So it’s not really expressed in this episode so I figured I’d explain how the school system works. Each student is placed into one of 9 tracks of magic that they specialize in, and what track they’re in is denoted by the color of their sleeves. Plant magic obviously specializes in plants, and their color is green. Abomination magic makes golems out of purple goop, their color is purple. Illusion magic obviously makes illusions, their color is a light blue. Beastkeeping magic trains and domesticates wild beats, and their color is orange. Bard magic uses instruments to control sound waves to attack, and their color is red. Potion magic is brewing potions for battle, their color is yellow. Healing magic heals obviously, their color is a dark blue. Construction magic is basically earth bending, and their color is brown. And finally, Oracle magic summon spirits and use telepathy, and their color is another shade of purple.
That makes so much sense, I take it this is explained at a later date within the series - but thanks none the less for explaining it to me now! such a cool concept :)
@@JNDReacts Some people do call that colour purple. That's why they said "another shade of purple". But personally, what I call purple is a darker colour, and has more blue to it, like the oracle magic uniform. So I would refer to the abomination uniform as pink as well.
The introduction to the ways of magic and the school! Side note: The school's name is "Hexside: School of Magic and Demonics", we just refer to it as Hexside
0:28 To clarify the line was "every myth you humans have is from a little of our world leaking into yours." Meaning that griffins, magic, witches, etc. Come from the demon world. It doesn't leak back and forth or whatever.
"Doesn't fit the Disney brand", because the series is run around an overarching storyline, instead of singular stand-alone episodes. I highly disagree with this "dumbing-down" approach. LOTS of age 6-11 kids read comics with storylines (X_Men just 1 example), and PLENTY of parents have expressed watching this show with their kids, who get the main storyline. That parents and 20-45 aged fans watch this show ISN'T a bad thing, but reflects the backlash against CEO Bob Chapek's recent comments that animation isn't appealing to adults (paraphrasing).
Same. One would think Disney would actually like a show with a similar vibe to Gravity Falls, since that would be popular, but considering the drama that show had behind the scenes, Disney probably decided they didn't want another disobedient showrunner and cut Owl House short, which is sad.
You have it somewhat backwards, the creatures and stuff from the Demon Realm leaks into the Human Realm, which is where some of our myths, cursed objects, and creatures come from. The Demon Realm is its own place separate from the Human Realm with its own history and geology; treat it as say, another planet, with its debris sometimes crash landing into Earth and Earth scientists finding the remains-- studying it and making up theories about its origins and use. Whatever the Humans imagine just doesnt happen/appear in the Demon Realm. It needs to exist in the Demon Realm first and leak to the Human Realm before we Humans learn about it. On the flip side, the Demon Realm gets junk that leaks through natural portals to the Human Realm. So, similar to how we make somewhat inaccurate assumptions and media about mythical beings, the Witches and Demons from the Demon realm also have myths and inaccurate assumptions about Humans.
@@thereactionking Yeah like in episode 1 Eda mentioned that they banished all of the giraffes from the demon realm. But I think that’s the only instance of a whole species coming to our world, and the only time it was on purpose as far as I know. No mention of their close cousins like camels though.
I got the impression that TOH was bringing in an older demographic than Disney thought their brand should appeal to. It was admitted, following the broadcast of the first episode of season 3 that they had completely underestimated the show's popularity due to the fact they discounted social media reactions such as on Twitter and UA-cam. There may or may not be something to the claims of Disney backing off from the (absolutely perfect) representation of LGBTQ+ , but then because Disney keeps fence sitting on that , they get attacked for hating LGTBQ+ from one side, but also accused by the far right of having a long-term pro-LGBTQ+ agenda that they supposedly push aggressively. I think the demographic argument may be best, with an older viewer base the ads for toys, etc. are not getting their best mileage. Otoh, they have also totally missed out on millions of $ in merchandise sales... Tunnel vision makes you miss out on a lot!
@@thereactionking I think this was specifically DisneyChannel’s decision, not Disney as a whole. Considering Disney makes pg-13 movies, the entire company’s target demographic isn’t just ages 6-11, but DisneyChannel in particular is aimed at that group.
The Owl House was cancelled because of the LGBT rep in the show. The showrunner had to fight for it and when she won they said ok but say bye to your full third season :)
You should def watch Infinity Train (a four season anthology), Centuarworld (2 seasons, its very cartoony but is also really dark and the last episode pushes animation boundries, but it's not for everyone) and Over the Garden Wall (which is the best mini series ever)
Believe it or not, ive seen all 3! I had some reactions to Infinity Train and OTGW on UA-cam before my old channel got deleted and the reactions went with them...sadly :(
True. Early episodes like this one seemed to be making Amity out to be the bad person, but by the time the library episode rolls around, it's clear that Amity isn't bad at all and those previous interactions are re-contextualised properly.
1:20 i dunno who said that but the only reason why that i can be sure about is cuz this show have some lgbtqia representation and ofcourse there are alot of country that are homophobic and ban these kinds of show and cuz of that it wasn't making disney alot of money and thats probably why

Actually the abomination track is pink for some reason, even though all but one abomination we see is purple. The only pink one is the teacher’s.

Amity is voiced by Mea Whitman, who voiced Katara in ATLA
Really? I never noticed that. There is a character later in the series who sounds WAY more like Azula, to the point where it's obvious right away.

It's spelled "Mae" Whitman. And yeah I am a little surprised Tinkerbell's voice actress is on here from the "Disney Fairies" franchise.

1:40 to be honest, we don’t know the full reason why it was cancelled. Disney said that it “didn’t fit the Disney brand” and refused to elaborate.
Typical Disney tbh, done the same with loads of shows
Actually, Disney's claim (whether B.S. oe not), was that the show was "serialized", or plot-driven, and because it skewed to older viewers.
