    First, I publish LC books on Amazon and it's not as easy as you're making it sound. It takes a lot of hard work and long hours if you want to bring something of quality to the KDP LC book marketplace instead of the generic garbage that people pump out with Book Bolt. This work includes learning about basic elements of graphic design, so you can create book covers that stand out in the marketplace.
    Second, the first task in deciding what kind of book you want to publish is to do research to find out if your idea is viable. This includes doing a lot of keyword research. I believe this is the kind of thing you refer to as validating an idea before going ahead with creating a product. You even have a course on how to do this, but you don't appear to think it's really that important to do.
    Third, the royalty Amazon pays is not 60% of the difference between your list price and the printing cost. It's 60% of the list price minus the printing cost. 60% of the $7.85 remainder in your example is $4.71, not $3.85. You obviously didn't do the math before you made this video.
    Fourth, the money does not start instantly rolling in to the tune of thousands of dollars a month as soon as you start publishing books.
    I had a lot of respect for you until now, because I always thought you were the real deal. No more. You're just another UA-cam charlatan leading people down the garden path with promises of making easy money for doing little work, so you can make commission as an affiliate for a lousy product. Unsubbing from your channel and your mailing list.
    Maureen

      I agree to with everything you said especially what and how she is representing everything. She is distorting everything to just get people to follow her strategy and she makes out every single time they do. She suffers nothing at all. And has no obligation to anyone what so ever and not held accountable either. This reminds me so much of multi level marketing scheme AMWAY. I know everybody has heard of them. I have followed her a long time too like years. I did feel at some points she was full of shit but other times I was intrigued because of her income she makes. But now I even question that! I am done with you Gillian if that is your name! I am unsubscribing and jettisoning all I ever bought from you and ready about you!!! You can't do this to people it will not bode well for you. I completely agree. I publish LC and focus on mainly medium content books with lots of research before I even start writing. BookBolt is helpful in my opinion for making covers, research, and making puzzles. Helium 10 is too expensive for me and BookBolt’s research tools are much more affordable. I’m surprised that Gillian sounds so ignorant about using KDP since isn’t that how she published her organization book?

    it's a great idea which I started doing myself a year and a half ago. You have to enjoy creating books as I do. There is so much competition for these now though, I only manage to sell a few books per month with just over 100 books listed and running Amazon ads to them so I'm not making profit yet. It's certainly not easy money. Higher content books can make more money.

    Aside from the side-hustle aspect, this would be a great way to create unique gifts for family. Years ago I created a "book" of my mom's cookie recipes and just did it on card stock with a spiral comb binding. She loved it and she still uses it but it's getting rather worn now. But this would be even better. You could also do photo books yourself from trips or for birthdays/anniverseries. @@peach_cobbler whats medium content?

    • @peach_cobbler
      @peach_cobbler Рік тому +17

      @@helloworld441 Medium content are books that are more than plain lined, dot grid, graphing paper, sketch paper or otherwise blank notebooks and journals. It includes guided journals, log books, planners, workbooks, and pretty much any book with minimal text where the user fills out the bulk of the content themselves. It’s a term used by KDP authors, but not officially by Amazon. Think of it as authors say low content to refer to books where the customer is buying it mainly because of the cover image and medium content to refer to books where the customer might click because of the cover and title but buys mainly for the content. Like if you had a meeting notes journal with the same repeating template on each page, then a customer might click on your book because of the cover image and title keywords but they won’t buy if they don’t like what you describe about the book. For example, I have seen reviews saying that the book was supposed to have a template but was just plain lined paper with no template. Low content is very competitive and it can be hard to stand out in search results.
      Amazon defines low content as any book that has repetitive pages like notebooks and guided journals or where the user fills out the bulk of content. Puzzle books, coloring books, and activity books are not considered low content. For example a number tracing book is not considered low content because it’s more activity book.
      Low content books are not eligible for a free ISBN through Amazon or expanded distribution (ordering in bulk by bookstores, libraries, etc.). Low content also doesn’t include the look inside feature because there is no ISBN. You can use A Plus content to add images to your listing though.

    This vid was added 2 h ago but I think that content of it is already outdated and inaccurate for last weeks. Amazon makes a lot of cleaning on the platformand they try to discourage people to create more and more trashy low content. They are now into medium and high content. They block also a lot of accounts where they suppose customers can be perplexed or unhappy with the products.

    I have been making books for almost a year on KDP and have spent about a grand on it and sold $250 worth of books, and that added up to about $10 profit, so I'm down about $990. The market is completely saturated, I'm not giving up yet, however these tutorials make it sound much easier than it actually is to make money, and you have to pay for ads or you will sell nothing

    This approach could also apply to holiday ideas (gift information for family and friends for instance). Journals for the holiday for the recipient - the birthday record, thoughts on Mother's Day, observations on the Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. The objective being to see how the events produce new insights. The possibilities are endless.

I started doing this on Amazon earlier this year and even though I proofed the items created and put a lot of thought into them, they did not come out well and they certainly didn't sell much. The facts are that while it seems like you possibly could make good money doing this, the reality is that it's oversaturated and very few are actually making anything, let alone $1000+ a month on this venture.

    I have a couple of questions about BookBolt. First, are section dividers available? Like if I want the first 50 pages to be a calorie tracker and the next 50 an exercise tracker. Are there tabs or bookmarks or anything to keep the sections apart, for convenience?
    Second, is bound softcover the only option? Can you have hardcover? Can you have pages you can insert or remove? For instance, if you run out of pages in the exercise section but still have plenty of room in the calorie tracker. If that happens, you're either wasting paper or carrying two journals.

    There is a 5-Year Journal format with a page for each day of the year, including Leap Year February 29th. Each year is listed on it's day's page. Entries are limited to one sentence for each year. The pages are two-sided so there would be 183 pages. The first page or two could be a list of cues of what kind of observations could be made and famous quotes about the march of time. Whether KDP can print that many pages I do not know.

    Great video! Thorough and to the point at each stage. I hope to get started with this, but just have a few quick questions: 1 - Would you recommend making 10-20 low content books and pricing them all very low until they gain traction? Or just a few and once traction is gained create more with higher price points? 2- Is Amazon the recommended marketplace to do this or could I also publish low content to other large marketplaces? Thanks again for the great tutorial! Cheers!

    I've tried this it doesn't work! I created several of these on Amazon and they just get lost in the thousands of other people's content. I've shared, created ads, etc and not one single sale. Amazon literally puts them so far down the list no one can find them. Unless you have a different strategy to get sales, I'd love to hear about it!

    • @rogerrabbit80
      @rogerrabbit80 Рік тому +2

      There's a reason advertising agencies exist, and you just ran into it.
      Creating a product can be very easy, as you've already found. Selling that product can be very, very hard. Think about how much Ford or Starbucks or any other large company spends on advertising each year. It's in the billions! They spend that money because nobody will buy a product if they don't even know it exists.
      I suspect what you need to do is find a very specific niche. Something narrow enough to not have a ton of competition. Instead of doing a "Recipe Journal", to use her example, do a "Vegan Recipe Journal." Or a "Diabetic Recipe Journal." Or, maybe, a "Diabetic Vegan Recipe Journal." You cut the number of people who might buy it, but you also cut down on the competition. Standing out is a lot easier in a small group.
      The idea is, instead of swimming in an ocean of low content books, try to become a big fish in a much smaller pond.
