I cry my heart out everytime I watch the film and hear this song. Its one of my faves so I play it alot, its good to have a cry sometimes just to release all the build up inside of you.
This is a song you can vaguely make out from a distance, and it unsettles you. The bittersweet melody and haunting lyrics keep pulling you back like the black rabbit lurking around you. This was my very first impression of the song. You know something awful is going to happen, but you can't abandon the rabbits. That's how quickly their blood seeps into yours. This movie (the 1978 version) is truly a rite of passage for everybody, young and old alike. I'm so glad Blackavar didn't die in the book. His bloody sacrifice though, gave the movie that mental scar in your mind that stays with you always. Peace be with these rabbits.
Wow that just blew me away reading that, and I just realised, I'm crying, I'm a 51 yo, Man and I was five when the film came out, and this was my favourite song, listening to it now just took me flooding back, thanks for you're comment, it meant something to me.👌💯.
I'm 28 now and this movie will always hold a special place in my heart. This movie tought me the dangers and sympathy each animal has for each other some dislike rabbits some like rabbits...BUT GOD DAMN THIS MOVIE GAVE ME NIGHTMARES!!!
This is by far "personally spoken" one of the saddest songs ever created. Think the song and tunes speak for themselves, no further explanation needed. Just cry cry and cry. Thanks for all the tears!
You know, I understand Fiver and I’m like him because… I used to have cat who was *literally* like a big sister to me. I’ll never forget her. Just like Fiver will never forget Hazel. I love Watership Down and I thank it because Watership Down understands how I feel. It’s good to cry out my feelings once in awhile for my beloved ones that I love deeply. I understand the quote Fiver says: “No, Hazel’s not dead” Hazel’s in Fiver’s big heart just like my big sister cat is in mine! If you think about it, our thoughts, feelings and words predict our future. Heck! It happened to me. Watership Down is a piece of art!!! Some people are kind enough to the earth and some people don’t even care. But I do!! We NEED to protect the earth more!! #protecttheearth #rabbit #watershipdown #hazel #fiver #brighteyes
I almost never cry while watching a movie, but with this one it's impossible to keep it dry! Never had succes trying for more than 20 years! That's what they mean by a "tearjurker" Beatiful song!!!!
I remember thinking when I was 5 that this was Peter rabbit and I cried for 3 days after. The word watership down creates something very emotional in my mind, gosh darn this innocent looking cartoon film!
The series differed from the book a lot and added stuff from the second book too, the silver rabbit doing the magic trick is Silverweed who unike the books joins Hazel after some other events that were not in the book. it was magic that the mouse, Hanah, got from Hedge, the wizard. It is all very strange so I recommend watching the series if you want to have everything all cleared up.
I watched both the original movie, and this series, if I were to say which one was better I honestly couldn't because I liked them both, but I kinda wish I watched the series first because the movie was pretty terrifying as a kid, but all in all loved the movie and the series.
I'm 15 and I recently watched the original for the first time and... What is everyone talking about?! "Scariest kids film"? Really?! Wasn't scary at all! I love that movie and I just watched it 4 times in a row rn. (5 as of writing this) the movie is beautiful, amazing, and very sad to me. I can't wait to watch the mini series coming on Netflix soon 😊
I came across the book, and my mind just went "BRIGHT EEEYEESS...". I thought, wait was that the theme or something? I probably haven't heard this in a decade. What a strange moment.
This song is lovely but played only a small part in the film...There was recently a marvellous radio 4 play '1977' on the composer of the music for this film, Angela Morley...worth a listen.
To correct "Hyzenflay Rabbit" it is actually from the 1978 film "Watership Down" and not the series of 1999. Please get your facts right before you publish any thing!
@@TyrannoWright the British Film Flassification board (or whatever is is called) didn't see anything wrong with it... and passed the original as fine for children.
I'm 11 my mum recorded this on the tv whenever I was 8 (not the version On this song the movie) and I only watched half and then it got deleted do you think I should buy the film or not?
Jesus this should be illegal, i've not watched this since I was 9 years old, im 24 now, I've not cried like this ever, just brought some troubling times up with me and my mum that i regret.
your name just reminded me of a book, by Vicki Baum,Hotel Berlin. A sweedish guy in the story, had that name. This post has nothing relevant to do ,with anything related to present subject, but that is how my mind works, thank you for your patience.
if this doesnt make anyone cry then they either have balls made of fuckin titanium or they have no feelings at all... the most common song played at funerals
What.... what is this? I know these are from the series (I've never seen it), but I've read the book and saw the original film... I assume that bright silver rabbit doing the magic trick is El-ahrariah? And then, the Black Rabbit comes down to WD with a Tornado to take out General Woundwort? *blinks* This seems... so strange.
incredible song awesome film dont know about the series.. never seen it.. probably little watered down and softer than the pretty cruel movie.. which made the story only the more compeling btw..
I'd like the Dubliners preforming tis song because Sean Cannon's squeaky/wavy voice will suit this song. I'd like 2 hear Tommy Fleming preforming this song as well because of his tenor voice
I don't understand what's with all this "For kids" stuff... I am 21 only, I watched Watership Down (Original movie) when I was like 7 or 8 and never got any traumas. I really loved that movie. Same with all other series that have been edited "for kids" these days. Why they have to redo these movies and series, because they never gave any traumas anyway?
yeah in the film there is lots of blood, in here there isnt im not saying "VILUNCE GUD." its just like re-creating a 1 of a kind thing. it cant be done.
I don't remember this scene. My version of Watership Down had General Wormwood killed by the dog. They did a relay of the fastest rabbits who led the dog to the warren. One of the rabbits had to chew through the rope holding the dog. Is this a Mandela of mine?
So what's the deal with the rabbit conjuring a storm. I take it there was a series sometime after the film and some of the rabbits have some sort of special powers?

Im guessing you are talking about the original movie and not this cute mess
This isn't the movie, its the 1999 TV series. The movie has a superior version of Bright Eyes
I hate the movie.
I mean the original not this kawaii bullshit
dont comment then knob
This is by far "personally spoken" one of the saddest songs ever created. Think the song and tunes speak for themselves, no further explanation needed. Just cry cry and cry. Thanks for all the tears!
Always makes me ball like a baby. Watership Down is a beautiful film.
Hell , I was 2 when it came out. It still makes me misty. Too beautiful and sad.
even though it has SO MUCH BLOOD its still good to you X3

The animation is a masterpiece. Perhaps the artistic peak of cell animation. No computers, no CGI, just clever people and hard work.
Better than Disney trash

I know this is such a tear jerker, but it’s such a calming and nostalgic song. I could easily pass out from this lovely song.
This song really touched my heart when I was a kid
I am 37 and I'm not convinced I could watch this film with dry eyes now let alone when I was younger
OMG tears stream from my eyes listening to this such beautiful song
Wunderschönes Lied, toll gesungen❤❤❤
I love this tune! I remember the animated movie on HBO and snuggling with my boy. Ah, Easter's past, where are you?
I almost never cry while watching a movie, but with this one it's impossible to keep it dry! Never had succes trying for more than 20 years! That's what they mean by a "tearjurker" Beatiful song!!!!
This book, movie, story, and song haunted me since 7th grade when we had to study it.
Still makes me cry.
My dad and wife died. I am alone and love the song.

Best Childhood Show Ever!!! :) Here's to you Richard George Adams (9 May 1920 - 24 December 2016) #HappyFace
the black rabbit is officially my favorite tv show character of all time.
Great song so emotional brings tears to my eyes
Im 45 now and this move will always hold a special place in my hart because I watched it with my dad and his has been gone for 15 years now
I love this version, but a few years ago someone played the original version by Mike Batt. It's now one of my all time favourite songs.
Miss u dad x
As a child at 8 this such a mellow sad beautiful song .tears and sweet innocent memories of days gone ..wish I was still 8
Beautiful.
I cry everything I hear this. I was so traumatised after watching this as a youngster. So beautiful though. X
I love this series. Thank you
so many years,so many emotional miles, the loss and the time spent, freinds that are gone, but always with you

I'll put 5 years on that Taz. Only time I have cried in a cinema.
Saddest songs always the best kind of music
If you don't cry to this or end of the film then there is something wrong with you.
+Jeremy Spicer Watch the original 1970 one. Way better.
this isn't a film
Listen to the Mike Batt version. Something so meaningful about his version.
I so dearly would love to see this series!
I watched both the original movie, and this series, if I were to say which one was better I honestly couldn't because I liked them both, but I kinda wish I watched the series first because the movie was pretty terrifying as a kid, but all in all loved the movie and the series.
Must watch this movie again and again and gain ......

Why do I cry every time I hear this song

@TylerNessss IT is. The battle scene between Colonel didn't involved that rabbit god but it was a bloody fight with a dog.
Love this

To correct "Hyzenflay Rabbit" it is actually from the 1978 film "Watership Down" and not the series of 1999. Please get your facts right before you publish any thing!
But the series is actually based on the film, yet toned down to fit a younger audience.

That's why at 43 years of age I have never watched it. And I never will.
Watership Down is not from 1999, but from 1978 (www.imdb.com/title/tt0078480/)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watership_Down_(TV_series) There was indeed a series made in 1999, the film is far superior .
I remember watching as a child but never knew what was going on until much later
i cant stop crying its so sad :'(
It's spelled Hyzenthlay, but nice video :)
Well... I cried.

Dude, just stream it online.
You'll cry.
If I could find this on DVD or Blu-ray, I'd buy it.

Agnes Racz had rabbits like those, poor people who used to feed them :P they was really agressiv
everyone in this comment section saying "the original movie is better" meanwhile I'm the only one who disagrees.
the movie was much better
I like both the movie and TV series as well as the book, but having grown up with the TV series I'm probably one of only a few who agrees with you!
Also agree with you, I grew up with this series as a kid. Much, much better in my opinion.
fortune kinz I think the show is better.
to my best friend wen who died yesterday
I love ❤️ how campion is loyal and is caring in the show I ship 🚢 him with my oc snow foot and her brother is s moss

Summon the black rabbit of Inle? Cant be serious -.-
Based up on Richard Adams experience as a prisoner of war in Nazi Germany WW2. SO Watership down is based on a true story.
The graphics are dated by now, nit they are part of classic appeal of the story still popular now.
I'd like the Dubliners preforming tis song because Sean Cannon's squeaky/wavy voice will suit this song. I'd like 2 hear Tommy Fleming preforming this song as well because of his tenor voice
