Thanks..Delighted to hear her.. Heared her and Ms Savitadevi in Delhi in 1972 .Interesting story of her early life childhood .. Riyaz Perfection..Vah Vah
Vah...you have provided a superb portrait of late Siddheshwaridevi . I had some faint notion of her having learnt from Bade Ramdasji . But I did not know about her association with ustad Inayat khan and ustad Rajabali khan. What makes her ' gayaki " excellent is this grasp and control of " sur " .
Jnaab Sat Sree Akaal , meri haazri qbool frmayen. inka ek qissa kiai bzurg se suna thaa bahut pahley, jo kisi karan yahan likh nahie sakta.Haan phone pe suna sakta hoon. ( main inhein kreeb rozana hi sunta hoon khaas kar Poorvi Daadrey.)
Marvelous presentation!!! How fortunate that the Guru recognized the real talent in the young Siddheshwari Devi Ji, and gave her an opportunity to refine it. If it were not for him, her Mausi would have deprived us all of this extraordinarily fine singer. As the saying goes: "Both excellence and incompetence can't be hidden... not for long." I will have to replay it again to get names of all those mentors who further supported and contributed to her in developing and refining her talent. As much as I am gratified to learn about many honors bestowed upon the late Siddheshwari Devi Ji, this awareness has come with an undeniable tinge of sadness. For every artist like her who in their lifetime received due recognition, there are dozens others who left this world totally unappreciated. 😓 Talking about many subjects of your other presentations, you have mentioned how many of them remained underappreciated. They spent their final years in dire poverty and without getting due honors or even minimal sustenance. Through these videos, you are bringing them all to us to be able to pay homage to them. Perhaps in death they can get a tiny fraction of what was their due in their lifetime. 🙏
Thanks a lot Raji Mam! The sensitivity with which you listen to the life struggles of court singers and their hard practice of music encourages me to do more research. This also shows that you have an unfathomable love for India, the contribution of female singers to the cultural history of India and Indian classical music. You are constantly encouraging me to bring the life-struggle of such singers lost in the darkness of history in front of the world with full research. May God keep you healthy and also the unfathomable love in your heart for the history of Indian classical music.
@@SureeleDinonKiDastan Thank you, Sir. You are most gracious. The effort is all yours. I am one among many other listeners who have joined your caravan. Appreciation of music comes from its ear-pleasing quality. However, what touches one's heart strings is how soul-touching is the rendition. In case of a vocal piece, there is an immediate and direct connection between the artist and the audience. When a listener knows something about the artist, then this bond becomes even stronger. The more the audience feel love, respect, empathy and compassion for the artist, the greater is the joy as well as pathos. We can't just listen to something and fully enjoy it, without a connection with the singer. Sadly, it is a doubled-edged sword. 💔
Great to know in detail about these greats, who are no longer with us. However, their classical music pieces are wealth left for us to cherish and appreciate. Thanks for the great work that you doing.
I have a question: Beginning at about 9:30, the billboard announcing a program by KL Saigal, and featuring Siddheshwari Devi Ji, has, at the bottom, an announcement of (upcoming?) performance by "Rattan Bai Film Star." Is by any chance, that film star was Rattan Bai Shilotri (mother of actress, producer director Shobhana Samarth, and grandmother of actresses Nutan and Tanuja? I found a few of Rattan Bai's recordings on UA-cam but almost all of them leave out the last name. That Rattan Bai, in the 1930s/40s had acted in movies, sang her songs (as playback singing was not yet introduced) and also produced her recordings of Hindustani Classical music.
Ratan Bai Shilotri's life was very struggling and full of ups and downs. Since we are doing this series on court singers and Ratanbai Shilotri was not a singer, otherwise we would have done an episode on them too. Anyway, Ratan Bai was very brave woman and progressive to that time.
