Yeah I personally always felt safer in such vehicles but in my days it was the side by sides being used by the US, I was a JTAC so I found myself on some very interesting ops. It just felt better being in the open & If needed u can easily jump in & out of them. In various MRAP”s i just felt closed in a sweaty slow hot box just waiting for an IED or a TIC to kickoff. In such situations I felt I didn’t have much of a feeling what was going on & when you get out it took a moment to get ur bearings so to spk so I would take something like a Razor to go to war in any day. Glad we are keeping up our edge on our enemies.

Learning from the Bravo Two Zero experience where the 8 man team were compromised while on mission deep behind enemy lines, these vehicles would be a game changer if the same 8 man team had these vehicles which would help them in making quick getaway and to carry their heavy bergens.

DPVs and Pinkies existed at the time, McNabb refused to use them, got most of his team killed including leaving a man behind and then blamed other people for his problems.

@@manticore4952 You’ve got a point there about using Land Rovers. The Pathfinder Platoon had a mission in Southern Iraq during OIF.
After driving past US lines north of Nasiriyah, the 3-vehicles 9-men PFP team were tracked by Iraqis before being attacked along the road while on the way to their objective. Their Pinkies were bristling with .50 cals and GPMGs. They fought their way back to Nasiriyah without suffering any casualties. Had they been on foot, the outcome would have been very much different.

Quite right - although McNab could have taken Defender 90's but he scorned them because they were not 110's and too small!
I bet, if David Stirling was in that hanger, he would have preferred the 90 because: (1) it's easier to conceal, (2) looks a bit like the UAZ jeeps, the Iraqis were using and (3) better than nothing...
Bravo Three Zero took Land Rovers (also scorning the 90)...

A platform the MOD can build off. I’d imagine they’d be looking heavily into integrating an electric motor to it so it’s not loud approaching their target.
So much advancements have been made recently with electric motors , allowing less area and weight a battery is taking up on their vehicles.

    • @loganholmberg2295

Except electric batteries are terrible off roading you lose about 80 percent of your efficency cause your driving slow on ruuged terrain on heavy tires. Aero dynamics and tarmach make electric cars effiecient. Off roading does not.
Take the new hybrid Jeep 4 xE. it can go up to 27 miles on the hughway on just the battery. It gets barely 4 miles on an offroad trail.

In a full scale war, can be helpful for near distance material replenishments i think, where the humvee equivalent can't go. The future commando force program seems great. I say “seems” because it needs adequate funding to be anything other than a typical government (of any colour) initiative - great words; no back up.
With a son in the Corps, I’m told that funding remains so poor that most commandos are buying their own kit. How can that be right? We ask these people to put their lives on the line and then don’t provide proper boots or kit.
I’m not for a minute suggesting taking money away from something daft like overseas aid. No, let’s scrap that new yacht which ,even if it were more than an ego project, ought to be funded from the Business development budget and not the Ministry of Defence.
No point at all about saying national scandal - it would only go only that long list. Politicians have a difficult job - how do they balance ego- projects against vote-winning ideas

I don't think it's about being camera shy. A lot of the time the faces of special ops guys are blurred. These guys do all manner of stuff in foreign countries, and you really don't want the enemy knowing that a certain bearded shepherd is actually a soldier from the UK.

Extremely surprised the US would make this as IMO it's not the greatest design. Extremely open, no armor, no weapons, still get soaked by water. It seems like it would be the "golf carts" for higher ranking officers to travel at a base, but in a military version lol. Wouldn't really even be useful against 3rd world nations. I wonder what the US had in mind for these. More for export?

Special operations guys use these--Special Forces, SEALs, etc. If you get secretly dropped out of a plane in the middle of the desert forty miles from your objective, one of these vehicles loaded up with equipment can be dropped with you. You'd probably rather drive to your objective than proceed on foot carrying a seventy pound ruck. These vehicles aren't trying to do the job of a tank or an armored personnel carrier.
