Reloading weatherby single handedly breathing life into the 6.8 and 7wsm. That 6.8 it brutally under appreciated as is the 7wsm. Until these videos I had no idea how great those two are
Highly doubt that will happen. Nobody makes brass for this cartridge anymore and what’s already out there is slim to none. There’s also very minimal factory offerings.
I understand the gripe about the 7mm prc and stock ammo not holding up to box numbers but my bergara 7mm prc is shooting 2954with 175 Eldx with the federal premium out of a 22 inch barrel and is acceptable to me…I’m not a 7mm prc fan boy I just thought I’d share the info.
I’m also seeing those speeds with my bergara with a 22 inch barrel. I’ve shot the Hornady, nosler and federal but only federal gets to 2950 everything else in the 2850 range.
More people need to be saying this - Federal is not a small ammo or obscure ammo company and they run full-spec ammo - at least out of the 7mm PRC. It sucks that Hornady schlepped their velocities but handloaders and a quick switch of companies will get you the real deal.
I'm a 7mm wsm shooter. I've got a custom barrel and I'm pushing the 185 grain nosler rdf's at just over 3000fps running 70 grains of what you call retumbo. This load is a bit too spicy as I'm getting ejector marks in the cases but it is shooting 3 round groups of 16mm at 200 metres or well under half moa
I really like what you are doing. I shoot 270 WSM, 6.8 Western, 300 WSM, and 300 Win Mag. I want to buy and work up loads for 7mm WSM. Although the throat is not as long as the 6.8 Western, it has much potential. So, keep going with the 7mm WSM, and see how accurate and flat shoot you can make this round with ABLRs and other bonded or mono-metal bullets with its 9.5 or tighter twist. Pls keep us advised with more videos; love your channel's productions. With the fantastic engineering Win/Brng put into the 6.8 Western, if they may follow up with a 7.0 Western and a 7.62mm Western, look out. Win/Brng have excellent engineering, and they would compete very well with the PRC lineup from Hornady.
Cool cartridge for sure . Sheep guys seem to give it a cult like Following . I like the shorter wsm actions personally but a long action really isn’t very “long “
Federal eldx 7prc shoots close to 3000 fps and groups way better than any hornady stuff. If anyone is shooting factory ammo out of the 7prc take my word and get some federal eldx or accent. You will be impressed
Been using Hammer bullets for a couple years now and I’ve never used a crimp. You would probably get the best velocity from the 7 WSM if you could ever find any. Great video bro.
That sneaky little 6.8, still essentially annoyingly dominating the 7s. I’m still waiting for ammo manufacturers to commit before I will though. Hoping Barnes, Nosler, Federal…someone has to take the plunge on the 6.8 and factory ammo.
Hey RW, great vid. 7 WSM is such an underrated cartridge! At 1:45 ish you compared a 67gr H1000 load in the 7 PRC to the 7 WSM. The reason the 7 WSM is faster is because it has significantly more pressure due to less case capacity. Pressure = velocity. I'd highly recommend trying out Gordons Reloading Tool. It's free, has tons of powders, bullets and cartridges and when I measured out my .308 Wins exact details, it showed 2783fps and I got 2776fps in real life. It's a really fun tool to use to compare what cartridges can do and what should work best for them. Keep up the good content.
Thanks for your comment. I use GRT on a regular basis. Yep I'm aware that the smaller 7 WSM case is the reason it went faster with the same amount of powder. I truly think the 7mm PRC needs a 26 inch barrel to get it's true potential.
@@ReloadingWeatherby would you say you've had accurate results from GRT compared to real life results? Like I said I've had good luck so far. I absolutely agree on 26" for the 7 PRC, but honestly I think most magnums should be 26". I personally want a 28" or maybe 30" when I finally get to build a magnum rifle. .300 PRC is looking like the top candidate for me.
@marcmoore4115 Very accurate results. GRT has been so helpful for me with the Weatherby cartridges. The load data from books are always 200-300 FPS off. GRT is usually within 20-50 FPS. I should have been more clear about why the 7 WSM was faster. With the 7mm PRC having a slightly bigger case you can put more powder in it to get more velocity... as long as you don't have pressure. Which Sadly with two 7mm PRC rifles I tested... I would hit pressure at 67 gr of H1000. I would recommend you get a 300 PRC. It's a good modern cartridge. I just loaded up some ammo for a friend with a 300 PRC. When you have a minute go check out his video results. The channel is called The Big Timber Lodge
@@ReloadingWeatherby thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely go check it out! Hopefully I can get one soon. Surprising that the 7 PRC hit max pressure at 67 when the WSM was fine. Just shows how finicky cartridges and rifles can be.
7 SAUM was a darling F Class Cartridge prior to 7PRC introduction and media frenzy. Now it’s been relegated to the kid’s table. I recognize it has lower case capacity, but man am I getting great speed and accuracy, with lower recoil than WSM or PRC. LOVE to see a 7 PRC vs 7 SAUM video.
@@ReloadingWeatherby first group I shot with it, using Winchester’s 165ABLR factory offering, 4 rounds touching each other was a 3/4” group at 100 yards. I’ve only put 7 total rounds through this rifle, which includes the group I just spoke of. Recoil feels like a 30-06 to me, but to be fair my rifle does have a brake on it. My rifle is a standard Browning X-bolt hunter, nothing fancy. Hope to take it out to 300yds and beyond. So far really impressed with the 6.8W.
Just saw this on remarms website. Model 700 sps, 26" bbl, 7mm rem mag, 1-8 twist, full length action, long magazine box, Chambered to accept long bullets, this is a handloaders dream. Maybe Remington will follow with ammunition also.😊 I am definitely intrigued 🤔.
I have an In-Rut rifle, 24" 8 twist K&P 4 groove cut-rifled barrel with a Pure Precision Titanium Summit action. I just looked up my initial data on it, also using H1000 and 175 ELDX. Very similar numbers to yours. I think their is a slight advantage with your 7WSM shooting same bullet and powder because of the slower twist rate. I'm not an expert but everything I read and hear is the slower the twist, the faster the bullet, but I've never done any of my own testing to see what difference in velocities are common. That said, I will be testing several 270-7PRCs with all load data identical, once they are all completed, using 8, 8.5, 9, and 9.5 twist rates, all with 170 Berger EOLs and 165 ABLRs. Here's what I did so far in the above referenced 7PRC, COL 3.284. I matched the COL with the factory Federal ammo using the same bullet since it shot in the 0.2s in this rifle. I plan to seat it out to max COL and retest. No pressure signs yet: 66.0 grains - 2841 67.0 grains - 2844.4 67.5 grains - 2844.5 68.0 grains - 2898 68.5 grains - 2897.1 69.0 grains - 2942.6 I plan to keep going up on charges until I see pressure signs Slower than your 7WSM. But look at what could possibly be repeatable numbers between 66.0 and 67.5, and again from 68 to 68.5 grains of powder. Darn near zero ES/SD. I used new ADG brass and Federal 215 match primers. I'm wondering what speeds I would have seen if I had used Winchester large rifle magnum primers since they are hotter and always produce faster velocities in my experience. I already saw a 60-70fps increase with the WLR vs the Fed 210 match primers in my 308s with 130 TTSX over TAC
I think the real advantage is the 7mm WSM has a smaller case. So 67 gr of H1000 in a WSM case will get you more pressure and increase the velocity by a little bit
We can’t just brush past you just launched a 160 grain bullet at 3600 fps!!!! 4632 ft lbs at the muzzle and 33” drop at 500 yards with a 100 yard zero. That is freaking awesome!!! More on that!! EDIT: Moved to a 300 yard zero. 3.33” at highest point and only 21” drop at 500. 😮
@@ReloadingWeatherby definitely! If it will print that is insane performance. If you hold to the science that a bullet at 2600 fps and above provides consistent hydrostatic shock you are doing that at 325 yards with 2482 ft lbs!!
Not a hornady fanboy by any means lol but I ended up buying a cva lrh in 7prc and that gun shoots factory ammo .4-.2” groups yes we all know the velocity isn’t what it says but the groups it makes is crazy made up some handloads with some Berger 195 eols and it consistently shoots that .5 or better so far super impressed with the gun
Are your rifles full length bedded?? If not i would get a full length action bedding job. That will help with your stringing of shots. I see few of your shooting vids and the 7wsm consistently strings its shots. Id bet the stock forend its hitting the barrel under recoil. Or its bedding
7mm wsm, and 270 wsm were great cartages, but Hornady, Nosler, gun writers and a truck load of others had agendas to snuff out the Winchester short mag cartridges. can't find brass, I think norma is the only manufacture of wsm brass. few years down the road PRC cartridges may be history, just like the wsm cartridges did!
@@ottokittel709 the 300 likely was the best of the bunch and it caught on with long range benchrest, so theres brass being made for it. ADG and now lapua is suppose to start making 300. Norma brass is good tho, its worked well for me. You can make 270 wsm from those 300’s, but the 7 is dead. And ADG is supposed to make 6.8 and 270 wsm brass later this yr
7wsm was competing with the 7RemMag which was the King of 7mm at the time... And probably still is in terms of sales and ammo. I think that was what lead to it's demise.
The 7 WSM is accurate even with heavy for caliber bullets because it is a Savage 😃🇺🇸 Pretty cool velocity comparison, about 60 fps faster than the 7 PRC for some reason.
Thank you for a great video. Have you tried Ramshot Grand powder yet? Seeing folks getting great velocities and low SD’s with it. I just found some this weekend, will be ladder testing my 6.8 Western with 26” barrel with 175 STGKs and 165 ABLRs.
Those 338 barnes 160’s shot very well in two 338 win mags for me. 3200 fps. Good bullets. The 7 wsm is a no go until someone like Peterson or ADG makes brass. 7 saum or a 7/300 wsm is what id run for a short action gun
Is it the slower twist on the 7 wsm that gives it the extra speed? It should generate less friction in the barrel. But you would want optimal pressure behind the bullet from the right powder with optimal resistance in the barrel. The 7 wsm looks great. It shot thight and fast, not much more to ask of a cartridge. Good video as always 👍
🤔 Since The 6.8 Western (A True Short Action Cartridge) Is Able To Outperform The 7mm prc With Less Powder, Why Not Neck It Up To 7mm and 30 Caliber? 🥳
I sure like that 340 wby. I have a new Browning rifle. A Xbolt Hells Canyon Speed Long Range 280AI. It has a 1@8 twist 26-inch barrel. I wanted to shoot a heavier ELD and Berger bullets in 175 and 180 gr. That's why I went with the 1@8 twist.. I bought a new Leupold scope. A VX6 HD 4x24x52mm TMOA reticle. Both are still in the boxes. If u ever get a chance. Look at the 7mm STW. And do some more with the 280AI caliber.
Still a huge fan of the good old 7mm Rem Mag. Just watched a long video series by Little Crow Gunworks on UA-cam. The 7mm Rem Mag beat the .280 AI, and the 7PRC in a ladder test with multiple powders.
Good shooting brother. I like 165 ABLR in my 300 wsm for moose. I cant get closer than 600 yes unless they come to me. My closest shot was 480. Im on a knob looking across a swamp, its 40 ft higher im specifically dialed in for it by holding high for 36 inch drop, ABLR hits hard at that distance.300 win mag with 180 partition is on a tripod too, standing by if I call them closer. That 7mm WSM would do the job. In a Weatherby ? ? ? 👍 ✌
I love my 7prc, shoots better groupings than any gun I’ve shot. Velocity is the last thing I worry about. BG and grouping is all that matters. Some people just love to hate even when the data kills… Some people shooting Mossbergs and wonder why they suck. All in for me on the 7prc
@dog8176 Nah.. I knew why the Mossberg sucked. So why did you even buy a magnum (7mm PRC) if velocity was the last thing you cared about? It's okay... you're not the first 7mm PRC fan to tell me velocity means nothing to cope with the underperforming velocities and you won't be the last.
According to Berger’s stability calculator your bullet is marginally stable at a 1.23 SG. As velocity and RPM’s decrease with range, so will the bullet’s stability. Hornady advertises that bullet’s use for hunting up to 400 yards, so I think you’ll probably be just fine unless you start taking 500+ yard shots. As far as powder goes, have you considered Hornady 4831SC/SSC? I’ve found that it works well in my 338WM pushing 230 grain ELD-X bullets to 2810 FPS, which is Hornady PH advertised velocity.
@@ReloadingWeatherby I calculated it at 1000 above sea level, which is obviously wrong for Utah, but I erred on the side of caution thinking you may use it further south. I have absolutely nothing to go on other than somewhere in Utah. It’s likely much higher than that, so it will be affected to your benefit the higher the elevation. If you’re running at 1.50 then you’re slightly more stable than my initial calculations. If that’s true, then your bullet should be stable enough at just about any velocity over 2000. I’m sure we could narrow it down to the decimal point with more accurate data, but in the general sense I’m thinking it’ll be fine for average distances and speeds from the WSM. 2860 FPS for a 175 is nothing to sneeze at, and I’m guesstimating that your bullet won’t destabilize until much further down range. If I’m wrong, and I could very well be, a 160, 162, 165, or 168 may prove to be just as good for your needs. It’s all great content. Keep it coming! I enjoy seeing what works and what doesn’t. There’s no “good” or “bad” data. It’s just data.
@CastIeBravo Where I long distance shoot is at 6900 feet. And if I used this bullet for hunting I would be well above 9000 feet. Now I have no plans to hunt with the 175 gr ELD-X.. but it would be stable. Thanks for watching
Boy that is interesting, I had come to the conclusion that the hammer vs. fouling thing was a myth. I can use them interchangeably with hornady in 2 rifles. But Accubonds are certainly a harder engraving and I assume harder fouling bullet than what I'm using. Interesting results with the 100V, that's below SAUM performance with the 168. My 168 ABLR load is 2860-75 over 56g or so of h4831sc. Actually it might be 58, nobody use that data lol. Well, 24" barrel but I would absolutely assume the h100v beats h4831sc, especially in the summer.
@@ReloadingWeatherby the Hammer OGs, the forum guys, they generally support the possibility of it but I don’t know how many of them actually have alternative bullets to test the theory, tons of them just switched over entirely. Honestly I’d believe it the other way round sooner with a really “sticky” jacketed bonded bullet but I haven’t found that to be the case either 🤷♂️. As you say it’s worth a try for the accuracy you had been getting.
I don’t know if it means anything or not but I’ve seen a few 7 mm wsm videos lately and I’ve noticed it producing 3 shot groups with two touching and one just slightly away.
Ammo, quality of the barrel plays a big part and how well the shooter can shoot does too. My factory Browning A bolt with factory sporter barrel can shoot .4 moa 5 shot groups consistently with my handloads.
I was thinking about getting a 7mm prc, watching your reviews I got a 280 ai I stead in Weatherby 307. It is OK shooter but very picky. I wish I we t with the savage 110 hunter I stead. I get 3250 fps in 150 grain Barnes ttsx. 100 to 200 yards only 2 inch drop 300 4 to 5 inch drop.
@ryanpaasch7464 Sorry to hear about your rifle being picky. Keep working at it. I thought for a time that my 300 Weatherby was super picky. Nope... turns out I needed the right powder
@ReloadingWeatherby I do love the rifle I use imr 4350 57.70 grains. I do not know the jump? Love the 280 ai. I have a 270 short max in old Tika t3 lite they shoot the same speed in 150 grain. Tika more accurate
Try out the apex afterburner bullets. Badlands bulldozers are now off the market so that’s the closest thing to them. Super high bc monolithics are super interesting since the paradigm has always been they aren’t as aerodynamic.
Basically all the wsm cartidges was super nice, none however really caught on unfortunately. Not a hornady fanboy either but that is pretty slow for 175gr bullets in 7prc handloads....most guys are getting high 2900's and some over 3k fps in 24" barrels.... Seen a few guys with 26" barrels pushing 195gr berger around 2950fps.....thats kinda what sets the prc apart on otc rifles....
But how much powder are they using to get those velocities? I've noticed that when they tell me... it almost always is 2-4 gr over the book max. And if they aren't seeing pressure... sweet! My point is the handloaders have to push it to get advertised velocity
7PRC with 195 gr Berger running 2830 fps 4.0 S.D on accuracy node not my max velocity(2900 fps)with H1000 and 24" proof barrel and Peterson brass. Average groups around 2"@630 yds. Still prefer my 7 SAUM overall but potential is available with any cartridge just needs a little work to realize it.
@@ReloadingWeatherby 67.5 with minimal pressure signs. 65.5,66 and 66.5 grs were all flat in velocity and point of impact. Loads scattered above 66.5 so I dropped back to most accurate load with lowest S.D and highest velocity to test at 600 yds(my usual process)performance speaks more for cut rifling and twist rate in proof barrel than cartridge in my opinion. It's twisted for the heavies thus more efficient.
@@ReloadingWeatherby thank you sir. The 7PRCs underwhelming performance in factory ammo is disheartening. The rush to get the next shiny thing out has turned a lot of people off to the cartridge. It wasn't ready when it was released. The big red marketing machine is very effective.
if you shoot a all copper bullet you need to make sure your barrel is clean. You will find if you shoot normal ammo first and then shoot copper, you will find that the copper bullets will NOT GROUP very well at all. Once you clean your barrel down to bare metal, with no fowling In the lands/rifling, the copper bullets will be very accurate. .
I can't figure out why the 7mm SAUM is still going and the 7 WSM is dead. I've got a 7 WSM and it shoots lights out and out performs any 7 SAUM I've ever seen. I also had a 300 SAUM that would barely exceed 308 win velocities. I spent several $100 on powders, bullets and load testing on the 300 SAUM and was severely disappointed in its performance.
Focusing on speed alone is irrelevant, if you took 2 rifles. A 7prc and a 7wsm, brand new barrels at the same length with no rounds down rhe tube. Then kept them round for round the exact same until broken in (atleast 200rds)
🤷♂️ "If" The 6.8 Western Is An Improvement Upon The 270 WSM, Then It Only Stands To Reason That The Necked Up Version Of The 6.8 Western Would Be Better Than The 7mm WSM and 300 WSM (Using The Heaviest 7mm and 308 Diameter Bullets Available)? I Would Love To See That Comparison?!? 🤔
@@ronlowney4700 it may be more accurate than the 7 wsm. The long range benchrest guys consider the 7 to be abit too much case capacity but it suffers from lack of good brass. 7 saum was better and even the 284 winchester stuff seemed to do better. The 300 is phenomenal and holds one of the 1000 yrd record groups with berger 220’s.
I would love to send you my results with 195 Bergers and n570 out of my 7 prc. It would smoke any 6.8 western, 7 mag, or 7 prc results you have. With a charge weight under bergers max.
@@ReloadingWeatherby well I switched to a whole new load. Fed 215m, adg brass, n570, 195 Berger. Average was 2999.6. under book max for powder. 26 inch barrel. .5 inch group.
@@ReloadingWeatherby with the results I get from my 7 prc, I don’t see where your coming up with the idea that the 6.8 western or 7wsm beats it. 3000 fps with a 195 Berger is up with the 28 nosler. But if you don’t believe me I took pictures of everything to prove it.
@elijahross3792 Oh man... I just got a notification that you responded to me. Sorry... didn't mean to ignore you. That is a spicy load you have there. 6.8 Western with a 170 gr with N570 is just barely flatter shooting at 1000 yards. But wind drift goes to the 7mm PRC. As I've always said... if you get a magnum, get it in a 26 inch barrel. How much N570 are you using?
Higher velocity and same bullet weight as the 7prc wipe the 7prc back where it belongs at the bottom of the list because I'll say it again the calibers and casings already existed
I’m thinking the switching between monos and lead bullets is starting to get significantly overblown. I’ve had good results with monos with lead fouling in the barrel, but more importantly I’ve yet to see anyone really put the claim to a thorough test. It just seems to be another way for copper bullet makers to make excuses for why you may be seeing inaccuracy and it’s starting to get into the fud lore now that Ron Spomer keeps mentioning it every time he tests any ammo and Jim from Backfire had it happen once. I’m not saying it’s not a real thing for certain barrels or certain projectiles, but it feels like we’re all just blindly accepting this is the case without testing. Let an experienced F class of PRS guy work up and run a match load with monos and then demonstrate that the load falls apart up after the barrel has some gilding metal fouling in it.
With gilding metal fouling in the barrel after shooting lead bullets* Don’t want the pedants to come in and say “it’s not lead fouling, it’s from the gilding metal jacket.” And not add anything else of worth to the discussion.
@@Snailz5 i would agree. I have shot conventional cup and cores thru two of my 338 win mags and switched over to barnes ttsx. Worked loads with those and found something great. Did same thing through a 7mm-08 and copper shot great. Did same with my 458 win mag from 300-400 grain jacketed lead to 300 copper ttsx and it shoots lights out now. Maybe not enough rounds down to cause an issue and i generally clean every 20-30.
Just for kicks and a little spite for modern marketing, why not try to beat the 7 PRC at all its parameters? Speed, accuracy, etc? Show it to be, essentially, a marketing gimmick for people with more money than wisdom when the 7 wsm (grew up hearing about it, first time actually seeing one in action) appears to be what the 7 PRC was blown up to be.
@@ReloadingWeatherby Yes, I know that. My point is you're showing that there's nothing special about the 7mm Prc. It definitely doesn't deserve the hype that it got. Winchester had two very good 7mm cartridges that should have been a lot more popular. I know why the 284 Winchester didn't take off at the time it was introduced but the 7mm wsm is a little bit of a head scratcher.
Are we comparing hand loads to hand loads at peak performance ? My personal 7prc is faster and more accurate over 5 rounds than that wsm is over 3 rounds and at twice the distance. In a 24” barrel with the 175gr I’m easily getting mid 3000-3100 fps. I personally love the wsm cartridges and still have a 300 but if you’re going to run hand loads in one run them in both at peak.
@@ReloadingWeatherby but we are talking speed here aren’t we ? Accuracy is one thing but you are talking about the wsm being faster for the same amount of powder. So put more powder in the PRC it can take it , can the wsm? None of the speeds I’ve seen on your videos are close to what mine or my mates guns are doing with the same projectile while maintaining .75 or better for 5 rounds in hunting rigs. 70.5 gr of h1000 gives me around 3050fps but Sd and ES suck. Accuracy never over moa and hovers around .8-.9 . Now 68gr of 4831 gave me .5 at worst accuracy changing between primers and a max velocity of 3035fps with single digit SD. No pressure signs at all with either load using ADG brass. This is a rebarrel Tikka action not some rem clone custom also. Is the wsm more efficient ? Yep more than likely but is it faster ? Nope Accuracy well that’s dependent on many many factors as you know so can’t even be considered. I could possibly push my gun faster but then what’s the point , I’ve got no pressure and currently a load for two different projectiles that hammers and is .5 at worst for 5 rounds.
@JAWZOZ Bahaha... isn't it pathetic that you have to use ADG brass and go a good amount over book max just to get that coveted 3000 FPS in the 7mm PRC? If I didn't give a crap about my brass life or gun... imagine how fast I could get that little 7mm WSM going if I did 70.5 gr of H1000. Or if I went over 4 grains over max of H4831SC. Congrats though on the accuracy.
isn’t it pathetic that I have to use ADG brass 😂. Wow ok. Book max is safety net for the provider to save them from guys who can’t load and blow themselves up. I have no sticky bolt , primers look absolutely normal and I’m faster than your wsm. Maybe I should hamstring my 300 Norma so the win mag can compete. 🤣 Yep poor old me with my 7 prc that beats yours buy at least 100fps and shoots 5rounds into .5moa at worst with 4831. So I’m yet to hit max and you’re claiming you’re at the limit of 2217. So let’s see it let’s see you push this thing to the “max” and maintain accuracy. Ps don’t blow yourself up.
@JAWZOZ Don't mistake me for a 7mm WSM fanboy. It's a dead cartridge for a reason. Just find it amusing that it beat that Fierce in 7mm PRC. 175 gr at 3050 FPS while being over pressure is cute. My 300 Weatherby smokes your 7mm PRC with just as good accuracy or better with a 175 gr. I'm getting almost quarter MOA at 3360 FPS. And that's 2 gr under max. I could easily get 3450 FPS. I also shoot a 225 gr ELD-M at 3100 FPS. As I said... 7mm PRC is cute.
Every barrel is different... If we went on that premise all rifle comparisons are unfair. What I didn't show is that I shot 68 gr of H1000 in the 7mm PRC and got 2905 FPS. Here is what you actually learned from this video... the 7mm WSM actually does exist and it matches 7mm PRC
I don’t get why anyone cares what case people choose to seat a bullet into. They all push a bullet to useful velocities. One may be a bit faster, marketing hype may have been a bit off, but who cares?

Thanks. I'll be featuring the 7mm WSM more soon

Cool cartridge for sure . Sheep guys seem to give it a cult like
Following .
I'm going to ditch the crimp
Nice day at the range!! You will get the 340 figured. ❤❤
I'm not worried about the 340 Weatherby
That sneaky little 6.8, still essentially annoyingly dominating the 7s. I’m still waiting for ammo manufacturers to commit before I will though. Hoping Barnes, Nosler, Federal…someone has to take the plunge on the 6.8 and factory ammo.
It needs more support
My 6.8 is fairly accurate
6.8 is dead.

Try ramshot grand in the wsm , it’d probably help the 7 prc. Grand works great in both my 6.8 westerns

How do you like it?
@@ReloadingWeatherby first group I shot with it, using Winchester’s 165ABLR factory offering, 4 rounds touching each other was a 3/4” group at 100 yards. I’ve only put 7 total rounds through this rifle, which includes the group I just spoke of. Recoil feels like a 30-06 to me, but to be fair my rifle does have a brake on it.
No pressure signs yet:
66.0 grains - 2841
67.0 grains - 2844.4
67.5 grains - 2844.5
68.0 grains - 2898
68.5 grains - 2897.1
69.0 grains - 2942.6
I plan to keep going up on charges until I see pressure signs
Slower than your 7WSM.
@@ReloadingWeatherby makes sense. I have a lot of work to do yet and still have to test Retumbo, VVN565, 568, 570, reloder 25

EDIT: Moved to a 300 yard zero. 3.33” at highest point and only 21” drop at 500. 😮
You think I should develop a load with that bullet?

The 7 WSM is accurate even with heavy for caliber bullets because it is a Savage 😃🇺🇸 Pretty cool velocity comparison, about 60 fps faster than the 7 PRC for some reason.
Different day and different barrel, speed differences on a single shot comparison is insignificant.
Thank you for a great video. Have you tried Ramshot Grand powder yet? Seeing folks getting great velocities and low SD’s with it. I just found some this weekend, will be ladder testing my 6.8 Western with 26” barrel with 175 STGKs and 165 ABLRs.
I haven't tried it yet. I've heard good things about it.
Those 338 barnes 160’s shot very well in two 338 win mags for me. 3200 fps. Good bullets. The 7 wsm is a no go until someone like Peterson or ADG makes brass. 7 saum or a 7/300 wsm is what id run for a short action gun
Yeah... Winchester brass is garbage

@dog8176 Nah.. I knew why the Mossberg sucked. So why did you even buy a magnum (7mm PRC) if velocity was the last thing you cared about?
It's okay... you're not the first 7mm PRC fan to tell me velocity means nothing to cope with the underperforming velocities and you won't be the last.
You will find that the long bullets will actually settle down and group better at longer ranges in the 7 wsm

You didn't do my elevation correctly... My bullet is at 1.50... and that's at the lowest elevation I'll be shooting at. It's fully stable
Iv found Bergers stability calculator to be not much more than a suggestion.
7wsm is an awesome round

Maybe not enough rounds down to cause an issue and i generally clean every 20-30.
190 bergers in the 7 wsm
Maybe I'll try it
Everything must beat the 7 PRC. 😂
Yea 7mm 08 beats it according to him lol it's comical how much this channel hates 7prc
You do realize I have more positive videos on the 7mm PRC than "negative" right?
I love your channel and love the support for the 6.8Western
My 7mm wsm likes the IMR 7828ssc
I'm reluctant to use the last of my IMR 7828 SSC
7 wsm is better cartridge to bad they killed it off
Winchester killed it
Just for kicks and a little spite for modern marketing, why not try to beat the 7 PRC at all its parameters? Speed, accuracy, etc? Show it to be, essentially, a marketing gimmick for people with more money than wisdom when the 7 wsm (grew up hearing about it, first time actually seeing one in action) appears to be what the 7 PRC was blown up to be.
The best way to break 3000fps with a WSM and 175gr bullets is to do so with a 300WSM and get 3100fps.
With ease… and still be below max.
Just sayin’
Keep comparing the 7 wsm to the 7 Prc. Bury it for good. Down with the 7mm Prc! 😂
The 7mm WSM is the definition of dead... this isn't the cartridge to hurt the 7mm PRC
3 shots is not a group
Yes it is. Go watch my last video. Hornady just wants you to buy more ammo
I’m a bit over Hornadys bullshit
Buy whatever I can to dodge it
7mm wsm and 6.8 western in comparable weight and bc are virtually identical ballistically. I mean so close ur splitting hairs
What powder and how much are you using? I certainly haven't found the peak performance of the 7mm WSM. A .9 inch group is okay...
Nope
Accuracy well that’s dependent on many many factors as you know so can’t even be considered.
Yep poor old me with my 7 prc that beats yours buy at least 100fps and shoots 5rounds into .5moa at worst with 4831.
Reload both. Then compare. Compareing reloads to factory loads doesnt make any sense.
Sorry missed the part where you did reload both. My mistake
Uh.. they are both handloads
You must be right, you are obsessed at delegitimizing the 7mm PRC. Too much time on this topic, if I may be so bold as to say…
Why not compare it to the 7mm PRC?
@@ReloadingWeatherby there isn’t anything wrong with the comparison. I shouldn’t have said anything. ✌️
Cant make this stuff up.
You shot the 7WSM and 7PRC on different days and different barrels and got nearly the same speed. You make no valid points.
Those 7mm prc Fans Are Pretty Quiet These Days (After Eating Their Lunch)! 😂
I am scared to take mine out of the safe these days 😅
@upinair4990 Do You Own a 6.5 Creedmore Too? 😳
I don’t get why anyone cares what case people choose to seat a bullet into. They all push a bullet to useful velocities. One may be a bit faster, marketing hype may have been a bit off, but who cares?
@@ronlowney4700 nope, thinking about getting my son one though
@@no_regerts5176 Because Recoil and Efficiency Matters To Accuracy Results! 😗
Go hunting......
Planning on it... this fall
7wsm reloader 26 165ablr
That would be fast
I have some questions about 300wby rifles. How does one send you a email or get in contact ?
Send me a message on Instagram
Crimping 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You will find that the long bullets will actually settle down and group better at longer ranges in the 7 wsm
Maybe get some lighter grain Hammers and see what velocities you can get out the WSM
