One of the best races I've seen in 64 yrs.
v8 supercars bathurst race
We got 2 road course races, back-to-back in 2 weeks.
@ruasmith40k
Would have been even better if the rain hadn't come.
Even though I haven't been around for that long, doesn't take much to know an awful race
Every time they mispronounced or stumbled over SVG's name:
1:29 "Shane van Ginsenburgen" (my favourite)
2:14 "SVJ... G"
4:07 "Shane... van Gisbergen"
18:33 "van gisBERGen"
34:53 "van gisBERGen"
43:33 "Shane van gisBERGen"
53:00 "ven gisBERGen"
53:22 "Shane ben Bagizbergen"
57:33 "van gisBERGen"
1:14:38 (checks notes) "disbergen"
1:17:36 "gisBERGen"
2:24:31 "gisBERGen"
2:25:33 "Shane... ben Gisbergen"
2:25:55 "Bergen"
2:32:06 "Shane... ven Gisbergen"
2:33:30 "Shane... ven Gisbergen"
2:35:03 "gisBERGen"
2:35:24 "vasvih vesvedur"
2:36:29 "van gisberg"
2:37:00 "vansvi gisbergen"
2:43:27 "The Gearz"
2:44:45 "Shane van... gisBERGen"
lol. i noticed this as well
@elementalsheep2672 thank u mate this is hilarious 🤣🙏
I noticed as well, but putting the time stamps on it, I love it. 🤣🤣🤣
I can watch Australian Supercars in Indonesia, and in the championship, he is simply called Shane or Gizzy, but I think SVG is cool 😊
Brilliant!
Noah Gragson vs Turn 6 moments: 1:38 25:47 58:28 2:00:36
**TROUBLE TURN SIX!**
I can't say his race has been amazing so far... nor his Cup career
It’s not his fault that someone painted Ross chastaines face on the tires.
he "baconated" that corner
First one totally not his fault. Other three...
As an Australian, well done Shane, well done NASCAR and a special mention to the people of Chicago....What an epic event.
I mean, he's a Kiwi, but sure, I guess we could claim him?
@@traversal6881like England and Scotland, squint hard enough and they become they same thing
@@traversal6881 As much as we have a rivalry with the Kiwis, they are our brothers and we are theirs but @TA-wg9oi wasn't claiming him as one of ours but just saying well done. Just like Scotty Mac is doing in Indycar, I am proud of everything he has done in the 3 seasons he has been there after never driving an open wheel car before and yet he is a Kiwi too and he drove a Ford when here in the Supercars. Being a lifelong Holden fan, I could never support Scott here in Australia but he renewed my interest in Indycar and I never miss a race.
@@davidius74 sure, like how they claim they invented pavlova and that they DON'T cheat at cricket. aussies love to claim shit
@@traversal6881 nope no one owns Shane
One of the greatest races in nascar history.
2nd only to the Busch/Craven Darlington race for greatest of the 21st century
We need to do this again! Hell of a race, and I'd love to see us make it a tradition.
They’re doing Atleast another 2 years. They have a deal with Chicago for 3 years. Tbh this should be a race or 2 a year where they do an actual street course. It’ll bring it back to the NASCAR Roots where they were originally racing on the closed street courses
Toronto aswell.... 😏
🥱
@@keithfrazier8616keep crying
Your right. One time a year traveling to a different city.
Unbelievable, Van Gisbergen was in 18th with 20 to go, he gets all the way to fourth with 11 to go and he's not even mentioned. Were commentators asleep?! They only finally start paying attention when he arrives to third place with ten to go.
send that aussie commentary team up to give them some pointers
TBF, Dale Jr. couldn't get his name right once anyway but yes a decent commentary team would have been paying attention to that. The thing is he got through that big wreck unscathed and was up to 10th when we were advised the caution flag was out. The two cars in 8th and 9th (Reddick and Gibbs) got to keep their position despite being immediately in front of SVG as they all tiptoed through it but Shane got relegated back to 18th. This just shows how much better he was at the end of the race and if it went the full race distance of another 25 laps then he would have won by a lot more. He got enough of a lead on the first lap of the final restart that once he got the white flag he just eased it home without pushing just to make sure of the victory.
I Was Shock And Disbelief Watching Him Pass 3 Cars In 2 Or 3 Laps 😅
Obviously knowing the result I was waiting for SVG's name to be mentioned, but yes, nothing until he had made 14 passes and got 4th was he even noticed
Never watch NASCAR, not into oval tracks, but this was cool. I’d watch this.
They've raced road courses for the last 20 years btw.
@@Khuros and for several decades before that too
@@Khuros I think the issue at play here is they don't do a lot of them and the "look, another left turn!" Meme is prevalent that your garden variety observer assumes all nascar is oval track. This one got extra attention for the location, and I think it shows America has a hunger for a more f1 style of events. A league of all road races would be sweet.
@@Khuros Only a couple a year, so many good road courses in the states they could be racing at more often instead of toilet bowl bumping & drafting all the time (granted it is at 300 km/h at times), Road Atlanta and VIR seem like good ones. The top teams should also do a few international tracks a year, come on down to tackle Mount Panarama if you dare, we'll see who the real drivers are!
@@anydaynow01 Once people understand the massive aerodynamics fights going on during the Oval's it becomes far more interesting to watch. It's all about rhythm and flow. I think after this more road courses will take place. Just need them at Silverstone and Spa now. NASCAR is very fast but also extremely cumbersome so it will take some real talent to fly around Eua Rouge hahaha.
2:34:40 one of the greatest passes i've ever had the pleasure of seeing live
NASCAR should be proud. Even if the weather didn't completely cooperate, this was one hell of a race!
Now that should be made a permanent race. Totally awesome NASCAR.
SVG done a superb job and using all 3 pedals to downshifting is the best way to win a road course.
Respect from 🏴
Fact Heel And Toe Is An Advantage
A 3 time V8supercars champion, debuts on a street circuit.........
It felt like home to him......
This race reminded me of the good ol days racing go karts as a kid. So glad Nascar and Chicago did this! I hope to see them back next year with better weather.
After watching SVG for years in super cars it was amazing to see him come here and put on a race clinic for the American boys. Hope he comes back and does a road course.
I would love to see him race my favorite road course, Watkins Glen. Nascar boys have a lot more experience in this track. It should be fun to see how SVG runs there 😃😃
I think the current NasCar is very similar to the current v8 supercar unlike when Ambrose was racing
I am not sure I would call that putting on a clinic. He had 16 lap fresher tires. That is on his crew chief.
@@mossman381 Yeah but he got relegated 8 spots back to 18th after that big wreck even though Reddick and Gibbs who were also behind the wreck and got through it were allowed to keep their 8th and 9th spots. Either they also should have been relegated back or SVG allowed to keep the 10th position he was in for getting through it.
@@davidius74 I am not saying the guy doesn't have talent. He is a champion in other series but if he had the same lap tires, I don't think he would have run through the field like he did. If you put him in a good car on an oval track, I bet he would struggle to keep up with the top drivers.
2:35:25 Jeff Burton has a stroke
was wondering the same thing??
What a fantastic and funny RACE!!! Thanks from Spain NASCAR!!
Yah🎉
Greatest event I've ever attended! Thanks, NASCAR!!
What a finish. I love watching SVG go to work in everything he drives.
Turbo Tacoz
Repent and believe in the gospel
That was one of the coolest things I seen live, I cant wait to go again next year
Best Call NASCAR has made in quite a while. Excellent, Text Book Ending to the First NASCAR trip to Street Race in Chicago…. Only thing that’s gonna be Better is the Next Race back to the Streets of Chicago.
WELL DONE NASCAR 😊
Now F1 try that
As an Aussie who's been watching touring car/v8 supercar racing since the 80's, this is great to see!!! More rounds like this and I'll start following NASCAR.
Watching this race and the finish gave me chills all over again as it did watching it live. I cannot believe I witnessed Shave van Gisbergen not only win in his Cup debut, BUT WIN IN NASCAR PERIOD! That was one hell of a race and one I hope NASCAR does again cause that was a fantastic event. I can't wait to see how Shane does at Indy this yeae and to watch him full-time in the Cup Series in the future. Cause he's already my new favorite driver beside my most favorite, MTJ!
Still Can't Believe He Won 😅
This should be the future of Nascar
Give SVG any cars and he can win the race. He is on a league of his own, he is that good!!!
He wouldn't win on an oval course bro, he wouldn't even be in the top 10. Marcos Ambrose learned that lesson.
I bet he'd get eaten for lunch at Talladega, but yeah he's an awesome driver. Not talking anything away from him but Talladega is a whole different animal.
@@thesammyjenkinsexperience4996 Give SVG a season and he would win on a oval, he can adapt to any sort of racing
@@imc_jimmy5264 Oval racing is a completely different beast to anything else. No outside drivers have ever cracked the code.
@@thesammyjenkinsexperience4996 He has had success in Rally, GT Cars, Stock Cars, Open Wheelers, Sprint Cars, Drift Cars, iracing. He travels the world every year to race in Daytona, Le manns, Spa, etc. 12 Hour races, 24 hour races. He is a machine. He is racing back in Supercars this weekend. he squeezed it in between 2 races. This man has only had a few hours in a NASCAR. There is a reason this guy is good in anything he drives. I have no doubt he would be more than competative in anything he races. Hell he races motorbikes and quad bikes too. he is a racing machine beter than anyone we have ever seen.
Never would have imagined an actual official street race event taking place anywhere here in the US outside of Gran Turismo and Project Gotham Racing. This was awesome!
Awesome race. shout out to SVG, his street experience clearly helped in the end. Well done!
I think I am going to get back into NASCAR after seeing this. I remember when I was 9, I would watch NASCAR with my grandfather. The family were Dale Earnhardt fans but I would also root for #10 Tide car-Ricky Rudd!
Finally nascar seems to be headed in the right direction still love the ovals but pretty no neat to see them in Chicago tearing up the streets in the rain no less
Epic 🏁 What a great time to be a NASCAR fan!!
Hell yes, (finally!!) a genuine street course. Doesn't have the pedigree of Vancouver or Long Beach, but I'm all for something new like this for the Cup series. Cleveland and St. Pete are great tacks with the old CART and Indy series if you're looking for more spots and crews with experience in the US.
As a Clevelander who misses the Grand Prix at the airport, that would be fascinating to see 40 cars drive into turn 1 on a restart…
Gizzy makes Chicago looks like Townsville & Adelaide 😂😂
Not a moment of boredom it was fun to watch the whole race.
One of the races! I'm 67 been watching since I was 4.!!!!
Top 5. !!! All-time greatest races of gen -7 race cars. Loved it. !!! Thanks. !!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I like to see them race in the streets of New York City. Chicago is the first street course that’s the greatest race this season and history has been made.
Such great racing this season (for the most part). Please continue to work on improving the cars, as they can clearly race well when they do not have issues. Two back to back great races (and rating improvements). Keep up the good work NASCAR!
Just wish the Atlanta race on NBC this Sunday to really keep up the momentum. It will be on USA Network.
Everything said by the locals before the race is oddly similar to everything people said about the Vegas GP. And yet both races were some of the best races of their seasons. Street races are so damn exciting. Can’t wait for next year in Chicago 🏁
I LOVE how the FIRST race at the track was won by a driver outside of Nascar.😆
TBH, this will probably be the only NASCAR race i will watch. This was awesome. The cars sounds amazing. I'd love to see more nascar Street races.
endless possibilities in this amazing kind of race. maybe not the cup of tea of every fan but, at least for me, it works. bring it on and thanks nascar for the uploads.
Shane Van Gisbergen is A Maniac Power House New Zealand driver !!, I knew when the opportunity for Shane to get into NASCAR...he's a fantastic driver I watch him in the Super V8 series, a 3-Time Champion driver, He's gonna make the Opposition go Nutz, His style of Driving is Nothing compared to any driver in NASCAR... My Opinion, He's Like the Modern Style Road course Intimidator!!(with a Touch of New Zealand). I'm Glad he Joined up with Track House Racing and Chevrolet(Project 91) a Good Match Sponsor and Mfr. It's really Cool to see changes of this sport, Recently Nascar back to 24Lemans... Now Super V8 Driver to Nascar ... World HISTORY in The Making!!
Fact 💯
I have watched this over 20 times allready
I've Watched It 2 Or 3 Times,His Onboard On The Hand I've Watched Close To 20 Times,Just Fascinated And Trying To Understand How He Beat Everybody
@SVG
You sir are the wonder from down under! Well done! Well done indeed!
Great race and awesome coverage from the booth. If there is a safe way to keep the cars from going under the tire barriers, this should become more common.
Great job SVG and again, great job in the booth. I love the way the race was called and the energy. A++!
Harder to do right on a temp course like this where it reverts back to normal traffic afterwards, but I've seen installations where they sink an anchor (large bolt in concrete) in the third furthest row from the track and back, then patch the street afterwards. Might also depend on the agreement with the city, though Chicago could probably benefit from street patches!
Add: Come to think of it, having them set on a large slab of steel that's crane portable might be the best of both, although in Busch's case, having them deflect over the car saved him a lot of potential damage. Tire bundles are typically kept together by wire cable both in the vertical and horizontal planes, though here they're further 'banded' with an exterior boundary layer. It did its job though all things considered. Having them anchored as I suggested would have torn up his car and possibly the street; depends on the impact force by that third bolt location.
Boogity boogity boogity let's go street racing boys
So fresh, so joyfull, winner and a lot of stuff to watch during this race. nascar is just damn cool ! TY for the full race replay
SVG took the Nascar boys to school and the Teacher win...Great race.
Finally 🎉🎉🎉 NASCAR on street racing...Pure classic Pure Race congrats for this event
great race, please keep this race in the schedule
Not once did I hear about tire conservation or lap deltas being talked about in the commentary. That's a big difference I spotted here vs Intl race disciplines, especially V8s where SVG excels at it. Notice how everyone bolts 100% after the cautions where SVG seems to get swamped. That's his tried and tested tactic, bring the tire into the window nice and slow, then use it all up at the end. A masterful drive.
Exactly,And The Commentators Were Prasing The Regulars For Going Hard At The Beginning 😂💯
A shame about the weather, Chicage in that location is so beautiful on a nice spring-summer day.
Haven't followed NASCAR in years but I must say, this is pretty cool. Looks like something straight out of Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo!
First, thank you NASCAR for post g the races on UA-cam other groups could learn form you.
Was there any doubt SVG was gonna take this NASCAR drivers are going to have to get better, since the fans have shown they want to see more than left hand turns.
I love this race they should make this race every year great race it was fun to watch and lot action i just whish we got see side by side restarts but great race
I think every 2 or 3 years would bring it more prestige. Great race, great visuals (except all those McDs signs)
That was a lot spicier than many road courses I've seen. Helluva race!
loving the road races! Nice to see NASCAR move away from turning left over and over
Omg omg SO AWESOME!!! Thank you NASCAR, awesome!! Sending love :)
I was entertained that’s for sure
don't know anything about Nascar, but this is fun! Love the brutal engine sound.
Absolutely agree with everyone else, we need more street races. 👍👍 Bring the sports to more audience that not used to watching Nascar.
this actually reminds me of those GRiD video game driving a high power Mustang across US street tracks, good fun 👍👍
I'm watching Nascar for the first time 😄 I love it 😍
Good on ya Shane bloody great racemate
Unreal race, 👍
NASCAR on a wet track? in a street circuit in the middle of downtown Chicago? Never thought 20+ years watching this sport would end up in this. bring it on
I don’t watch nascar because the oval tracks in big stadiums offer very little intrigue, but this was a really exciting race! Can we get more street tracks in big cities on the calendar please?
First nascar race I've watched as I'm not interested in oval racing but this was good 😊
Great race
Reminds me of that fantasy street tracks in Nascar Thunder 2004
This is awesome I hope Nascar expands the street racing series!
Cool to see SVG win.
Side note Austin Dillon sucks
Fact 💯
The beautiful Chicago skyline and the train in the background out of one of the turns (turn 2?) Creates such a great watching experience. Awesome camera placement NBC with an amazing idea from nascar and a word class city.

thanks again for doing this, hope you continue to show these replays! :)
oh and i think they should do a chicago race at night, think that would be cool!
Being at that race, at the end of the race everyone was a SVG fan. everyone was so excited to see him win.
More like this... and I could definitely be into Nascar.
Awesome!!! This a very exciting race.
My first nascar race and it was awesome
Still unreal to watch the final laps, 6 months on, pure chills! Will miss having Shane racing here in Australia, go get them!
1:47:54 looks like the game NASCAR Ignition lol

Just a shame that the race didn't go the 100-lap distance. I blame it though on the original start time, but NASCAR has changed the length of the event for next year from 100 to 75 laps. Instead of the Grant Park 220, it will be the Grant Park 165. Xfinity race as well from 55 to 50 laps to become the Loop 121 to the Loop 110 after it was truncated after 25 of 55 laps.
I was there. Hope they do this again in 2024. Maybe on dry track hopefully. Fans around me were extremely excited (as was I) when they dropped the green flag. 👏😁
I love this, much more action and fun than the boring F1 races i find. I like american culture you can even see it in racing of yours. Big rough and all out. big power NA V8 with great sounds. much respect

Shane Van Gisbergens use of the clutch to downshift is quite normal in circuit racing even with a sequential transmission. It allows the driver to match rev the engine RPM into the turn approach and minimise the possibility of the rear wheels locking up. I'm definitely not surprised he used it especially given the weather conditions. Most likely part of the edge he had for the race.
Heel And Toe Definitely Helped
Just another masterclass from SVG with turning left and right in the wet.
I will miss the Chicagoland speedway but this was really something what a cool race.
Chicagoland may come back in the feature
GIZZZZYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and people though this race would be a total waste.
First time watching NASCAR .. y .. obviously didn't think going in circles was fun .. but this is nice .. these cars are so good.. they should do this more often
NASCAR just got Schooled!! Love it, especially the full race replay from Shane's car

I’ve hated this street race from the very start ever since it was announced last year up until race day for Cup, and later on after the finish, I’ve slowly (not quickly) but slowly began realizing how good of an interesting street course it was for the schedule.
2:43:50 No no no no no, Supercars don't race in ovals 😂
