I think I understand this video:
The dog represents fear. The guy is afraid of having a relationship with someone. So when an opportunity comes for the guy he always ends up getting afraid and running away from the opportunity (This is when the dog is attacking him). So around the end of the video the guy is in a coffin. I think this represents that the guy thinks he is done. He will never be able to be in a relationship because of his fear. Then the dog attacks while he is still in the coffin, so the fear is still gripping him. Then the woman shows up and she also has a dog. But it's on a leash and not attacking her. She has the fear, but she is able to control it. Basically, everyone has the fear, but you just have to learn to control it.

To me it feels like the person had always been negative, until the last moment he turned optimistic because he has "found something he need".

This song is supposed to be to the love of your life but I relate this to myself. This is a song full of hope and struggle at the same time. We all have demons in ourselves, fears, and dark past, but we gotta believe that we are stronger than our fears. We must not listen from the negativity for it will eat us. We only live once, so we need to live the life we want, for nothing or no one is always there for us. We can wish for someone to be there to pick us up everytime we fall but at the end of the day it’s only ourselves who can help us to be stronger.

I saw somebody say that the Dog is a metaphor for the guy's fears. He has a chance to make something awesome with this girl but his fears catch him up every time and ruin it, in the end it ruins life for him. I think the Idea is at the end you see the Girl has her own fears as well, and they help each other find a way to deal brave them.

The dog is the man's insecurities. They always "attack" the man, when he is near a girl. However, in the end the man sees, that the girl also has a dog ("insecurities") but the dog is on a leash (she has learned to tame them). So to put it very simple, the video says, that when you are afraid to ask someone out, the person is just as afraid as you are and you should not be afraid to ask him or her out, but deal with the fear :)

When I was 17, I had just started dating my boyfriend. We were poor (I was homeless and living in a youth shelter) and I had nothing. We both loved onerepublic and went to sit outside the concert because it was outdoors and you could see over the fence back then. Someone came up and gave us free tickets, we went in and it was pouring rain. We heard this song for the first time in each other’s arms, dancing gently in the rain. It’s been our song ever since. Makes me smile every time I hear it ❤️
