Mills College 2017 Commencement - Betty Reid Soskin Honorary Degree

Mills President Elizabeth L. Hillman confers an honorary doctor of arts and letters degree upon National Parks Ranger Betty Reid Soskin. At 95, Soskin is the oldest park ranger in the National Parks system, working at the Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond. Over the course of her career, Soskin successfully has raised awareness about the segregation and discrimination faced by African American workers in California shipyards during WWII and is a tireless voice for social justice.
