I said the same thing. Gerald will certainly betray Robotnik. And Robotnik will try to save Earth, possibly dying in the process. In this trailer, Robotnik states he wants to rule the world. Shadow confirms later on that there’ll be nothing left to rule. Yet in the _first_ trailer, we _distinctly_ hear Robotnik say “If I can’t rule the world, I may as well save it.” This clearly signposts that Robotnik will switch sides to save the planet. And if Jim Carey is truly going to retire after this, then him dying to save the world is a good way to write him out.
But at the same time... If they plan to continue making sequels after this... It would feel kind of weird without Eggman... I'm not necessarily saying Jim Carrey should continue playing the role of Eggman, rather, the sequels will need to be carefully scripted to suit the absence of Eggman

My prediction is that Sonic and Shadow are fighting over the Chaos Emeralds, but they don't go super yet. Remember, the ARK's doomsday plan in SA2 only works once the Chaos Emeralds are in the cannon's core. And in the first Adventure game, it shows that Super Sonic can only be activated through positive feelings and determination (they hint as this in the second movie as well but don't confirm that this is still the case), meaning that if this carries over, Shadow wouldn't be able to go Super due to him being motivated by revenge. So what I think happens here is they fight in their base forms, Shadow wins and takes the emeralds to start the ARK's collision course with the earth, and the ending plays out similar to SA2 (maybe replacing the Biolizard with a Gerald robot or something for budget).
The Chaos Emeralds can't be activated through ONLY positive feelings; the whole point of that scene was that Chaos used his rage to become stronger, and that Sonic could fight that with positive emotions. There's no collision either. The Cannon came out of the river, it's nowhere big enough as the Ark to actually do the same amount of damage. And it shows Shadow being the one to power the cannon.

I would also just prefer if they save the super forms for after Shadow's alliance with Sonic, since I like the symbolism that Super Shadow has with it being used only when Shadow knows who he is and what he wants Edit: the collision course was dangerous because of the speed of the ARK and the reactivity of the cannon's core, so it could still happen. They could also replace it with firing the eclipse cannon at the earth, but idk how that would fit into a final battle

It seems I'm the only guy who's paying close attention. In the trailer, when all the villains are standing by each other, there's a gap between Eggman and Stone. And there's one important character introduced in Sonic Adventure 2 that we aren't seeing in the film thus far. I seriously think Paramount is hiding the presence of Rouge the Bat.

I didn't see the reflection of the emeralds in Sonic's eyes until they were pointed out! That's so interesting! The part when Tails is confused with Detective Pikachu is so cute and funny!!! Sonic and Pokémon are my favorite franchises. I never thought to draw parallels between Tails and Pikachu though. However, I did try really hard to find similarities between Shadow and my most favorite Pokémon, Mew and... well.... the only conclusion I came to was that both of them are half rodents. With that said, I watched a video which talked about the similarities of Shadow and Mewtwo such as their troubled pasts and lust for revenge. It's very interesting how these Japanese animators conceptualize ideas for these franchises. Talking about the ending of this movie, I really hope it's different than the one in SA2. I've seen it way too many times through the years and I cry every time. We already know Maria dies in this movie which is heartbreaking at its core. I don't want to see my favorite Sonic character die, too. This is totally wishful thinking but I can always hope
Knowing Shadow he won't immediately turn good as was Knuckles in the last movie but would try to aid Sonic in order from stopping Ark from destroying the earth. I have a theory about how this could go down between the eggs, what you said makes sense, so when egg 1 learns about egg 2’s intentions of destroying humanity, he rebels and eventually either gets kicked of the ship or makes it to an escape pod. Or it could be the other way around where egg 1 helps hedgehog 1 at first but then learns egg 2 is alive and thinks that destroying humanity would be a good idea and ditches hedgehog 1 to help egg 2 and hedgehog 2

I'm calling it now, this movie ends either on a cliffhanger, or shadow still stays evil by the end of the movie (he doesn't get redeemed) and he teams up with eggman's assistant (forgot his name) to build metal sonic to rival sonic. (Hinted from the poster where shadow holds Sonic's three quils). Then we get to the end credits and see Amy. That's my prediction anyway. 🤔
Honestly my take is similar, but different. Stone looking dejected I think is the key. I think it's going to be that Agent Stone is the first one to question Gerald's intentions. However, Eggman will deny this, wanting to reunite with his family. In which case Agent Stone will be rejected. Eggman will choose his grandfather over him. And Stone will think it's over, trying to move on from Eggman. However it's probably the scene we see Sonic Hub show here. Where Robotnik will realize, he made a terrible mistake. And will end up helping Sonic and Shadow similar to the game. Think the Super Sonic V.S. Super Shadow scene is very likely. They've advertised the stakes in this movie will be higher in an interview with the producer. And pitting the two supers against each other, would be a great way to do that. But we'll have to wait and see.
I think the Arc under the control of Gerald will be the “final boss” and Shadow has a last minute change of heart and the two of them destroy the arc in their super forms.

I think that there's more of a chance of Both Robotnik's dying than Shadow. After all, their Actor is retiring. ... I mean, It is hard to imagine a future Sonic thing without Robotnik in it, but I don't think it's as impossible as others think it is. Paramount sonic team has plently of sonic villains to choose from. I feel like Dr. Stone and Metal Sonic would be the next - more natural way to go. Heck, They could even Keep Shadow as the villain until he meets Amy in the next movie... idk, it's just... how long can you keep a guy from retirement until it becomes unethical? Plus, with how much Shadow's Popularity has sky-rocketed this year -- Killing the dark hedgy off at this point, would be a Very Strange decision. After all, the only reason He died the first time, was because the creative Saga Team thought they weren't gonna do anything with him beyond that point. History has shown -- that that not be the case, ever. Killing Shadow in the movie - even if its a fake-out - I think will only hurt the story telling moving forward.

I hope the third movie takes itself seriously while still having good jokes, have better action sequences and some emotional beats to it.
It seems I'm the only guy who's paying close attention. In the trailer, when all the villains are standing by each other, there's a gap between Eggman and Stone. And there's one important character introduced in Sonic Adventure 2 that we aren't seeing in the film thus far. I seriously think Paramount is hiding the presence of Rouge the Bat.
@markdpane I'm pretty sure they've written her off, I mean, she is one of the main characters of SA2 but it can still work without her (especially when team Sonic are actually working with G.U.N here so there's no real need for a double agent), and honestly, I can't see how they will translate this relatively provocative character into this style of CGI properly 🤣.

I have a theory that hinges on this: (1) The Chaos Emeralds turn thoughts to power, (2) Shadow struggles to remember Maria's promise through the PTSD, and (3) Chaos Control exists in this movie. Sonic could pull off Chaos Control then use the Emeralds' power to help Shadow remember what Maria's promise was

The part when Tails is confused with Detective Pikachu is so cute and funny!!! Sonic and Pokémon are my favorite franchises. I never thought to draw parallels between Tails and Pikachu though. However, I did try really hard to find similarities between Shadow and my most favorite Pokémon, Mew and... well.... the only conclusion I came to was that both of them are half rodents. With that said, I watched a video which talked about the similarities of Shadow and Mewtwo such as their troubled pasts and lust for revenge. It's very interesting how these Japanese animators conceptualize ideas for these franchises.
Talking about the ending of this movie, I really hope it's different than the one in SA2. I've seen it way too many times through the years and I cry every time. We already know Maria dies in this movie which is heartbreaking at its core. I don't want to see my favorite Sonic character die, too. This is totally wishful thinking but I can always hope

Knowing Shadow he won't immediately turn good as was Knuckles in the last movie but would try to aid Sonic in order from stopping Ark from destroying the earth. As for with Gerald and Robotnik well at least for Gerald he would still go through wanting to destroy the earth for he still grieving over his granddaughter and wanting revenge on the people who took her away from her.
I feel like the thing that will set Shadow on the path of good would be one line...

I’m hoping it’s not shadow who is the main villain, because he is one of my favourite characters and he has always been an anti hero (kind of like the Deadpool & Wolverine “worst wolverine”) of the sonic franchise and I don’t want him to be completely bad. I’m hoping Gerald creates something worse than shadow but it is revealed in the middle of sonic and shadows fight, being teased through the movie, then egg man and shadow joining team sonic to defeat Gerald
Based on the leaked transcript, we are indeed getting Super Sonic versus Super Shadow.
So things the leak has gotten right so far:
- Space Colony ARK
- Gerald Robotnik and Robotnik (Eggman) both in the movie together
- Super Sonic and Super Shadow both in the movie (this is pretty obvious, so I'm just including it as a formality)
Things the leak shows that we haven't seen yet:
- Some kind of confrontation between Gerald and Eggman
- Super Sonic fighting Super Shadow
- Super Shadow removing his Limiter Rings and pushing ARK away from Earth
- Weird things happening with the clocks while Super Shadow is pushing ARK
This leak was posted at the same time as the Knuckles miniseries leak, and every single thing in that leak (the miniseries leak) was 100 percent accurate.

I have a theory about how this could go down between the eggs, what you said makes sense, so when egg 1 learns about egg 2’s intentions of destroying humanity, he rebels and eventually either gets kicked of the ship or makes it to an escape pod. Or it could be the other way around where egg 1 helps hedgehog 1 at first but then learns egg 2 is alive and thinks that destroying humanity would be a good idea and ditches hedgehog 1 to help egg 2 and hedgehog 2
As other commentators say, perhaps Gerald and Shadow will betray Eggman, and he and Sonic will defeat these two. And Eggman will probably die, and this is a great decision since Jim Carrey wanted to retire. (Gerald will also be taken out of the film. He will probably die too, since Jim Carrey is retiring). And Shadow will either be left in the franchise or he will also be taken out of the film. And if this turns out to be true, who will be the main villain of the subsequent films?
If you've heard the rumor about Paramount's plans for Silver, you probably know that his arc is directly related to Mephiles. And perhaps Mephiles will be the main villain. If this is true then the rumor with Amy and Metal Sonic will be fake. If Eggman dies without him no one will create Metal Sonic. If that's the case, I don't know how they'll add Amy to the franchise.

I think there is actually a chance they give Shadow a heroic death the way they wanted to do originally.
Honestly my take is similar, but different. Stone looking dejected I think is the key. I think it's going to be that Agent Stone is the first one to question Gerald's intentions.
However, Eggman will deny this, wanting to reunite with his family. In which case Agent Stone will be rejected. Eggman will choose his grandfather over him. And Stone will think it's over, trying to move on from Eggman.
However it's probably the scene we see Sonic Hub show here. Where Robotnik will realize, he made a terrible mistake. And will end up helping Sonic and Shadow similar to the game.
Think the Super Sonic V.S. Super Shadow scene is very likely. They've advertised the stakes in this movie will be higher in an interview with the producer. And pitting the two supers against each other, would be a great way to do that.
But we'll have to wait and see.
I think the Arc under the control of Gerald will be the “final boss” and Shadow has a last minute change of heart and the two of them destroy the arc in their super forms.

I think that there's more of a chance of Both Robotnik's dying than Shadow. After all, their Actor is retiring. ... I mean, It is hard to imagine a future Sonic thing without Robotnik in it, but I don't think it's as impossible as others think it is. Paramount sonic team has plently of sonic villains to choose from. I feel like Dr. Stone and Metal Sonic would be the next - more natural way to go. Heck, They could even Keep Shadow as the villain until he meets Amy in the next movie... idk, it's just... how long can you keep a guy from retirement until it becomes unethical?
Plus, with how much Shadow's Popularity has sky-rocketed this year -- Killing the dark hedgy off at this point, would be a Very Strange decision. After all, the only reason He died the first time, was because the creative Saga Team thought they weren't gonna do anything with him beyond that point. History has shown -- that that not be the case, ever. Killing Shadow in the movie - even if its a fake-out - I think will only hurt the story telling moving forward.
