Dude. That is a studio version. No disrespect to either Pendulum or Triple J, but it's a glorified music video, and *blatantly* not a live performance. The most obvious thing is how many times the audio and video are completely out of sync (e.g. what you can see the musicians playing vs. what you can hear have literally nothing in common). The second is the production quality, plus mixing & mastering. Even if this was a take directly off the sound board, this is way, way too clean. On the upside - a studio version exists, and it's just a matter of whether anyone (Triple J, most probably) releases it.
@@srsbsns7673 So Rob Swire is one of the most respected Producers / Sound Engineers in the industry and the live production quality is always this good because he doesn't tolerate less. He always has a backing track on his vocals to create the "full" sound and KJ Sawka, the drummer, has a hybrid drum kit that also triggers some ( not all ) of the electronic elements / drum parts that would require more than 2 hands. Perry ( guitar ) and Gaz ( Base ) are playing their parts live. There is 100% another guitar part or synth they are not playing. For a 1 off, they did a pretty damn good job as the band here but this is definitely a live recording that had the camera work edited in post.
@@pbatt705 I know perfectly well how respected Rob Swire is. They also do sound really good live in general because of how much care and attention to detail they put into their shows. This reminds me much more of typical UA-cam music, however, which is defined by pre-recording the audio and then miming to it live. I don't doubt that they're playing live in the room, but I really don't think that's what we're hearing. I will happily grant we **could** be hearing actual live instrument/mic feeds, but I am very doubtful (which is okay, the end result sounds absolutely brilliant regardless). I can keep going on with the things that stick out. The cymbals don't sound right based on the mic placements (I know the rest of the drum kit is electronic and triggering samples). There are whole sections (e.g. starting around 0:46) where there is cymbal work that KJ is clearly not playing live, but is mixed exactly like the rest of the drums rather than clearly being an additional backing track. There is heavier-than-live pitch correction on Rob's vocal track, and sounds exactly like how he handles vocals on a typical album track and not how he sings live (which is still effects-heavy with pitch correction, but he takes more liberties with notes). Rob's singing volume vs. mic distance is generally consistent but there are some hiccups that would be difficult to explain without a very high level of compression that would be hard to square with the level of audible dynamics. The guitar and bass parts have absolutely zero tempo hiccups, missed notes, or lack of synchronization with the backing tracks. As good as Perry and Gaz are, they're not that robotic. This isn't to knock Rob or Pendulum at all. They're one of my favorite bands of all time, and this is an incredibly well-done cover (and, to me, considerably better than the original). But it doesn't sound like them live. In the defense of the video, nothing ever says that it is live.
@@srsbsns7673let me explain. This is basically a live recoeded video that rob mixed and produced properly after it was recorded. Then it got posted after all the production work was done. Basically this is not mimed or played back
