What I do is go to Michael’s usually around April, and I get the 12 month planners for 90% off. A buy a few, and I redate them with white out and number washi or stickers. That way, I do not have to makes any dividers. I also get the 18 month planners (that start in July) when they are on 90% off clearance, and I end up with a whole year of a current planner and no re-dating required. But for those who enjoy making their very own, then this is a fun way to do it.
@@letytoscano2773 I can’t remember. Those planners start in July , so I would start checking early November, or even the end of October because it’s almost time for the 12-month 2022 planners to come out. Most important, this is never an advertised or marked sale. I go in and I bring the planners to the price checker and lo and behold I find them 90% off. Since it is not a marked sale, I get as many as I want ( that’s why I have too many now) Good luck!
I think you are so cute and you are very talented and I give you props for having such a supportive husband. I do not know many guys that would go with their wives or girlfriends to pick out bags for planners. It really says alot about your marriage. I have never been married and have no babies and I have been on my own since I was 24 and I am 57 now. I love paper crafting and sewing and beading. I think for your Valentine bags if you cut them down and frame them in a simple white Dollar Tree frame they eoukd look cool hung up or sitting on your desk.
At the dollar tree i also got a travelers notebook obviously its not super high quality but i gotta say its better then the one i got at micheals it came with two elastics and the original way in the middle to shut it with that elastic where as the micheals one pnly had one elastic and a wierd way of the elastic for the wrap around one so overall i would say if you are going to get one that is a different brand then the original this dollar store one dollar one im most impressed with
MAN! I am impressed!!! You're so clear in your instructions and you gave so many options. Great Project. I can't wait to see What and How you add other categories. This is so great for my lesson planning. I would love to have all of my different life planners in one book. Thank you so much for sharing
I totally agree! I love that you can add to it as needed throughout the year! Also....could I do this, yes! Would I do this??? Not so sure!!!! I might try with your ideas about adding sections! Inspirational girl!!!
I love the diy aspect but after buying all those bags at a dollar and then several notebooks to get enough rings you are spending more than just using a michaels coupon to buy a Happy Planner. It is pretty though if you want a completely customized planner.
FYI. I did this before but felt I wanted the cover to be thicker so I took the laminated cover and ran it through again with another sheet. Worked great. Was hard to punch but no different than you doing front and back at the same time.
You did a magnificent planner. WOW! I would never have thought of gift bags for dividers. You are just a marvelous inspiration to make your own planner. Thank you so much
I would suggest that you use the other sides of the bags to make them reversible and use a cardstock in between to make it sturdier. Also hole punch everything before you laminate it and it will be much easier punch it after you laminate it. You Definitely get better at it the more you have done it.
I bought 30 weight paper, and I have a Big HP, which i love since I don't have to trim down the paper. I created pages, that work for me, on my excel software. Super easy. Then I use my punch and voila.....instant planner!!! I just reuse my old dividers.
I have used binders, too, for my planners. I find that I can have quite a few “categories” in a binder, compared to a “ring” planner since the planner rings don’t like to holder very many extra pages.
I am just getting into using planners and i picked up some clearance HP and was looking for how to repurpose and customize it, thank you so much for the ideas and inspiration ❤
Awesome idea. Enjoyed your video. You’re so right as far as not finding the perfect planner. Plus they are expensive and it’s never what you really need. Never thought of using laminated gift bags for covers. Thanks again
I love it. It's great you're sharing this cause it's a great alternative to HP. I love Dollar Tree gift bags I put them in picture frames for art and in binders for dividers and covers.
I watched this and ordered a laminator on Amazon so that I could make this. I do have 2 happy planners from the last 2 years, so I will try and incorporate some of the sheets.
Save yourself money ....... use gift paper, wall paper, maybe used greeting cards (with the backs cut off) and cut/piece them to size (you could piece them together in quilt designs, be creative and have fun doing it) and laminate (assuming you have the laminating supplies on hand) Print out your own calendar pages. Recycle, up-cycle, reuse. Heck, you could use fabric that you have on hand and laminate that to make the dividers.
Last year Dollar Tree had a Happy Planner mini size calendar. You could get several items for it including larger rings. They also have one other style of the mini notebooks.
Love, love, love this!! I like to make my own too. That way it's set up exactly like I like it. I bought a couple of different things in 2019 from Dollar General and I've been copying them and tweaking them to make my own. I actually think its so fun and I enjoy using it all year. Yours is looking great!
You could use some of the small notebook paper in your planner, also. They could be for special reminders, events, lists that could be removed to take with you to the store, etc. The paper already has the “holes” cut, so it would not be difficult to add the in (possibly a few for each month).
The open stock paper at crafts stores like Joanns are 12 inches by 12 inches. You can make a lot of pretty covers and dividers with the paper as well. The open stock paper also seems to go on sale a lot. I have see it at $0.25 each to 40% off.
I love the creative process and the joy of making something that will perfectly fit your needs but in a project like this one, I also consider the $$ and the effort that may need... it would make me think twice before doing it... tho I loved the end result but in my personal opinion I rather will try to work with I have, maybe doing some print as well...if I'm looking to save some $ and be mindful with the resources... also I had bought Classic H Planner for $15 or less on Sale as well
Aren’t their bags just gorgeous! I almost always see bags I fall in love with. I add it to my gift wrap container to be used as a gift bag or as a planner cover. I got that idea from Life at 50 and Beyond. It’s a wonderful way to make custom planner covers. Also when the cardstock goes on sale at Michael’s for $5 I’ll go grab one for future planner covers as well. I love The Bates House too! Their channels show so many DIY planning ideas for people on a budget. It’s so satisfying to create your own designs too. Now I’m subbed to you too as I’m planning to get back into my planning again. Your planner came out beautiful 😊👍
I absolutely LOVE this idea!! I started my HP journey a few years ago but haven't found one to fit all of my needs exactly. I'm a huge DIYer and love the satisfaction of doing this myself! Thank you so much for this video as well as the INSPIRATION!!!!
Genius! You have my subscription! I am soo tired of searching for Happy Planners that the designs are suited for the planner and the consumer’s attraction. I enjoy Frankenplanning my Happy Planners and I buy them when they are clearance, but the new cover designs are not attraction art work. This is genius and I will find dollar tree gift bags that attract my Spirit to put it in my planner.
Wow. This is great. I am planning on using Canva to design my own cover. They've already got a few designs ready to go. I guess PowerPoint would work as well
I love the idea of using the gift bags! I will look at them differently now! I found some very inexpensive, blank calendar pages a couple years ago at Family Dollar, 1 year’s worth of pages for $1. (A lot cheaper than like $15 for a ready-made set of refill calendar pages!) They were even cute! I was looking forward to stamping the months & days, but the pages are so thin, everything bleeds through except pens. At least I have a good variety of pen colors! I hope you don’t have the bleed-through issue!
I’m completely blown away by your creative ingenuity with this project! Your video was very interesting and inspiring to me. You made all your hard work look effortless, truly awesome! Now I want to go make my own planner and accessories lol 😊
I've been thinking of doing something like this but will probably use cardstock and print out something with my cricut to jazz it up. I think I could get a pad of cardstock that has coordinating pages cheaper than all those bags. I'll have to loom for those mini pads with the rings. Nice video.
DT sure does have alot of cute gift bags...I was looking at them for quick & easy mini junk journal covers. Your project turned out amazing...Happy Planning!! 😊💖📒
I Good Morning! 😁 I just saw your video. Thank you for sharing. I love the Dollar Tree monthly calendars. I use them for our monthly bills/due dates. This year I decided to use a monthly bill organizer with pockets for each month. Guess what? I still need to see a monthly calendar along with this organizer. 😂 I’ve noticed that my Dollar Tree store does not carry a lot of the items that I see in these videos. What an awesome find on the small generic Happy Planner! I don’t use the Happy Planner for myself but it is very popular. Have a nice day, 😁
You did a really nice job. I was wondering though if it's cost effective? The one good thing about doing it this way is that you can create your own design with all the bags you found. 😊
Very nice, there are some very cute bags out there. I found those same Happy Planner mini notebooks up here in Canada at our Dollar Tree stores. In fact, I not only found those two designs, I found two others as well, I bought one each of the four designs. 😁
Would doubling up inside the laminating pouch make the cover feel more sturdy? Like the cut out from the bag and a piece of scrapbook type paper on the back?
I really like the way this turned out. I especially like the way you used the bags to make the insert pages fit. I've been thinking of doing this for my 2022 planner because I had such a hard time finding a HP that suited me this year. Oan: You can get heavier laminating pouches so your covers will be sturdier.
Great ideas! I will try them as I just got my Happy Planner punch and rings. I do not have a cover yet but it’s working as I would like. I’m interested to know the cost breakdown

Interesting very interesting indeed Ms Dawn. Gonna have to definitely give your method I try. Thank you for the tip.
Thanks for the tip
There's something so satisfying about completing something that you've imagined, and being able to hold it in your hands. Thank you for sharing :)
Love the idea of using the back cover to extend the page. Functional and pretty.
I never thought of using party bags for planner covers, that hello gorgeous literally screams happy planner vibes.
I found that by printing my own pages and trimming them to size worked really well. I also use washi tape to reinforce the edge.
Ok, LOVE THIS! I'm a diehard Happy Planner but what a great way to get the cover and dividers of your choice! Thanks for thinking outside the box!

I never thought about using it for my lesson planner for homeschooling the kiddos. Thank you!
Love all the bags you found - what a great idea to use them to make your own covers and dividers for your planner!
I love the diy aspect but after buying all those bags at a dollar and then several notebooks to get enough rings you are spending more than just using a michaels coupon to buy a Happy Planner. It is pretty though if you want a completely customized planner.
Not to mention everything for lamination and hole punching.
You are extremely talented. I love doing crafting, but I don’t think I could’ve ever pulled that one off. You are very good.
FYI. I did this before but felt I wanted the cover to be thicker so I took the laminated cover and ran it through again with another sheet. Worked great. Was hard to punch but no different than you doing front and back at the same time.

This was great to see, I hope you have more of the insides that you made yourself.
You did a magnificent planner. WOW! I would never have thought of gift bags for dividers. You are just a marvelous inspiration to make your own planner. Thank you so much
For dashboards/covers you could also use the plastic cutting board sheets at dollar tree

I am a make it yourself type of gal and I absolutely looooveeee this idea.
JUST CAME ACROSS YOUR VLOG. LOVE THE DIY FOR THE PLANNER. GREAT IDEAS. HAVE A BLESSED WEEKEND.
I made my own planner this year as well. It was a fun process! I found a vintage binder at a thrift store and added my own pages.
That sounds so cool! I will have to keep an eye out for binders at the thrift store!
I have used binders, too, for my planners. I find that I can have quite a few “categories” in a binder, compared to a “ring” planner since the planner rings don’t like to holder very many extra pages.
Your planner turned out awesome I love how you made your page extenders. Thanks for sharing your process.
I am just getting into using planners and i picked up some clearance HP and was looking for how to repurpose and customize it, thank you so much for the ideas and inspiration ❤
Such a cool idea! You’ve got an Awesome hubby, he’s so helpful♥️
SO PRETTY! I think the gold rings would look even better. And you can use those little mini HP-like notebooks as filler paper!
Relationship goals!!! Significant other going with me to bujo shop!! So cute and supportive
Such an ambitious project. It’s a great idea which allows you to personalize your planner😀
What an ingenious idea! Loved your tutorial & how you found everything at Dollar Tree even the rings!
Wow!!! Love the idea of using gift bags and also for page extenders!!!
paper cutters are a great investment! that would help you cut down your covers and laminates to like 1/4 the time. love this video!
also, how did the page extenders hold up?
What a great idea to use gift bags for creating covers & dividers ❤
