Thanks Matt, great overview about the grape variety! And I really liked your descriptions about the wines, too.
i spent a week drinking kekfrancos in Budapest and every single bottle was incredible. I wish I could it in the UK. Why don't they export it?! Its great that you are putting the info out there. Seems like people just don't know it exists so it it doesn't make it out of the country. This is such an incredible video. You have opened so many doors for me to get more into it.
It's grown a lot in Czechia as well, also under the name Frankovka! You might be able to locate some of those in the US. I found one in a big store, producer Vinné sklepy Lechovice from Znojmo, Moravia, Czechia. An absolute killer pairing with Czech goulash, cheese spätzle, and jägerschnitzel!
some great wines there definitely! Hungarian wines by far my favorites for their lovely QPR !
I always love your enthusiasm. Lemberger is on my list of wine to try eventually! I'm curious since you talk about underrated and lesser known wines have you tried chambourcin? Have you tried or do you intend to try "American" wines (mostly the French-American hybrids created by Albert Seibel)? I feel like they are still largely looked down upon if not flat out over looked within the wine community because of European wine laws (and, well, people being just plain snobby about it)
I have tried it but I’m not very well versed in it. The American vine that I think is the most interesting is Norton :)
Great stuff here! I think I have a similar pallete. Though I’ve not tasted as much Blaufrankish- Lemberger as you. Yes harder to find. Close to impossible for wines from other Eastern Europe countries other than Austria/Germany.. maybe a lit bit of Hungarian ... though I need to get back into more wine shops....
I like med -not heavy oaked and that graphite - sour cherry - earthy thanks blue and red fruit . Thanks Again
Fantastic intro on wines that never heard of. Great job....hunt starts today.
Thanks! I hope you enjoy
