Doesn't work, my ps4 only let's me look at my add ons for witcher 3 wild hunt, I can't launch the game from extended storage
I have an external hd for my ps4 thst is full of games. Will it just plug and play?
Or do i have to format the hd then reinstall the ps4 games onto the ps5 to then put them back on extetnal hd
Quick question, I see that you have the ability to cloud save your data files, but you recommend porting the saves to a USB. Does the cloud saving not work between the systems?
Thanks for this video, definitely gonna grab this hard drive!
Thanks for watching! I did not see the capability for cloud saving, I don't believe Sony Playstations are capable of that. I know Nintendo Switches can do that. If that were the case, then USB sticks would be unnecessary. Am I missing something?
@@Avionyx yeah you missed it bud. As long as you have PS plus, you can upload to cloud and download. I just did it from my PS4 to my new ps5
@@Avionyx Hi, I Have a 5TB External Hard Drive with all my games downloaded it that I've purchased online, I'm planning to give it to my son for his birthday present, will he be able to use the Hard Drive on his PS4 without any issues? I did download everything under my name & account from my console, so the Hard Drive Should Be Good To Go?
Can i use my storage of my phone to transfer .pkg game files ?
So on Ps5 which wont let me download my old ps4 games for free, i can just get an external Hard drive and USB flash drive and that will let me copy my ps4 games, put the EHD in the PS5 and i'll play old games I have without rebuying them at no extra costs?
Yes! I don't remember, bit of could have sworn I was able to re-download prior PS4 game purchases from my PS5 onto my external. Either that, or you have to do it using your PS4.
Does your external hard drive have to be plugged in to play the game, if so, what happens if some how you unplugg it while in game? On ps4
Thanks in advance
Yes it has to stay plugged in...not sure what would happen if it's accidentally unplugged.
Can I play the games on any console offline ? Without being primary user
No, the purchaser/user account of the game must be signed in to be able to play the games.
So I have loads of games stored on my external hard drive that I used for the PS4. Say I want to play god of war for example, this is stored on my hard drive. Do I have to plug my hard drive into my ps5 and copy the game over that way?
No, I know this makes no sense but you need to save all your save game data to a separate USB stick. Then plug both your external hard drive and USB stick into the PS5. Then copy the save game data to the PS5 and then you can pick back up where you left off in the game. If at some point you're going to play back on your PS4, replace with save game data on the USB stick with the one on the PS5 now and then plug both drives into the PS4, rinse and repeat.
So you can play the games straight from the external hard drive without transferring to the internal hard drive? Just trying to clarify. I appreciate it!
No, you still have to transfer to the internal to be able to play it, weird I know lol but thanks for watching!
Can I play my PS4 games on an external ssd on my PS5 console?
Hi thank you for the easy explanation. Does it work with physical copies of games you have installed? I'm thinking on buying an SSD for playing cyberpunk 2077 on my ps4 pro. It came in 2 discs, one for installation only and one when playing. How would I go about it to copy the game? The same way? Also need the cd in the console when playing?
Thank you
If you have a hard drive connected to your console, it should automatically copy the necessary data to the hard drive. Just to be sure, go into the settings to confirm. But yes you would still need to have the game disc inserted to play whole the hard drive is connected. If you were to want to play the same saved game data on your PS5, put the disc in the PS5 and connect your hard drive and it should pick back up where you left off at. If not, you would need to copy the Saved Game Data from the PS4 onto a stick and then insert that stick also into the PS5 as well as the hard drive connected and disc inserted. Hope that helps!
I've ps4 with external hard drive , can i use my external hard drive directly in ps5 and play my games or need to use USB between two console..!?
Question can I copy gta 5 from a USB to ps4 without hard drive
I'm pretty sure you can, you just have to through the trouble of copying the game FROM the usb ONTO the internal drive of the PS4 before you can play it. The USB stick or external hard drive must be compatible first.
hi so for eg, i have a digital version of a game in my ps4 so, can i download that into an external hard drive and give it to my bro who has a ps4 with different ps acc in it, would it work ???
It will not work. It will only work on a PS4 console with your account logged into it. So if you made yourself a profile on HIS PS4 with your account logged in, then he can play that downloaded PS4 game from the hard drive or if saved onto the internal. That game is connected you your PS account.
If you keep switching it from one playstation to another it won't harm portable ssd will it? Any help please
Just be sure if you're playing the same game and going back n forth between consoles, to follow the instructions on saving/loading save game data using a USB flash drive.
So you CAN play games directly off of the external hard drive? It seems in this video you are plugging in the external hard drive, and playing the games that are downloaded on the hard drive
Does this mean I can move all my games from my ps4 to an external hard drive, and then play everything from the external hard drive to save space on my ps4 console?
Actually no, think of the external hard drive as just a storage shed. You will move (copy) your belongings (PS4 game data file) into your first house (PS4 console) so you can use it. If you want to use it in your second house (PS5 console) you will have to move (copy) your belongings back into your storage shed (by saving back onto the external hard drive) and placing it in your second house (connecting the hard drive to your PS5 console and copying the PS4 game data file onto the PS5's internal hard drive)
@@Avionyx ah dang ok :/
Happen to know if there's any external SSD that can run games like an internal hard drive?
Thanks for the quick reply
No problem! It's been a while since I created this video and did this procedure of mine but last I recall you can't play any game off an actual external. I think there are legit compatible hard drives out there now that you might be able to do that with.
My son lives with me and his mom every other week. He has PS4 consoles in both locations but still packs his preferred console and carries it back and forth because of game progress on that one console. What would be the best process for him to not have to pick and carry a console back and forth? Preferably save game progress to the cloud or USB stick or external HD. Any prerequisites e.g. same PS Network login on both consoles or any restrictions on functionality?
Thanks!
Yes, he would just need to bring a USB stick (to repeatedly save the save game data) and the game disc (if game not downloaded). Same PS login is only required when playing games that were purchased and downloaded.
@@Avionyx what is the typical size for games' save files (what usb stick memory size would be appropriate?) he plays approx different 4-5 games in the same period.
I'm not quite sure, but I think a 64gb should suffice. Doesn't hurt to get a 128gb as well though lol
@@Avionyx thanks! I'll get a 64GB to start with and if I remember I'll post findings here.
You are the man!
So basically if my friend let me borrow a ps4 game and I want to copy the disc on to the drive .. I won't be able to play it straight from the drive with out having the disc inserted on my ps5?
@@Avionyx wait really?, I thought Physical data transfer also work on game drive, cause my PS4 doesn't have enough space both digital and physical. Deleting it over and over is a hassle and might affect the hard drive and laser.
What if I play the game on a PS4 from an external storage. I downloaded the game onto the same PS4 I am trying to play on. Will it still make me start over?
I'm not sure. I'm guessing it's going to pick up right where you left off on the PS4 if the save game data is there.
Hey bro i still don't get the difference between usb 2.0 and usb 3.0, is it linked only to the type of the usb cable? Or the hdd type?
I already have a 1tb hdd idk if the problem is from the hdd or the cable type.
It works perfectly fine in laptops, tvs,etc..
But ps4 wants usb 3.0, is it referring to the hdd or the cable?
It's referring to the hard drive, and then use the USB cable that came with the hard drive or something similar.
A hard drive with USB 2.0 cannot read/write data as fast as a hard drive with a USB 3.0
Correct cable must be used to. A USB 2.0 cable has a regular white rectangle in it while a USB 3.0 cable has a blue rectangle in the plug.
Same goes for the USB port that the plug is being connected to... blue USB plug into a blue USB port. If you use a white USB plug in a blue USB port, it's going to run at USB 2.0 read/write speeds.
@@Avionyx I'm guessing even the speed is faster in a usb 2.0 port with a hard drive 3.0?
I would get an SSD the HDDs do tend to have a higher failure rate
So if I'm playing The Last of Us off the hard drive it won't save my game data??
It will. It will always save the save game data to the internal hard drive of the console. You will just have to copy/transfer to a thumbstick and then plug it into the other console and copy/transfer to that console and then you can pick up playing where u left off at
@@Avionyx thanks. I just meant the Ps4, don't have the pS5 as of yet.
I am able to see all my games from ps4 external drive on my Ps5 screen but when I go to play the game it starts me from the beginning?
You need to put the PS4 save game data onto a USB stick and then plug that USB stick into front USB port of the PS5 and then copy the save game data into the PS5 internal and then you can continue your game
My ps4 is being initialized as we speak and I can’t seem to stop it , I tried pulling the plug but when I put the plug back it it started just initializing again
Great❤
thanks!
The title is wrong, it's "portable" not "external", they completely different things. External is a drive that requires an AC power and Portable is powered via USB from the device is is connected to. Very misleading.
W
HDD is slow
I needed this video thank you for making it. Genius
No problem!
