It's interesting that almost everybody who watches Heartstopper seems to be waiting for something terrible to happen that will wreck the happy vibe. Unfortunately, we're probably more used to seeing gay storylines that feature some sort of menace or tragedy, so we're constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. Thankfully, this series shows a very positive view of self-discovery and young love (with only a gentle nod to the challenges of being openly gay in this society.) which is probably why it has brought so much joy to the people who've watched it. (I'm absolutely loving your reviews by the way.... You really get the characters. I'm so glad you don't hate on Imogen, like a lot of reviewers do. Remember how young they are all supposed to be. She's just trying to find her way like the rest of them.)
Thanks Robert!! Absolutely that's it. When I was growing up in the late 1800s.. seems like it was more movies than tv series that would dedicate a storyline to gay characters. If memory serves, on tv they were mostly friends of the main characters, and they had limited storylines of their own. And even in the movies, on the rare occasion that things worked out for the main characters, there was usually a catch. They had to keep it a secret, one of them DIED, sh*t like that. So long story short, yeah, that history is probably poisoning the well a little on my thought process. :)
We have seen many of the same types of storylines about people with disabilities as well. They're always either tragic, suffering or helpless - or they're brave, inspirational or incredibly "different". As if the disability is all there is to them. It's exhausting to watch!
@@sandramatras8345 Thanks for that perspective Sandra. You're absolutely right! Also, I think pretty much any character who isn't the standard male/white/cis/het/able-bodied etc. has to have a REASON to be on the screen. There's always someone asking "but why is THAT person in the show?... What are the writers trying to prove?". It's never long before you hear the phrase "They're being WOKE by including this person."

In the Harry scenes, just keep a close eye on some of the other guys :) THANK YOU for not griefing Imogen. So many reactors I've seen give her crap when, let's face it, she's a teenage girl with an unrequited crush. It happens lol. Finally, just prior to the first kiss, I love how Nick admits he doesn't know if he would go out with or kiss a guy, but he DOES know he would kiss Charlie.
Thank you, Azazel! I will. And yeah- I know there are a lot of moving parts at the moment on several fronts, but I like how the one true thing is that Nick likes Charlie. The rest can all be ironed out.
I loved your comment during episode 3 where you were surprised that someone didn't walk in and ruin their first kiss. Both Kit and Joe said this was the reason why they wanted to film this, as the old cliche was just too much. However Euros Lyn their director made sure the viewer had to wait a long time before they locked lips. He strung it out for as long as possible and he said he wanted the viewer to work for their scene they all wanted to happen, the kiss. And it did work. Brilliant scene.
The really gorgeous guy in this whole series is Charlie’s dad! Not only is he cute but he has such a beautiful heart to love his gay son and doesn’t want to see him get hurt. He knows it’s inevitable in all teenager’s life, gay or straight, or bi, trans, or A sexual and all of the other alphabets that go along with it. But he’s there with open arms for his children, which makes him absolutely the best character to me.
For real!!! This channel has taught me patience lol. Because yeah, that it TOTALLY how I watch things. The Crown has barely been out a week and I finished last Friday.

They had Olivia Coleman for TWO days of shooting. I am hoping for a Tori centric series (Tori is a main character in the book that Nick and Charlie appear as side characters).
This is one of the funniest reactions I've seen to these episodes!! "I knew I'd look hotter wet" "Did you see the grey sweatpants?" "I look hot wet too" "Doing pretty bad at the secret" the entire "this fucking guy is fucking twice my fucking size" thing. Loved this!
What I love about this show/novels is that they are firmly about not listening/conforming to stereotypes Ie Tao being straight, but not uber masculine, Nick and his sexuality ect. It's great to see
I love how Nick stood up to Harry and called him out for being homophobic. With everything he was going through emotionally, that was probably super hard. I'm glad nobody walked in on their first kiss, and they were able to just be in that moment. The music in the entire show is just amazing. The whole secret thing that you mentioned was exactly what I was thinking.

Thanks for your review. Loved it! Thank you!!!❤😊 BTW. This is the second time I hear about the reference of the grey sweat pants. What am I missing. Don't get it.
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that, Jaime. Ok yes, the grey sweatpants haha. I’ll put it this way: I once heard someone say, “Grey sweatpants are the push-up bra for men,” and I think that’s perfect. They accentuate your offerings. ;)
I'm really old but so in love with this show. The books' author helped with the script. The actors are all so great. Important artists, like Olivia Coleman and the actor who played Nick's dad, are top of the heap actors who did this just out of love. Taylor Swift was so touched by the scene with Tara and Darcy that she let them use one of her songs for free. This show is a blessing and a godsend to all those queer kids out there. Bless them all.
What an amazing comment!! :) Thank you so much for sharing your insights on this wonderful show. I've learned a lot about both the books and the series itself, but this is (I believe) the first I'm hearing about Taylor Swift! Makes me love her even more.
THANK YOU so much for (1) apparently figuring out how to display the unobscured episode footage and still not get copyright-flagged (too many reactors bury that, and their video ends up badly disjointed); and (2) interspersing your comments instead of talking over critical dialog -- of which there's a lot! (ditto) You're gonna love the rest.
One of the things I found out was just how soaking wet Kit got for the scene at the front door. He had to wear a wet suit under his clothes to try and keep him warm, as they pumped gallons of water over him, along with Joe getting soaked for the kiss scene. Kit said he was surprised he didn't catch a cold.
I'm gonna stop calling this show "adorable" in every comment (but I'm gonna keep thinking it). I appreciate your understanding attitude toward the characters. Some reactors have actually hated on Imogen and even Tao, which is unfortunate. Has anyone pointed out yet the symbolic Nick-Charlie color scheme, the yellow & blue? The school walls are those colors, the umbrella Charlie gives Nick -- they appear all over.
Hey there!! Yeah, someone mentioned it, and now I'm looking for it like the hidden ghosts in Hill House lol. I love this show so much- I'm going to miss ALL the characters. Even stupid Ben.
@@DavidvsFilm I was about to come back with the colors hahaha it was me who mentioned it on your last reaction! Once you see the blue and yellow it's just all over, even at the party when Nick is speaking with Harry the mood is all blue.

I'm going to wait until you've watched this trilogy to be completed before I comment. I will say, Duel of the Fates by John Williams is the greatest piece of cinematic music.
I can't really get over how it REALLY seems like Harry is purposefully trying to drop his voice real deep. Like is that the characters choice? An acting choice? I'm just sitting here like just speak buddy!
@@sanneannelies843 I didn't know that, thanks! I had the same issue with the actor from the 'after' movies. In that case I DID know that's his real voice but I was always like this sounds like a fake accent even though it wasn't. Lol
I’m the same. Harry’s voice sounds fake to me, even though I’ve heard that it’s his real voice. I find it bothersome. I know Harry is in S2 but hoping his voice doesn’t bother me by then.
@@sarah.the.clumsy I mean, it might not sound like his real accent because technically the accent that he uses in the After movies isn't his natural accent. And you can absolutely tell...He's British but he doesn't speak the way that he speaks in the movies. He has a roadman accent naturally. That he speaks in in interviews. So that's why he's accent sounds really weird and put on in the After movies. Because it is.
I think episodes 3 and 4 might be my most favorite and least favorite episodes of the entire series respectively. In episode 3, it's almost like that episode is pure distilled queer joy, and episode 4 starts out happy, and it includes one of my most favorite lines in the entire series, "I'm having a proper full on gay crisis!", but then at the end we get Harry pressuring Imogen into asking Nick out and Nick feeling pressured by Harry and the other boys to say yes. While Tao and Elle listen from above. I don't blame Imogen, though. She's just a girl who has a crush on the cute, sweet boy who has been her friend for years. If I was 16 years old, I would also have a crush on him. I also hate how Charlie feels like he has to lie to everyone about Nick. And we see Nick almost apologize for that in the infirmary, saying, "I'm the one who should be saying sorry," (or something like that) when Isaac comes in the door, but I think we've got two different things happening here. First, Nick is terrified of people realizing he's not straight before he even fully understands himself, and then Charlie has his past experiences with Ben making him feel probably a bit more insecure and perhaps making the need for secrecy feel more oppressive, I think. So it will be interesting to see where we go from here.
@@DavidvsFilm Actually could I please make a request? For whatever reason, you don't have a Videos tab on your page (at least not on the app), so the only way to get to your Heartstopper reactions is via the playlist, but the playlist has the videos in reverse order, so it plays the second video before the first video. Could you possibly re-order the playlist so that the first video plays first and the second video plays second, etc.? Either that or make your Videos tab visible so we can watch individual videos outside of the playlist format? Thank you.
I really like that this show is sort of "normal", if you will. Yes, it's about LGBTQ teenagers, but they sort of just go through stuff (relationship dramas, heartbreak and friendship dynamics changing) that EVERYONE went through as teenagers. They are regular teenagers who just happen to be queer. They aren't portrayed as "weird" or "different" because of that. I think that's one of the reasons so many people can relate to the show, even if they aren't queer. I really wish there were shows like that featuring people with disabilities. I am so sick of seeing us portrayed as tragic, inspirational or brave all the time. We're just normal people who happen to be disabled. We're people, not diagnoses.
Another good one. I like that they explore more of Tao's perspective on the show, puts the main romance in other perspective, after all Nick is "rugby lad" who is friends with other "rugby lads", and we all know how some people(bro guys) can start acting when they're too comfortable around each other, even if it's just a facade. Tao is just being protective, he's a good friend. I do agree that his thing with Elle was a bit of a surprise as Elle's story is more focused on her entry into a new school, but I like to think that since they have been good friends for a while, the distance of not seeing him everyday now maybe put him on a different light on Elle's perespective, or that she always liked him but only now she's recognizing it due to teen hormones and finding her ways into girlhood (I also like how Tao's mom tells him to keep the door open, how most moms would do if any girl went over their house to hang out with their son, soooo cuuuteee, the adults in the show are so supportive makes me want to cry)
i kind of get why you din't see the tao and elle thing in the show but it's very heavily hinted in the graphic novels so i think you're gonna just see more of that in other seasons since this season is more of an introduction to the whole heartstopper universe. also i hope we can tone down the whole grey sweatpants thing a bit. the characters are minors and kit was still a minor while shooting this season. i hope this doesn't come out as rude or anything.

BTW.
If you were to rewatch the first episodes, you would likely catch the hints you missed about Tao having a crush on Elle. ;)
I’m getting Netflix this week so hopefully I can catch up to you. Lol.
Great reaction again😃👏
Aww thank you, Sanne!! Great shows make it easier :)
Damn, I ltrly just finished the first video and now this! Have never been so early
Love the show
Haha thanks!! About to watch the next episode today. They’re going to fast!! Ima need the second season to release ASAP lol
@@DavidvsFilm honestly, same
Like, I know how the plot will develop and stuff but I'm so curious about how they're gonna deal with it in the series
@@Kinkyno0b Yes!!! Thank you Tommy! Sorry I didn’t remember you by name right off, but that definitely stuck with me when you said it. :)
the fact you're sipping vodka/redbull 😂❤
your reactions to Heartstopper are so wholesome..🥹 I hope the next video comes sooonnn
the show just absolutely fills your heart.. 💕
Btw how about reacting to Young Royals after Heartstopper is finished in case you haven't seen it already? It's another top tier show as well, absolute masterpiece
Now listen- I know how to drink responsibly. There's very, very little Red Bull..... ;)
You guys have convinced me on Young Royals- it is next after Heartstopper.
@@DavidvsFilm yeahh of course but be honest.. we love us some 50/50 drinks ;)
and HELL YES😌👀 believe us.. have faith in us.. this show is just as good 🌝
After this amazing show i feel a little ”Vikings ” would be nice ! And no, i’m not giving up on that 😂😂😂! I’m old and i have patience enough for an IKEA bookshell ( that was a lie)! And Hey my dear! Welcome back to the platform ❤️
hahahaha patience enough for an IKEA bookshelf!!! hilarious. Aww Vikings.. I have not forgotten. :) That's a lot of show though! 9 seasons!
i love your reaction is episode was so magic and the grils on the dance floor and when they kiss u can see nick smaile realy happy and every time he see charile u can see the glow in his eyes and he so happy to see him and when charile ask him if he would kiss him and he said yes when they kiss its was so passion and speical and also there friendship is so strong and there connection and there chemistry is so strong nothing can break them apart.
Just gonna out this out there- if you are interested in good lgbtq+ content and you’re ok with subtitles, check out Skam and Young Royals. They are two of the best written shows out there.
Also, the leads on Young Royals have the best onscreen chemistry I’ve seen in a long time.
YES!!! Skam season 3 and Young Royals!! ❤❤
@@lauraibarra901 I always recommend all four seasons of Skam. They’re all really good and well written, plus it helps to see the development of Isak
@@jenniferbrinks6552 all 3 seasons were great but I will say season 3 has a special place in my heart. Isak and Even are my favorite couple. I wanted more Isak in season 2!
Thanks guys!! I have gotten a lot of YR recommendations, but what's Skam??
You're officially the first person I've seen react to this show that didn't ship Tao and Elle 🙃
Great reaction, and I noticed all the grey sweatpants
Can't believe you cut the "We thank you for your service" line... tsk tsk tsk
Aww! Talking about Tara replying to the ally line from Imogen? Yeah, it’s tough making decisions on what to cut and what to leave in. UA-cam is getting pretty strict. I did love that though!!
That is his real voice. You can look up interviews of Cormac and you will hear it. He has a very thick accent.
When I try to do a low voice I sound like I'm having a stroke.
Awesome awesome comment. And so true.
Thank you.
I saw a lil doggie!
She makes little cameos here and there... lol
Yes, Tao's mom saying that made me so happy!
i kind of get why you din't see the tao and elle thing in the show but it's very heavily hinted in the graphic novels so i think you're gonna just see more of that in other seasons since this season is more of an introduction to the whole heartstopper universe. also i hope we can tone down the whole grey sweatpants thing a bit. the characters are minors and kit was still a minor while shooting this season. i hope this doesn't come out as rude or anything.
I like you. In a platonic way as in I think your cool, I am a lesbian and have a girlfriend of 3 years.
Subscribing.
Thank you so much!! I'll take the "likes" any way they come :) You are awesome.
this show is like medicine for Queer people
True, but I still prefer my main medicine: alcohol.
What is it about grey sweatpants on guys? Is it a thing?
Haha, yes. They tend to “showcase” things due to the material and color. So I’ve been told. I wouldn’t know such things. I’m a gentleman…..
They’re sexy. Kind of like a white t shirt on women
Hahaha thanks for asking! I was wondering the same thing! 😂
