f sharp key, and the side Bb key and it will be really flat, but if you bend the pitch you can counter it and it's relatively easy

If you played it well, it's pretty much an automatic win. Good to hear you didn't waste this blessing.
What a great piece for the alto sax repertoire! It has a relatively basic harmony which allows for memorable melodies and overall virtuosity.
Makes sense given a saxophonist wrote it. No one writes for an instrument better than their own instrument.
