If it is something besides God then it is an idol for any of those things when pursued will let you down, will fail you and are not the ultimate source. The rest of the commandments and the rest of the Word of God is trying to tell us to be obedient ONLY to God and nothing else. Not any ritual or tradition or holy land or our spouse or job or kids. But be obedient to him and in that obedience he will teach us how to live and love more deeply than ever before. This will fulfill the commandment to love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and allow you to love your neighbor as yourself. It will manifest the fruits of the spirit.
