I could never stop saying enough great things about this game! I played this game incessantly; the distinctively-unique sound of your gunshots and explosions are etched permanently into my brain! "Top Secret Episode" really got you so involved. I loved this game so much as a kid that it had actually inspired me to novelize its plot for a novella I wrote of this game!
This is the most passionate nerdout I've seen on the UA-cam comments section. Lol

It was One Piece before One Piece. One of the longest running series ever. I was quite sad when I heard the news about Saito's passing. I hope he knew that he has inspired many people with his series
Oh the nights spent mapping out that Rio maze level. Felt like a GOD getting just out of that area, let alone finishing the game it'self.

Love the main theme played during the intro. Reminds me of some of John Barry's best work on the James Bond movies, the main theme for On Her Majesty's Secret Service in particular.
It's also heard when you pause the game, and when you find your beloved custom M16 gun during one of the maze chases in Act 7.
Duke Togo reminds me of George Lazenby a little!
this was my #1 favorite game. I wish they redid it. Music plot gameplay was ridiculous
Not that ridiculous, not that being ridiculous is a bad thing. The great thing about Japanese works of this nature is that they can be completely ridiculous without being self-aware. The music sets the tone nicely. The plot is classic Japanese Cold War spy thriller stuff with some sci-fi thrown in for good measure. The game is engaging and varied. And if this was your "#1 favorite game," why do you want remade on the grounds that it was ridiculous? That doesn't seem very logical.

I still have this game in its original packaging. Loved it. Spent hours playing it.
However, the dialog scenes where Golgo 13 spoke with a contact always cracked up my friend and me because of the ridiculous distance between Golgo 13 and the person to whom he was speaking. The joke was that the person talking to G13 was usually sharing some kind of top secret information but having to yell it in order to be heard from so far away.
"BE CAREFUL, GOLGO-13! THIS INFORMATION IS TOP SECRET AND COULD GET BOTH OF US KILLED. NOW, LET ME TELL YOU EVERYTHING FROM WAY OVER HERE..."
what a hidden gem, would have been great to have this game back in the day.

In all reality, I think I actually kept my Golgo 13 and never returned it, because it was too fuckin hard.
And here I am, over 30 years later, watching someone else beat a game I never even got close to beating and racked up so many rental fees that I had to wait till the fuckin company went out of business.

In any other game universe, I'd scoff at the idea of the player shooting down helicopters with a pistol and sinking submarines with a speargun.
But this is Golgo 13. His single pistol bullet is headshotting the pilot, hitting the fuel tank, rupturing the coolant system, whatever it takes...

I guess I was too young for this game when it came out. I tried playing it again somewhere between 10 and 20 years ago and got to the final boss. I never did figure out that you're supposed to shoot those little red dots. Wow!

I'd always take out the turrets and the bazooka guys by rushing onto them while jumping, and then constantly jump-kicking over them repeatedly. Rare occasions the times I'd get hit, it works so well

the one thing that's always been strange he is how almost all games portray something like Russia being the bad guy when I also noticed that there aren't very many other tropes out there that are different to this narrative it seems kind of weird now that I think about it

When I was a kid in the 80s I had a Nintendo and I grew up in a Christian household where we couldn't have R-rated things. One day I saw this in a bin at a thrift shop and asked if I could get it just because it was a Nintendo game I figured worst case scenario would be really bad. Me nor my parents had any idea The Source material and they never paid attention to my video games at all even though I don't have any memories of this game being R-rated. One day sometime later I came across a galgo comic book and read the thing a number of times. It in itself is probably PG-13 compared to the game that I would call PG. But then again someday later I came across Golgo the movie and that definitely is rated R and even though it was beyond my years and had a lot of nudity I watched it.... mainly to see the poorly animated nudity😅

i finished this when i was young god damn its soo hard. i finished the japanese version. i never thought there are s*x scene in the game until i went inside the hotel. you can kick some of the NPC to death if you are low in HP/bullet. this game is hard specially i cant read nihongo before.
In the Greece enemy base maze, the compass spells out N E S multiple times. Ironic.
