I quite enjoyed The Will of the Many. Not a new favorite for me, but i am really looking forward to the second book. GR gives a date, but it's one of those where every time you check, it gives you a different date, so i wish GR would just not give one in that case
your description of the trial of the sun queen reminds me of the last innkeeper book (or which ever one had the marriage mart competition) from Ilona Andrews :)
Hi! I am publishing my first book by the end of the month. Would you like to review it? Is a YA Fantasy that takes place in alternate version of colonial Mexico.
My fav book of 2024 was North Is the Night by: Emily Rath. A few other favs that more people need to check out were The Gay Best Friend by: Nicolas DiDomizio, In Case of Heartbreak by: Courtney Kae, Sleep Tight, For Never and Always by: Helena Greer, The Lost story, Pen Pal by: JT Gessinger, and For The Love of Kane by: Ames Mills
I won't lie, I'm kind of bummed that you won't at least mention DNFs and make a Worst/Most Disappointed. I completely understand why, and people can't live on breathing air and money doesn't grow on trees + your career matters but I feel like negative reviews are important, especially in a context of quantity sometimes overtaking quality like this year in publishing, but also because someone's coal can be someone else's gem. Moreover, your negative/mid reviews are always intellectually honest, well-structured and clear. This said, once again, I get why you did this choice and respect it. Thank you for your great reviews :))
Thank you for this! I absolutely agree with you about negative reviews and I have tried to approach them in a balanced way over the years. I get that the change is disappointing, but yeah if I end up working in publishing I just won't be able to do negative reviews anymore. It's not a certainty though.
Favorite book of the year, hands down, is All About Love by bell hooks. I'm literally picking up a physical copy now. Lol
You convinced me about The Will of the Many. I want to read it this year.
Four favourites for the end of the year is so exciting!
It really was!

Yes! That is frustrating.
