Pulwama farmer switches to hi-tech farming to earn Rs 5000 daily through polyhouse cultivation

Farooq Ahmad Ganie, a farmer in Pulwama involved in horticulture said, we earn annually. That annual income we used to spend on procuring fertiliser, pesticide, labour and cartons for apples. So in the end, our expenses were equal to the annual earnings we made.
Now after using the Department of Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare, district Pulwama's government scheme of Polyhouse farming to cultivate vegetables, we are earning 4,000 to 5,000 per day. We sow the seedlings and get money. My polyhouse is 100ft x 25ft. In one season I get quarter to two lakh for the seedlings, says Farooq.
At first we did not know what a Polyhouse was. I am grateful to the government department which made me aware of the scheme in which I get a 50 per cent subsidy. The government showed me the way and according to my capacity I got the subsidy. And that is how this polyhouse got installed.
Farooq said many farmers are not aware of the scheme as they do not go out of their house. It is unfortunate that people are not taking advantage of the government schemes which are for our benefit.
