Schnabel said he only performed music that was better than it could be rendered. Joyce makes every line seemingly better than it truly is. She extracts the highest expression from what ever music she sings. They say Schwarzkopf was a perfectionist . Well Joyce is too a perfectionist but so communicative and warm and alive even in bits of syllables. I wont compare but likevPrice and Sills she is unforgettable and when you hear her- you believe there is noone else alive that can make Music like this! Every syllable is with Joyce a chance to extract meaning snd express a living sentiment. Lucky are those who studied in classes with her snd saw this growth. I watch every masterclass she gives. If there was ever a voice to excite a generation as Callas did it is this tremendously alive woman. She mskes us all better musicians. I love her voice like no other living thing on this planet. Im glad to be alive while she toured. I csnt believe any other experience will be so rich.

Joyce DiDonato sounds magnificent in every way. I would like to add my compliments to the flutist and clarinetist for their beautiful playing as well.

She comes on stage, and on her way every musician of the orchestra is watching her. This is dramatic. She sang it so wonderfully sad.

She's right up there with Montserrat Caballe whom I think set the gold standard for this aria. Donato has the same wonderful technique and breath control.

    Dopo l'oscuro nembo
    Il Ciel sperai seren,
E al mio tesoro in sen
    Goder la calma.
    Ma così bella speme
    Va rapida a sparir!
    E al primo suo martir
    Ritorna l'alma!
Parte, e poi riede il sol
    Di luce a sfavillar...
E a me non sa tornar
    L'amato oggetto!

Although much influenced by the music of Gioachino Rossini, Adelson e Salvini exhibits some of the characteristic tuneful style and delicate vocal line that Bellini achieved in his mature works. Characteristically, Bellini was to re-use some of the music from this opera in later works, notably Nelly's act 1 Romanza "Dopo l'oscuro nembo" which became Giulietta's aria "O quante volte" in I Capuleti e i Montecchi.

The aria is VERY like Amina's aria from Sonnambula, so Bellini did what Rossini did - plagiarised his own compositions! I love Joyce's voice - none of that dreadful vibrato, so common in Mezzos, where one wonders what note they're actually supposed to be singing.

    • @angalafan
      @angalafan 4 роки тому +5

Don't speak about what you don't know please ! This aria is from the first opera by Bellini but has nothing to do with Amina's aria ( which one...by the way ) but has been rewritten for Giulietta in Capuleti e Montecchi. The fact that musicians used to re-employ a theme in their scores is not the only point of Rossini and Bellini but quasi all of them.

Joyce deploys vibrato as she sees fit. You can plagiarise your own compositions. You can or reuse ideas which mozart most composers do. Lots of vibrato I associate with 19th opera rather than a voice type.

  • @arthurfilemon6038

One of the most overrated singers of the century. I don't know what you people have been listening to honestly. Go listen to Scotto, 70 years old, singing this. Way healthier, true Bel Canto school. Even Elina Garança, which I also find to be a heavy marketing product like DiDonato, have more class in singing this.
Don't get me wrong, Joyce is energetic, seems like a good colleague, a very captivating teacher in all those masterclasses she gives.

I contradict. Joyce DiDonato's flawless technique is convincing, she has an amazing ambitus, her dynamic range is ravishing even in highest height when a pianopianissimo has to be sung. Her expression is genuine and touching. Experience her in a live concert and you will be convinced, too.
