How did curiosity not have a microphone? That's like the watch from Spy Kids that couldn't tell time. A billion dollar rover didn't have a 5 dollar mic lol.

@Mike Bailey well man that's your point of view, mine is different. Difference doesn't imply i need to *grow up* and can you illustrate the human imagination going to outer space concept ? I didn't understand you.
@Mike Bailey Neil's a teacher. He entertains in order to convey information in a way that keeps people's attention. The fact that he's popular shows that it works. I didn't like this video as much as some others of Neil's, I thought the entertainment got in the way of the information but the ten minutes or so of actual information in it came from the best source.
2 questions in one. Are black holes are at the densest possible density that an object can be, and if yes wouldn't that mean that if you fell into a black hole you would just get smushed into a incredibly flat surface and just lay on the surface of the black hole
Okay i love all the science aspects of this, but the drone is by far the coolest thing on there. And i can't wait to hear what it sounds like on Mars. Also i just realized they have stereo vision and a microphone. So Mars Walk in VR when?
I fully expect the sounds of mars will be pretty dull, yet the fact they will be extra terrestrial will make at least the first hearing pretty exciting.
Dr. TJ. When I said with that microphone we can now say yes and I'm so anxious to hear the sounds of Mars I implied that we humans could now hear it. Unfortunately my implication did not equal a clear explanation.
They should have added some audio playback on the marscopter that plays out, "Wee! Weee!" as it flies. I mean, if we can listen to Mars, and we're going to be flying around on Mars, why not have some fun with it.
Remember, the single most important feature of the rover is multi-purpose-use. This mission allows us to hear Mars. But a Future mission would allow us to hear other rover pings or humans if they need to talk to Earth. Love this! Truly beautiful workmanship. Love the Planetary Redox, unless it's all Serpentine or Olivine. Then we are in trouble. That would be our Kryptonite. And we wouldn't be able to Terra Form the planet. We could use it for forever enclosed colonies- mining, science, and Beta Test, etc...but we can't terraform Asbestos. I hadn't considered that. Ouch. But who know, we could get lucky snd have copper, etc. hmmm...
I have a question. I've been reading about domed cities on places like Mars; it basically skips over terraforming by making that area within the dome habitable. I'm wondering how big things like that can be built. Could a dome cover an area of say 10 000 square miles? 20 000? more? Probably not with the metals we use now but with carbon nanotubes or something more advanced like that
@@andresparedes5259 well yeah I know that. I just wanna know if its physically possible to build something that big. That's probably the better way to go on Mars anyway. Domes over large areas instead of direct terraforming. 10 000 square miles is almost twice the size of the greater Tokyo area so you could fit and support millions of people in that
I think I know the Norwegian that designed or worked on that part ... He might have been doing an earlier mission, but I know he was working on the Mars Rover. Not sure which one. Anyway. Kinda cool.
Thank you for posting. I had the chance to witness a rocket launch in 2018. Incredible experience. I posted a pretty cool clip of the trip to my channel.
By using integral and differential calculus. It's all in the math. Rather hard math to boot. lol I have attempted to calculate a landing on Mars a few times. Let's just say that I have no business applying for that job. lol
Rovers are no substitute for the excitement and sense of wonder of a manned mission. On the long term, if we consider the effect on public opinion and the children who could be inspired to pursue scientific studies, every rover we send is a waste of money which should really go towards putting a human up there.
It will, sort of. Those rock cores will be stored, in "cupholders" if you like, and dropped off in specified places for another robot mission to pick up later and send back to Earth.
Lol your never going to get these rovers back to Earth lol maybe if they just made show case models but honestly zero rovers will be back on earth mark my words. ❤️❤️❤️

Lol ya😂👍

Chuck is smarter than he acts. He's not dumb.
When you can get the NASA chief scientist, I would expect a full hour video.
When you can get the NASA chief scientist, I would expect no more than 3 minutes of Q&A because "NASA chief scientist" sounds like a very busy person.
@Tom Mears I love how people know better what others meant to say.
In all fairness, Neil didn't realise he was the chief scientist until he said so.

Ironically, there will probably be at least one person that thinks to remix the recordings of sounds from Mars into music.

This new rover is like a new iPhone but this one has the headphone jack!
well the price is pretty close :))
🤣🤣😂

Star Talk is the best. Like anytime, all the time. Thanks Neil and Chuck! 👍
