I would like some shock mounts please John! I am 17 on my second xk8, which I just bought to restore. My budget for a car was 3k, and this one was $2,500, so restoring will be a slow, budget-focused process while I continue to work. It is my daily and drives over 2 hours to school and back. On my checklist are the mounts (which have completely collapsed), painting the hood, flushing the top, fixing the mirror, and several little fixes here and there. Your videos helped me diagnose the green shower on my first car (an xk8), and complete many other fixes. Your exhaust reviews helped me design an exhaust for my first xk8 as well! Unfortunately, I was hit by a car and it was a total loss, so I am restarting a restoration on another xk8! Learning a lot along the way thanks to your channel and Purdey! Thank you ❤
Your front strut videos are fabulous. You explained everything to detail. I just replaced my rear shocks watching your videos on that and it went perfect on my 2006 XK8. You always add those small details that make the task go smooth. I just ordered the front strut bushing kit from Peter this morning. He’s already wrote back and said they’re on the way. John, I appreciate all your videos. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your kind super-thanks @georgepappas6551. Its sincerely appreciated I will have a coffee on you on Monday.🍺😘👍 KInd folk like you keep me turning the camera on👍
Excellent tutorial, removed front green colored shocks. The tails of springs at top were oriented to the outside. Bought top mounts (URO) did not use. Used original mounts drilled rivets and cleaned the sticky mess that the Oklahoma had heat had melted. Installed same urethane bits used the full size pucks. Thank you, TTG videos thanks to Peter H.
Thank you John for collating this information and demonstrating the task, an excellent job as is usual. I thank also Peter and Steve who have obviously gone through the trauma of doing the job with improperly designed aftermarket components but have stepped up, to create solutions. I have been in touch with Peter and my set of components is winging its way as I write. It was very nice to do business with him. I will advise my JEC membership in Surrey of the solution and videos. Mike.
A great outcome John! I already have Steve's rebuilt shock mounts so good luck to the forthcoming winner. I echo your comments on these superior alternatives. They'll almost certainly outlast me!
What a great bunch of people on your channel John, I would also like to upgrade the shock mounts to my 97 convertible, sure it must be time, thanks John and all the Jaguar people out there.
‘I would like some shock mounts please John’ I’m 71 and had my XK8 around 7 months now, getting it sorted a bit at a time. Yours posts have been so helpful and am working my way through them all 😆😆 Changed all plugs, cleaned all coil packs, had gearbox service done, adamesh stage 1&2 & custom front box as 1 down pipe had a hole and both welds had broken off the front of the box ( absolutely love ❤️ that it now sounds like a V8). Changed all side reflectors back to red at rear and orange center and front. Had wheels refurbed back to silver from the graphite that they were when I got it 👍 replaced big breather pipe, and long air intake pipe as had holes in both and kept getting restricted performance message. K&N air filter. Had new hood pipes fitted as one was blown in the boot by pump. I now need to get boot lights working as they were both missing. Now fitted but need to get switch working. Can’t find vid on that yet!! So love tinkering with this car as it is fairly easy to work on, unlike my 2016 Mercedes GLE that I won’t even touch as so much electronics 😆😆 So getting things done as this is now hopefully my forever “Toy”😆 Regards John👍
“I would like some shock mounts Please John”. This is exactly what is needed on my 2000 XK8. She’s got 51,000 miles and lots of life left if I get this done, so will my new tires I have to purchase. Because of the shock mounts deteriorating, the tires have worn on the inside down to the threads. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You may remember my jag from Florida, I sent a video of a homemade smoke tester using a cigar. ~cheryl
‘I would like some shock mounts please John’. I've recently replaced my front shock absorber upper mounts - with the URO parts you're having trouble with. And, surprise surprise, mine are already failing after around 3,000kms. I've been following your shock absorber journey with great interest, because I can see it in my future fairly soon! Early 1996 XK8 coupe.
I would like some shock mounts, John. Loved this series of videos as my 02 XK8 definitely need the same upgrades as you've just done. Thanks so much for making and posting these videos, massive help for those who want to understand how to keep these fab cars running at their best.
I would like some shock mounts John. A great video again, I changed my springs last year saw wear in the bushes but didn’t know till now how bad they were.Good work John.
Hi John, Just been able to watch your video, I will be changing mine as they are identical to the ones you had. Therefore I would definitely like some shock mounts. Keep up the good work.
I would like some shock mounts please John. My XKR had white plastic spacers that had broken and for the life of me I couldn’t get any or see them in the parts breakdown you are the first person I have heard mention them. I put it back without them and it doesn’t seem to have any issues Great video and well done Thanks Rob
I would like some shock mounts John. I just reached 100,000 miles and my XKR sits about 1-1/4” low. I found your shock mount videos fantastic. Thank you John.
Hi John...what a wonderful video, if I hadn't already done this task I would have changed everything. . But now the shock absorbers are already installed. As you know. I would have that Black version preferred. It's really interesting work. Which is fun for us mechanics. Kind regards, Udo and thank you for this video. Great!!!
Hi, John! As usual, a great video!...I could really use those set of shock mounts, as my '99 convertible has 168,000 miles on it!....Bought it about two years ago as my "project car". Just finishing up replacing timing chains, tensioners, sprockets, water pump, water tower , all with the help of your video's.
I would like some shock mounts please John! I already bought the Euro mounts and was about to put them in when I saw your videos. Now it is clear that I have to proceed in the exact direction you followed. It's the logical thing to do.
I have a 2001 XKR in need of this exact solution. I would like some shock mounts please John. Thank you very much for your excellent channel and please keep it up!
Hi John, greetings from Italy! My XK8 is now nearly completely restored …only missing front shock mounts …so I really would like some shock mounts 😅. And btw thanks for your videos…. You really helped me in so many situations !!
I would like some shock mounts, John. 😇 i don't know how many times you save our day ! Even if i have some good experience with my 2000 one , you always find the way to teach us few tricks! Thanks from France !!
I would absolutely love some strut mounts just had engine and tensioners done now transmission pockets need a break lol but would love these strut mounts sir ❤

I would like some shock mounts please John. Am about to replace my car's original ones after 99k miles and got those yellow ones, but I think you have convinced me not to bother putting them in.
as usual John such a great helpful and informative video. did my front ones a few months ago with oem parts so I'll see how over time they perform might have to renew the rear top mounts as original on my 1998 xk8 convertible, out of interest I built a wokshop extension just for the xk8 and installed a 2 post lift, so can walk under the car to work on when needed an absolute blessing, great videos , always look foreward to them. Regards. Tony in NZ
I have the URO mounts on my car now so I will have to see how long they last. I do have my OEM ones under my bed though, they didn't even look that bad but I guess now they are off they will degrade pretty fast. Will be nice to have some brand new ones of the new ones from Baxtor or someone else that are super good. I would like some shock mounts please John

Hi John, Had to have my front shocks replaced at my last MOT. On the way to have the MOT done I heard a VERY loud bang and thought that I had run over something in the road. It was not to be, the lower spring support on one of the shocks had corroded and failed completely. Luckily I had just had the same shocks from British parts delivered 2 days before as I had seen your first video on this subject. I was able to take my new shocks back to the MOT garage for them to fit. I even bought the spring compressors you recommended! Force, not pressure. You are applying force and the steel is providing pressure against the elastomeric donut. Pressure is force per unit area. Why would the thin donut go on top?
Advised by Peter It’s to keep the bottom boss on the metal washer away from the smaller hole in the bottom of the pressing. Massively overkill but at least reasoned. Damping occurs in both directions and the preload on our dampers is not strong so they are not applying much force upward whilst at rest. However when you jack the car up the road spring fully extends the damper and apply quite a hefty pressure load. I’m pretty sure either way around would be fine though as I previously was using marshmallows😂

Nice work @Firehawk135. And yes the more reports im getting back, the more the hot locations seem to suffer more with mount failure.
Excellent post, John
Another very useful video John to help me understand how these parts work.

It is so annoying when fitting poor quality parts that have to be replaced shortly afterwards by OEM or better quality manufactured parts. I had the same issue with British Parts lower front banana arms for my X150.
Neville.
Sooooo annoying mate. Must admit I half expected issues when i fitted the first set. But I wanted to get involved with this whole debate online about wandering shock mounts. I am that sad individual who enjoys problem-solving to root cause😔. Given my job, I guess that is inevitable🤔

Force, not pressure. You are applying force and the steel is providing pressure against the elastomeric donut. Pressure is force per unit area. Why would the thin donut go on top?
