    We will find the electric field due to a line charge where the point is a certain distance=y along the edge of the line charge, therefor there will be no symmetry. (Part 2: Electric field in the y-direction.)

      Then you would have a line charge, as explained in the video.

      @@karhukivi No, in the video line charge but the charge on the dielectric material. I'm asking the situation charge on the metal line. Completely different

      @@kaplumbagaefendisi2837 Metal objects can also hold charge if they are isolated, like the metal dome on a Van de Graff generator or the gold leaves in an electroscope.

      @@karhukivi yes, but not like dielectric. On the metal line, charges can move freely and repel each other. Thats the problem what I ask. Charge on the dielectric and charge on the conductor are too different situations. So, its not easy as you think.

      It would make no difference if the line of charge was a conductor or an insulator, as long as the linear charge density was the same.
