Hey hey! I know it's been a minute...there's still some kinks to iron out with video/audio, but I haven't been set up to record for a while - so we'll get there. Thanks for all your patience and support as I find a new rhythm over the coming weeks.
Welcome back! It's October which means it's another season of
InfinitelyGalactic
I missed your reviews so much...Great for having you back!
Sir, I for one am glad you are back providing us with your great insight. Thank you for dropping in again.
missed you so much mate. Great to have you back none the less
Great to see you back, as always
Welcome back! Excited to see your take on what's new in the Linux world.
Missed your great insights! Welcome back, dude!
Ubuntu's buttery smooth animations = triple buffering Vsync patches developed by Canonical's Daniel Van Vugt. They don't get enough credit for this tbh.
Weren't they ported to standard GNOME a couple of versions ago?
@@DanielClear2 sadly not yet... it's taking its sweet time
Mate, could you explain to me what's this tripple buffering all about? And whether it affects KDE Plasma somehow?
@@2001DavidBowman Sup mate, sure, I could, but it's easier to read from the engineer who created the patches. Search Google for: "Why Ubuntu 22.04 is so fast (and how to make it faster)"
It's an article on Ubuntu discourse from Canonical's Daniel Van Vugt and it goes into detail on how triple buffering works on Ubuntu 👍🏻 Iirc KDE should already have triple buffering built in, but I'm not sure how well it holds up against what Canonical is doing with Gnome.
Fantastic to see you back - you are an excellent presenter, and have been missed ❤
I thought you were gone, glad to see a new video!
Glad to hear your thoughts on this release. Absolutely love your videos as always; I’ve been watching your content since the mid-2010s. I also just did a video covering Ubuntu 23.10.
This is actually the first Ubuntu release that I actually liked and kept on my laptop. Very nice and snappy.
Nice to see you back again, I enjoyed the video.
The best version of Ubuntu ever, I had problem with right to left fonts before but 23.10 solve all the problems for me!
Distro hopping can be good fun and a good way to learn, but it is nice when you find one that just works for you - I've been the same since i installed EndeavorOS about 2 yrs ago
For me that's KDE Neon.
ONG, you are back. Good to see you. Make amazing contents more and more.
You are the reason I got into Linux Blaine, glad to see you back!
Good to see you back dude! Always enjoyed your content.
As a total Linux newbie this is all very interesting. Being stuck with Win for more or less my entire life (with a short Mac Mini in there), this is like seeing color for the first time. It's a bit overwhelming with so many choices but watching these gives me a better idea what to narrow in on and which few I should focus on for now.
Glad to see you back!
I thought it would be infinitely galacking, but here you are again!
Welcome back!
Great video!
This looks really good! I can't wait until 24.04 LTS!
So glad to see you back.
Likewise we settled on Mint / Cinnamon some years back. But have a bare metal test bed system and will have a look myself. Many thanks!
I think Gnome is where it’s at now in terms of a consolidated desktop experience from most of the top OSs and you can pretty much pull together whatever you want within its customisation within minutes of an install
Well long time no see am glad too see you are back in good form you have been missed
Gnome is not my thing. I prefer the W10 look. Taskbar on the bottom with everything I use pinned on it. One click and it's up. Keyboard centered I'm not. I prefer the mouse. I know you can get that look on Ubuntu with Dash to panel extension, but after each new upgrade it's not always working anymore. Snaps and flatpaks I don't like. Tarballs for me.
I use Fedora, dash to panel and arc menu work fine
Top draw review as usual Infinitely Galactic thank you.
Welcome back!
I tend to see the non LTS Ubuntu releases as little more than betas for the next LTS. 24.04 should be interesting. Especially Kubuntu if it ships with Plasma 6.
Good to see you back dude.
Welcome back to you I would say
welcome back hope you are fine
Where have you been my man!
But, i get it....
Finaly new Video…
Welcome back
Ubuntu is back baby 🐧
i missed you so much man
Works perfectly fine on my acer laptop.
Snap software, for the most part, functions adequately; however, those requiring GPU support and specific system requirements ought to avoid using Snap due to potential performance limitations and compatibility issues.
I settled in Arch land (CachyOS) and I only use Ubuntu at work for a proprietary data recovery tool (honestly it's better than testdisk). After using hyprland, I can't go back to GNOME or KDE, both feel so clunky.
Where are yoou maaan , looong time 🎉🎉🎉 , hope everything is ok in your life .
Your follower Bahrain 👍
I run Ubuntu 22.04 LTS to Support the Adoption of Linux, and the more I've used it the more I really like it 😉
Was the tyling backported to Ubuntu 22.04?
How can i install Ros for thia 😢
what happened last 8 months
Ubuntu seems more of a matured experience. No complaints at all
Canonical is being stubborn towards their crappy snap crap as usual. Like they did with Unity and Mir.
I used it for 2 days and switched to fedora, the app store is way better on fedora. Ubuntu was laggy on my laptop.
Out of the box so to speak Ubuntu is ok. With gnome extensions it moves to a seriously good desktop.
For some reason Firefox snap is default but Thunderbird is a deb but the snap can be installed.
With or without gnome extension Ubuntu is top 3 best Linux distribution. Debian will always be number 1
Oh hey, he's back. Good to see you again!
Where the hell have you been?!
Working I guess
I
Does this current definition of modern involve lots of white space and Windows style skeuomorphic switches like phones have? I'm not quibbling with anything you said beyond using that poor word to describe Ubuntu's Gnome desktop. I think it has become devoid of any real meaning and earned itself a long rest. As for Gnome, I loved Gnome 2 and appreciate having Mate after all these years. Mint with Mate is my default recommendation to anyone in Windows hell. 😉
I install Ubuntu under Windows 10 HyperV using the straight forward Quick Create function. Guess what. I get no sound.
Still in 2024 Linux can't get it right.
I mean seriously guys. People just want to use their computer to watch UA-cam and play a few games.
If you can't even get that right with your operating system, why don't you give up already and stop trying. This sucks. The Gnome desktop swcks. It doesn't even have the equivalent of a Start menu or Apple Pull down menu. I'm left scratching my head, how do I get to the settings, how do I power down, how do I launch any application that's not pinned on the taskbar. Don't tell me Ubuntu is great. I've tried to use it for 10 years and still... it can't get the basics right. It can't do sound.
Welcome back! I always enjoy your videos. I hope we'll see you more.
Canonical has said goodbye to me with 23.10. Other than Firefox and Steam, it's markedly slower and clunkier across the board than 23.04. Snap is still loaded with poor to no performance apps. And there aren't very many meaningful snaps to choose from in the first place. It needs tons of attention. As a garden variety home user since the beginning, I'm very disappointed. If you're not having to deal with IOT, Professional, or Business requirements, it's pretty useless. With Debian Fedora and OpenSUSE being so aggressively working on improving their user experience, the difference is striking. I'm sad.
As long as Ubuntu requires snap, Ubuntu is dead. I moved to Arch (headless) and Debian (desktop). I was an all Ubuntu user until snap was required. Won’t go back😊 until this changes.
Snap packages get more hate than they deserve.
nah they should get more hate, until they open source the repository architecture.
I used to think that looking performance wise. Snap is literally obligatory in Ubuntu without any extra repos. If they are forced down our throats, at least let them be safe as they are promoted and forced by Canonical itself. Viruses are a no-no in such repo.
@@UrbanistBloomsagreed 💯 Not only that, snaps are overwhelmingly disliked by the community and Ubuntu just keeps doubling down on them. Not because they offer any benefit to the end user but because they want to IPO and having a closed source platform would look better for them.
Snaps have become incredibly fast
For normal, day to day uses they are fine.
This was clearly a video produced for the sake of producing a video, with nothing to say that hasn't already been said by other UA-camrs.
Redbull
whatever anyone says......we DONT need containerized packages!....how about the Linux community being sensible and getting rid of 80% of their useless distros and settle on 5 at the most!. Im quite frankly sick of the stupid idea of downloading and updating these MASSIVE files that are snaps and flatpaks.
Meh. Same as it's been since GNOME 3, it still looks like it was made for a phone/tablet and seems so clunky and inefficient for desktop use.
Oh, and welcome back. :)
It's made for a keyboard and touchpad - all their promotional videos show it being used that way, and 99.99% of their users use it that way. It's not clunky or inefficient, it's just different and better.
Good to see you back with another video.
Welcome back!
