Hey Monica! I lived in Seattle alone for just barely over $1000 a month last year. Studio 7 in University District has units as low as $1045 (including all utilities which you can use unlimited and never have your monthly cost go up, washer and dryer in unit as well) at 314sq ft. I did this when I first moved to Seattle because I didn't want roommates but my budget was tight! Loving your channel by the way!
I should have done what you did. We currently rent outside of Seattle, north of Bellevue, and for a 725 sq ft 1 bedroom place...we pay $1900 for everything. We have a view of all the mountains and I am close to work, but we could be saving so much. Ughhhhh...why does it have to be so pricey here.
@@travelclimb To be fair, you are getting much more space for your money than I was! My place was only 314 square feet and while I was able to make it cozy by adding shelving and getting rid of my giant bed for a futon, it was still not somewhere I'd wanna be forever. Your place sounds great so don't feel down about it! My unit had great window light but I didn't have a view of any mountains like you do!
There's definitely hundreds of towns on the west coast that are just as affordable as the south (I know from experience), but the job market and atmosphere draws many to the city. It's definitely a choice, and I know now why (I love it out here)
fr I live in a $1200/700 sq. Ft. studio in seattle n that is considered extremely cheap and unheard of. $1500/300 sq. Ft. Is standard. Like that's a $1500 bedroom fam.
Personally I’d rather deal with a bit of traffic and pay more/have more personal space than pay $1,000 a month to live with a bunch of roommates. But to each their own I guess
Just to point out: I think the first girl might be paying the Seattle MFTE (limited income housing program) apartment price because I know one room in the 4 bedroom apartment definitely go for over $1000 a month regular price!
seattle got so insane so quick - moved there for college in 2011 where I lived in various three bedroom hosues in capital hill for ~500 dollars a month but that price rose each year. By 2015 it was insane if you could find anything under $1000 for a tiny space.
You should do a video talking about the MFTE housing program that Seattle has! I live in Ballard and my rent is almost $1,000 less than what my apartment should be worth because of this program. I pay $1434, but my apartment usually rents for over $2,200. It's an open one bedroom and it's 644 square feet, plus there are lots of great amenities. In the MFTE the income limit is $57,000 to qualify to live in an MFTE unit. This is a great way for people who make a little less money to be able to live in Seattle!
I love the last place. Embracing the old aesthetic rather than resenting not having new and modern. So cozy! Also basement apartments are so decent this part of the world, windows are so big
Getting ready to move from Texas to the Redwood Oakwood apartment building in Seattle. $1,050 a month for a micro studio. Your videos have been great for reference points on different options of living in the area.
I've been watching all these videos trying to wrap my head around people's expectations of the living situation around the world. I live in a two bedroom apartment with a small kitchen, tiny bathroom and a separate tiny toilet. I share a room with a 19 year old girl whom I met on Facebook and saw for the first time two days later, when we met with the landlord to sign the lease. The other room is taken by the sweetest 20 year old girl. We all share one closet, I keep my clothes on two shelves and they each have only one cause they say they don't need more space. Me and my roommate pay the equivalent of around $120 per month (it's 450 in the Polish currency), and we have two single beds, two small desks, a coffee table and some pretty limited storage space. It's not ideal, but it works for us and many other people at unis. Dorms are even cheaper, and it blows my mind, when I put that into perspective, that getting a dorm at my uni costs under $100 😮
I went on roommiematch.com and that's how I found the roommate I'm currently with. There's people on there that are either looking to find a place with someone or they have extra space that they're trying to rent out so that might be a good site to try
I've found that if you are okay with not having a bathtub you can find a studio with a shower only for $1000 or less in many different Seattle neighborhoods
I remember asking you where to live if I moved to the Seattle area, and you responded!! It never happened but it’s so coool to see what I would’ve been looking at if I were to of! Loving this series, I’m 24 and I’ve loved how you’ve grown up and evolved you content to match😇
make a video about the weather of seattle. Everybody talks about how seattle is the rainiest place in the US, also some say that washington is the least sunny place in the country
Cole Harvey it’s definitely grey, cold and rainy like 9 months out of the year. I was born and raised in the PNW so I’m used to it but I know a lot of people that struggle when they move up here.
I was not bothered by the winters because I'm used to the cold and lack of sunlight from living in NYC. I much prefer the PNW because there's plenty of space and nature access unlike NY! Anyone that's used to colder winters should not have an issue living in Seattle. Beware though if you are moving from Cali, Florida, any warm and sunny climate
I love that last place- especially the way the girl decorated her bedroom. It looks warm and cozy and reminds me of being at my grandparents.' Doesn't even feel like an apartment in the city
I live in a studio in northern Beacon Hill Seattle that is 550 square feet and has a private entrance, laundry, dish washer, heated floors, a cool garage door, full kitchen etc. it’s a really nice apartment, it’s $1390. I really love it. Some of these people definitely got a heck of a deal but require to have one or two others with them. For mine for size, location and living alone, my rent is on the low end. I definitely could find cheaper but another thing I love about my apartment is that a designer made it specifically and it’s really well made and my landlords are so awesome. Another thing to consider is that being inner city often times = paying for parking which often times can be closer to $200 a month.
At some point u get priced out of the area for a cheaper area to move to any. i can only guess u pay more for what u get for living in the area. like cali, u pay for the weather they say but still cost of living goes up and cause u to move out of area or out of state any.
I can't believe how much the rent is now days for rentals in Seattle. I remember my ant complaining about paying $650.00 a month for a three bedroom house in Seattle. But that was years ago.
I've been watching your videos for MONTHS and just realized I wasn't subscribed?! Well, I am now! I'm especially enjoying your travel tip videos (budget traveling, finding cheap hotels, etc). Love from Katy, Texas :)
Omg that first unit we saw was literally right next to my apartment! I pay 1200 for a really cute, old world charm studio, you could see the brick building my building is kind of connected to out the window in the clip where she's in the car at the beginning! I wish I could show you my unit one of these times.. or could have at least run into you! been watching since before you moved to LA:)
Oh the south has me SO spoiled. I live in a two story 2 bedroom 1.5 bath with a kitchen, living room, and laundry room for less than $450 a month 🤦🏻♀️ And I have my own room. But i do LOVE this series!!
I know a lot of people just rent out rooms in a house. I did that for many years and have very reasonable rents. I rent a 1bd now for 1330 a month. With wsg & parking.
I thought the $680 shared living option was SUPER nice... adorable and not a terrible cost for what you get. I lived in a similar setup in Bloomington, Indiana. So nice!
I live in the LA district not La it self but one of the many cities that fall under it. Here it's almost always cheaper to rent out a house/condo/townhouse then it is for apartments. 3 bedroom apartment 2500+ vs 4 bedroom house 2300-2500 on average
I`m in OC Southern California. I pay 1466.00 for a typical garden apartment. This apartment was 600.00 when I moved in back in 1992 when I came back from a stint in the Marines. Lots of New apartments all around me, but they start at 2000 for the one bedrooms.
Just realized how cheap is Montreal. So glad I'm Canadian! 2 bedrooms 1 bath and I share it with my boyfriend for 500$ each, everything included. Crazy how it changes from city to city!
Grew up in wedgewood near the u district and went to school on Capitol Hill. Very interesting to see the prices now opposed to the late 80s lol. Thanks for sharing!
bruh i lived in the older dorms for a year at UW. almost $1000/month is that it added for residence and i shared one tiny a$$ room with 2 other ppl. it was horrible.
Hey Monica, could you share your thoughts about the virus in Seattle? Would like to get the perspective of someone that actually lives there. I will be going in April and wanted to know if it was serious or not - better safe than sorry.
I live down in Florida where it is hot I’m still young but when I’m older I want to move up north to New York Seattle or Alaska. Thanks for the great tips
I've been enjoying your videos for the past year while preparing for my move back to Seattle since my childhood. I landed me a bomb ass 516 sqft studio at the wave overlooking the stadium. 7th floor for $1,600m 2 year lease. After 43 years I'm finally back! So tired of Las Vegas 🤢
First, just wanted to say I'm a new subscriber. I'd love to buy a house, but I'm a long way away from doing that. I know this isn't the house buying video, but I just watched that one and that's when I became a subscriber. Second, you're really pretty and have the most amazing blue eyes. Now, let's talk about living in Seattle. I guess my biggest question is why? The weather sucks and from what I can see on your videos so does the housing market. The fact that you paid $700,000 for a townhouse is insane. But I'm always looking to improve myself and learn new things and your video about house buying was really helpful. Great information.
Hey monica, i have a question, it is safe to go to Seattle now in march I have concern about just because the coronavirus. I already have a trip booked, but im worry.
You will be fine. It's not going to grow that quickly in the time frame. As well, only 2% of people die from it and 90% of those are elderly and infants. Wash your hands obviously and wear a mask on the plane.
I’m 22 and I live in a 1 bedroom in cap hill that’s $2400 per month. I think you should look into the newer apartments in Seattle. My bf used to live in a 2 bed/2 bath apartment that was $4200/month. That’s more likely the amazon employee type of housing
Lived in uw area (u district) the past 3 years bc it’s so damn cheap. I’ve moved to green lake now but i will say if you’re getting started her u district is the way to go.
Great video! And wow it's Sedona Christina! I would so watch a collab between you guys, like watch her walk around your place and zero-waste-ify it haha
We just moved here from Texas. Both vehicles broken into within 1 week. 2 months in we still are having permit trouble for parking. Seattle doesn’t like newcomers!! Streets are tight. Trying to buy a small house anywhere in Washington, and stunned by the crap out here that would be worth 30-40k in Texas is 200k here...sad. Stay away unless you love crowds, traffic, crime, parking tickets.
Don't give up on life and the universe I know of a great man who helped you me fix my broken hear beat relationship and everything was restored to pormal in days without delay
I got confused wondering what's going on with the name change and then I realized you and your sister are twins! Had to subscribe to both since I was going back and forth and didn't even know it! lol!
GRADITUDE for sharing Monica, low key sending you vibes that this is in preparation for that future VisitSeattleTV series [HEAVY HANDED HINT] It's very constructive to get the discussion going about living, moving & what are the expenses.
What’s better than one gorgeous UA-camr making amazing videos ... it is two gorgeous UA-camr making amazing videos 😀 I for legit thought it was Shelby at first .. 😊😊
Miss Monica - don't you own your house though? and you have roommates? just curious - was a little confused. I live in Tacoma & have rented pretty consistently nice houses (not apartments) that were 2000 sq ft for around $2,000 - however utilities are insane for these older houses at $400-500 per month!!
Hey Monica! I lived in Seattle alone for just barely over $1000 a month last year. Silvia Wood Thanks for this information! I’ve thought about moving to Seattle and hate sharing personal spaces with other people.

Yes! I've been looking at the Microstudios there! Good to see someone who's lived in one.
Is this low income housing? That’s cheaper than what I’ve seen
Child the south got me spoiled.
Facts 😂
What I was thinking this entire video 😩😂
There's definitely hundreds of towns on the west coast that are just as affordable as the south (I know from experience), but the job market and atmosphere draws many to the city. It's definitely a choice, and I know now why (I love it out here)

I only recently realized just how cheap life in Texas is
I thought about moving to Seattle one day and this came just in time!
You're blunt yet optimistic personality would fit in perfectly honestly
Do it.
visit a few times first!! also the weather is trash, except for the couple summer months, so beware lol
Omg Kellyyyyy I love your channel. Let’s be roommates. I promise I’m not like your dusty roommates in New York
Heard it was all drugfilled homeless people now. They use the streets for a bathroom.
Personally I’d rather deal with a bit of traffic and pay more/have more personal space than pay $1,000 a month to live with a bunch of roommates. But to each their own I guess
It's like this anywhere within an hour drive of Seattle.
bman thompson I live within an hour drive of seattle lol
Same tbh
It all depends on the nature of the commute. An hour in bumper to bumper traffic is very different from a largely traffic-free commute.
Just to point out: I think the first girl might be paying the Seattle MFTE (limited income housing program) apartment price because I know one room in the 4 bedroom apartment definitely go for over $1000 a month regular price!
Anna I was gonna say, I went to UW and lived in a 5 bedroom 1 bath and paid $625, but it was a really run down place 😂
cate13young I have been a UW student for a longgg time (undergrad and grad school) so I know the rental market in the U district pretty well too 😂
$625 for a nice renovated apartment in U-District?!!!! Definitely under the MFTE program
cate13young in 04 I was paying $500 for a really run down bedroom in the udist. Then the landlord sold it and they raised the rents.
My sister looked into the Parsonage and it’s $1,400 per room (in a 4 bedroom) for the 2020-2021 school year :/
seattle got so insane so quick - moved there for college in 2011 where I lived in various three bedroom hosues in capital hill for ~500 dollars a month but that price rose each year. By 2015 it was insane if you could find anything under $1000 for a tiny space.
i love this series and seeing what places around the world look like :)
I find these vids so interesting since I'm 23 from Australia and looking to move out of home here soon, happy it's much cheaper! Xx

mczag9 they are extremely hard to get though, the waitlists are crazy and your timing has to be perfect
Tell me more that's awesome
Ethann I had no problem last year, and looking on Craigslist now there are dozens available
@@maryc915 Thanks for the information
1400 a month is almost 50% of the take home pay of someone making the national average of 50k a year.still NUTS

so confused at first since I just saw Dior in a cut video 😂😅
OMG same here girl
Alyssa Turner i thought the same thing!! cut is filmed in Seattle!!
I just watched one yesterday!
ME TOO
I live in the other side of the world, High chance would never live in the US. But still watching this video anyway😂
Where do you live? South korea or japan? You like it?
The first apartment is legit. Its cheap and the living room and kitchen looks really modern.
I must be crazy....does she say she paid 700 dollars living with 8 people????? If that was divided fairly rent was 5600!!!!!! That is NOT reasonable
i mean, thats a 9 bedroom apartment/house
It's a shared house. We had a 3 bedroom, 1 bath attic apartment in the U-District for $800. Every room downstairs was singularly rented out.
$700 a month to live with 8 other people?! Wtf? That is absolutely insane
I love when you and Shelby do these kinds of videos!

Cole Harvey it’s definitely grey, cold and rainy like 9 months out of the year. I was born and raised in the PNW so I’m used to it but I know a lot of people that struggle when they move up here.
Eastern Washington is actually very sunny and almost no rain, but Seattle is so darn gray and rainy most of the times...

Finally a Seattle youtuber
this is not representative of seattle housing especially the udistrict lol
Danielle Ito How is that funny? Fool
How so?
usually 650 gets you a really small, run down room in the udistrict but a pretty nice room in a house or apartment ranges from 900-1200+ in just rent

I love the vibe of this video.
Hi Monica!!!!!! I love your vids sooo much!!! I also love that you are so positive!!! I hope you have a great day!

What camera do you use to record your videos? They are amazingly crisp.
I got confused wondering what's going on with the name change and then I realized you and your sister are twins! Had to subscribe to both since I was going back and forth and didn't even know it! lol!
How did you like living in green lake vs the other neighborhoods you’ve lived in?
it would be really cool if u did a nashville video
GRADITUDE for sharing Monica, low key sending you vibes that this is in preparation for that future VisitSeattleTV series [HEAVY HANDED HINT]
It's very constructive to get the discussion going about living, moving & what are the expenses.
Beautiful drone footage!
Thanks for doing this! Currently looking into moving to Seattle. I live closer to Tacoma right now. :D
I searched for churches and this was recommended
I bless you, amen.
Me too!!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Are Monica Church and Shelby Church related or the same person?
Mwa Ka there twins
That blue shirt really brings out your eyes! I love the video, but I was just thinking that the entire time LOL
What’s better than one gorgeous UA-camr making amazing videos ... it is two gorgeous UA-camr making amazing videos 😀 I for legit thought it was Shelby at first .. 😊😊
I am surprised your friend was walking inside her home w/o wearing her shoes 👍🏼
Miss Monica - don't you own your house though? and you have roommates? just curious - was a little confused. I live in Tacoma & have rented pretty consistently nice houses (not apartments) that were 2000 sq ft for around $2,000 - however utilities are insane for these older houses at $400-500 per month!!
