Incredible video. The amount of research you did is impressive. Everything is neatly structured. Your review is fair. Thank you so much for your great work. I went through the same process (just discovered your video at the end of mine 🙂) and came to the same conclusion which in our case makes us lean toward Monday. Just to mention (since features are evolving quickly) that Monday now offers comments directly on pictures (looks exactly the same as Clickup) and videos.
What many were waiting for from you Layla. Monday has been heavily branded and become more known that ClickUp. But, the question is: which one is better? Thank you, Layla!
Starting using ClickUp at the beginning of 2022. Truly enjoy all the features, integrations, and onboarding process. Working with a small design agency, the unlimited space combined with assignable specific comments on images and videos is what really sold me. The bugs are annoying, but like you mentioned, they have yet to truly interrupt my workflow. I plan to reevaluate for 2023, so I hope they plan to put all that money to good use. Cheers!
We will probably choose clickup because of the Record option and it seems good for a design organization. Also, a project portfolio or "overview" is essential as we have more than a dozen clients at any given time between our verticals. Will still test Monday however. Thanks for the time & effort breaking it all down.
This was really extremely helpful! I"m trying to choose between these tools for personal development, and your summary made the decision easy. Much appreciated!😊
Great breakdown! I was an avid Monday user back at my last company, but tried ClickUp a few months back after watching your videos. I found ClickUp to be extremely clunky and not all that intuitive. My thought is, if I need to spend a bunch of time just learning the tool vs. being able to drop in and go, it's not agile enough for my workflow. I honestly would love to see you showcase Monday on your channel and am interested why you chose to stick with just ClickUp for the time being? I think both tools have their respected use cases and being able to provide your audience an in-depth look at both would help incredibly helpful.
@@LinhLinh-fn1tu Monday now has Whiteboards, and I think it does a bit more with adding embedded boards into docs...but I don't use them even in ClickUp, I tend to say with Google docs.
Hey! Just getting caught up on comments🙈 We have started adding a few other project management platforms into the mix, and there's certainly more to come!
Before watching your videos (Part 1 and Part 2), I knew that I was going to select Monday. However, after seeing all of the features that ClickUp offers and knowing that I have more flexibility as a freelancer, my final decision is ClickUp. Kudos to your for the thorough review. These videos are incredible! And yes, I do believe that your UA-cam channel should continue speaking on ClickUp over Monday. I feel your passion translate through the screen when you talk about ClickUp. 😊
Great comprehensive review. I think i'll stick with Clickup, it's not necessarily as intuitive when you first start but it's so powerful ! thanks for your channel. keep it up!
Layla, SUCH a beautiful soul. And a job very very well done. Not boring AT ALL (and I watch a lot of these types of videos) Really thorough yet concise, unbiased reviews. Massive thumbs up from me. Thank you for your hard work and dedication ♥ Edit: I'm opting for ClickUp using your affiliate link!
For me it was dependencies - In Monday it seems that you can only make things dependent based on date - not if a project is done. I also like the file structure in ClickUp and being able to group lists into folders.
Monday makes you work much harder on automations for things that should be built in. I understand it, because they wanna get you to upgrade as the standard plan is 250 automations which you’ll deplete really fast. But ClickUp comes with things built in that are just much easier. Prime example is group by X. Which can be group by Status for example. In monday you’ll need an automation while in ClickUp it’s built in, doesn’t take anything from the amount of automations or anything like that…. Just straight up easy and available.
Excellent videos here. Objective. I like Monday but u r right. I want to punish them for the pricing nonsense. Great designers but incompetent mgmt and product mgmt.
Thanks for the vids Layla. After trying out Monday again this week to see if it can give me the high level, multi-project timeline planning I need...it looks like I'll be sticking with Clickup. Monday almost had me over the line, but it looks like you can't schedule tasks in the timeline or gannt views, you have to give them dates on board view first, which defeats the whole purpose for me.
Nope! I don't recommend folks use ClickUp Docs. 😅 There are a few reasons for that but, most heavily, it's because Docs have been unreliable and, even personally, I've lost substantial amounts of unrecoverable information due to ClickUp Doc's bugs over the years. 😟 More on that here: ua-cam.com/video/iwl_iq_45qE/v-deo.html There have been some improvements since this video, though, so if we were to make it again it definitely warrants a mention!
It was a really weird feeling... Logging into ClickUp for the first time, not really having spent much time going through any sales pitch or feature list. but immediately i got this overwhelming sense of ClickUp being unlike anything out there, and as if the system was formulated by a panel of scientists and UX visionaries. It just feels right, and not like so many of these other often over-simplified, and generic, and feature-bankrupt alternatives out there. This is not a product was not designed to be a contender in the manegerie of productivity & wf tools, but rather as a unique and intricate creation that cant be constrained to any one category. it is rather tragic how USD has doubled i value in just past 3 months, some companies have even begun implementing regional-based pricing or discounts for the venezuelas, and south africas of the world. But if at some point, we can afford to splash a bit, ClickUp will be my first stop ^^
Has anyone else experienced ClickUp to be unreliable in speed, functionality and very buggy? I LOVE the capabilities it offers, but almost nothing I've made in our Workspace functions properly out of the box. Automations I make that are saved in templates do not copy over completely. I have to reset constantly. I can't be the only one...

Man. I'm starting to think that the next step up for us is a "practice management" software solution that I have been avoiding. (We're a small, high-volume, niche accounting/bookkeeping firm). I've never been able to justify the time it would take to learn and then fully utilize CU (and Monday just confuses me). The SINGLE feature that initially got us to click up is the ability to create tasks from emails (INCLUDING the attachments). That feature alone allowed us to grow by 20%. But now we've grown to the point that CU is almost an annoyance (especially on those days when it gets pouty and just won't work). But even that feature feels "half-built". I've avoided PM programs b/c they're tax heavy (and we don't do taxes), and force me to change the way I interact with clients. I don't know. I still don't know which way to lean. Ah well, still enjoyed the comparison and video. Thanks Layla.
I agree completely with you babe. For now Clickup makes everything cool. Something interesting I found is that you cannot conect task in secuence inside a Gantt view in Monday as you can in Clickup; in construction, that feature is very important. - - Niche job sweetheart!
Hey Howard! If you're referring to Clip, the short answer is, "No one knows!" (Ha!) ClickUp stores the file by the URL but, if you delete it or lose the link, there is currently NO way to find the file again. There's talk about this changing in the future, but we don't know when!
Very good and quite neutral comparison. The many bugs in Clickup but also the poor performance (not to mention the very poor mobile app) have certainly made some users switch to other apps. Monday was always too expensive for me, I didn't know that there is now also a free plan! I'll definitely have another look at it. I no longer use Clickup myself because of the many problems and the lack of a (usable) mobile app.
Layla, what would you use for content planning? Notion, ClickUp, Trello or just a note-taking app like Evernote/Craft in combination with a task manager?
Hey Frank! If it was just me, I’d probably use a whiteboard for planning and Notion for doing. With a team, I’d use whatever tool was already familiar - in our case, ClickUp. With a team and a blank slate…I’d probably be looking at SmartSuite, actually. I like that they bring the database elements of Notion but with more team oriented restrictions and interface.
I dont think that monday has less features. It has the ability to be simple or complex depending on what you want. I couldn't stand clickup-the learning curve was insane and nothing was explained properly. Monday's support got back to me 24/7 and were 100% transparent about everything even bugs that I found. Clickup also looks like a 12 year old learned to throw together a nice PowerPoint. The design is quite bland. More like "click away" if you ask me. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. A simpler solution is worth more money if that money equals easier productivity an quicker results.
I'm using Monday now for the forms. I have both forms on my website, and hands down, the UI on Monday just looks so much better. Now with the lack of support from ClickUp, I'm weighing in the next three months to see if I need to just switch.
Sadly, ClickUp bugs are stopping us from doing our work. For example, my helpline team can't see any content on their mobile device to work in the field. Also, they stopped customer service (chat), which was one of the selling points for me. So Monday is looking better. We have changed out our forms using Monday now and using it for volunteer signups. I loved ClickUp, but now, the company has changed so much, with access to support, and the prices have gone up by 25%
I hear you Adrienne. 🫤 Mobile usability and bugs continue to cause headaches - especially if the features you need are most impacted. It’s been a journey. I can only say I hope ClickUp 3.0 changes things OR another tool fills the need - because there’s definitely a sweet spot sitting in between these two tools.
@@LaylaPomper Me too. I finally learned how to set up relationships and roll-ups for our helpline. I love it! So, a Journey is so on point. 🙂 It took me a year to finally go with ClickUp, so I'm trying to give it time. I miss the support chat feature, though! Thanks for your videos; I love them!
