    That's answer is the Swiss being frustratingly Swiss - lol. My *Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Auto 42mm: H70545560* also has the H-10 movement. It has no day/date complications. It a, less is more watch. It runs around one second fast every three days. The simplicity and toughness of the watch makes it a joy to wear.

    Purchased this watch a few days ago and I'm so glad I did. I have a small wrist and this fits perfectly it's well made and looks really nice no matter what you wear it with.

      I’m just curious, what’s your definition of a small wrist? I only ask because I’m about 5’10 and average build, and I’m looking to get this watch as well and I’m curious if I should go with the 42 or the 38 mm.

    I just watched the whole video and I have to say I am appalled at their attitude and shadiness with the movement.
    But you have to be one of the most honest reviewers and a true refreshing on yt

      The whole watch industry is a little weird, they're typically not very forthcoming with information, and it's a little annoying. I tried to find out what the lift angle for the new movement in the Orient Bambino is, this is just a number such as 52 degrees that you use when testing the watch on a timegrapher. They told me they don't disclose that information!?!?!?

    If you still have the watch, a Review after 7 years would be interesting.

    I have Hamilton Khaki Scuba Diver Ceramic model with H10 movement and it settled down after 3 weeks to -1 sec/day (from initial +3 sec). I would say H10 is a great swiss movement!

  • @TillSwims

    The movement is a 25 jewel Powermatic 80 version .
    The regular Powermatic 80 has 23 jewels like seen in the Tissot PRX .

    the ONLY things I can find wrong with this watch are the domed crystal and polished bezel, the crystal because it decreases legibility with all the reflections, and the polished bezel for a field watch doesn't make sense as they make the part most exposed to scratches polished.
    but other than that, a perfect field watch

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  7 років тому +2

      The crystal could definitely be clearer. The Seiko Flightmaster SNA411, which I reviewed previously, has a domed crystal that I love. This one, it's ok, but it isn't perfect.

    That is truly a beautiful watch, perhaps the most iconic field watch of all time. It certainly gives the Seiko Alpinist (my favorite field watch) a run for its money. Some people have argued that a lower beat rate reduces the overall wear on the movement and increases it's durability, although it comes at the expense of accuracy (and that's pretty debatable). For instance, the Omega coaxial movement was reduced by one beat per second to increase it's durability.

      Bacchus Leto - I find the alpinist's dial a little too 'busy'. The clean simplicity of this Hamilton is more faithful to its utilitarian military predecessors and therefore a clear winner for me.

    Great review mate. I'm pretty sure this is the one for me. My local Hamilton dealer doesn't have the 38mm in stock but has offered to get one - now I can inspect it and know what to look for. I want the longer power reserve as I remove my watch frequently for various hobbies and work. I could solve this with a quartz movement of course but I much prefer the look of a sweep. Cheers.

    Mine is a later movement to yours. Ive no idea what it is. It has a stylised 'H' on the automatic weight. I love this watch BUT mine came with the stainless bracelet. It only has 2 micro ajustments on the clasp. With 2 links out, its too tight. With one link out, it was too loose. I bought a NATO strap for it and it has transformed the way the watch looks. 😊

    I purchased a new version off this model in late September this year black leather strap, I do like the look but I’m not impressed as my rotor spins when I manual wind. I have only worn this watch for one week soon after I got it, though I have wound it once a week. I did hear you mention that some say you should not hand wind. I’d would like Hamilton to comment on this. Mine appears to be the H10 with a reference C07611 on the movement. I will be returning mine to the dealer for repair or replacement this week. Any comments would be appreciated.

    So how is the H10 movement upgraded from the 2824? Increase power reserve is cool but what other benefits do they have? Hopefully this movement has longer service intervals, but this movement from what I hear is made of cheaper materials thus increasing their profit.

    Im thinking about buying a Hamilton Khaki Field H70455533 but not sure which movement is better? H-10 or eta2824-2

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  7 років тому +2

      I don’t think they’re using the 2824 anymore so if you’re buying new you have no choice it will come with the H10. That said you can track down an older preowned watch of course. Regarding which is better I don’t think it’s a binary answer. Neither is bad, both are good despite their very minor differences. I’d be fine with either.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  7 років тому +1

      I’ve always gotten everything with the watches I’ve bought from them, but they are grey market so the manufacturer warranty card is blank and they won’t honor the warranty. That said the watches are all authentic to the best of my knowledge and I don’t have any concern over that.

I checked out other Swatch offerings such as the Hamilton Khaki Navy Pioneer H7771553 and the Tissot Powermatic 80, but this Khaki Field might be the one for me. Nice review man. Looking into a military heritage style watch as my next pick up, choosing between this or the Marathon GSAR Medium Auto. I have a Squale 1521 with the ETA 2824-2 and I LOVE the smoother sweep. My rotation is pretty small so 80 hour reserve is overkill for me. I'm pretty sure there's a 28000vph version which I personally would go for.

      TheSupercarGeek I've never seen the sary057 in person, but my guess is they are similar in quality to a Sarb033? @JustBlueFish  8 років тому +4

      I don't know that I've seen a 28.8k or higher beat watch so I probably don't know what I'm missing. That said, I do like that I can put the watch down and it will be running 2 days later. None of my other automatic watches can do that!

    • @kristenburnout1
      @kristenburnout1 8 років тому +2

      Well, as you said the old version had 28000, and the smoother sweep is quite noticable. However, the power reserve is really impressive! :) I don't really get why they would remove the normal regulator though. In my country, there are no Hamilton dealers, so I wonder if I could get it regulated if it was off. :/

  • @ricocaigoy109
    @ricocaigoy109 6 років тому +1

    Last question and I apologize because it is not related to the watch in review. This is about service maintenance of automatic watches. I've been reading lately on how to properly maintain an automatic watch and this servicing maintenance always comes up as an advice. Experts say automatic watches need servicing every 5 years (actually some say every 3 years). How can a consumer be assured that a new watch he bought doesn't need servicing already? I mean, what if the watch was assembled/manufactured more than 5 years ago. I believe this is one of the reason why newly bought unused watch suddenly becomes defective. How can the consumer be protected from this? I hope some of your viewer can join this discussion. Thank you.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 років тому

      Well the best way to be protected is to purchase from an authorized dealer and get a warranty from the manufacturer with your watch. That's why I usually buy my Hamilton watches from Topper Jewelers. You can also ask them how long the watch has been sitting in their inventory, and an honest company like Topper will tell you. If you buy grey market, you'll have no way of knowing for sure. That said if a watch has been sitting for a while it's still most likely fine. When they say a watch needs service every 5 years, that's if you've been wearing it and it's been running for all that time. A watch that has been sitting and not running shouldn't really have any issues, other than perhaps the lubrication getting dried up, but modern oils and greases shouldn't have a problem from sitting in an idle watch for months or even years, I wouldn't think.

      I got one for Christmas too! I've actually had it on my wrist for a month now as my wife was kind enough to let me have it early after I convinced her wearing it early would give enough time to replace it if there were any problems ;-) I absolutely love it and it's the only watch that's kept my Speedmaster Pro off my wrist for longer than a week. Mine is running at -2 seconds per day consistently which is truly amazing. I've taken to setting it 10 seconds fast so over 20 days use it's no more than +/-10 seconds out. The accuracy drops to about -5 seconds per day when it is left to wind down a bit but when it stays wound on my wrist I'm getting that 2 second accuracy which is fantastic performance for a mechanical watch at this price. All mechanical movements have their own "personality" like this. Fantastic size, beautiful design and good quality construction and finish. As you can probably tell I am super pleased with it! I hope you enjoy wearing yours, you made a great choice. People have a lot of love for this range of Hamilton watches.

      I think it was 48mm if I remember correct but I will double check tomorrow and let you know if I remember.

    There are no plastic parts if you research further... I think. Mines +/- 4 seconds? Not completely sure, but crazy accurate; I know that is not the norm. I can leave it for 3 days on my desk, still charged:) H-10 is an upgrade. It is a huge company, so the reply you got does not surprise me at all. This is why most of my watches are from dynamic microbrands like Vaer. Ironically, by quoting their cut and paste answer, your youtube transcript will perpetuate that online. Online information is like water; it takes the path of least resistance, so most large websites will cut and paste info from each other. That's Hamilton and the Swatch group protecting their product.
    Oh, nothing not masculine about a 36mm or 37mm. People these days over compensate. My Dad's Korean War watch was under 36mm. I really like the watch, but the larger band holes, thickness of the band, and hole spacing, makes the band not usable for me.

      It's definitely more than enough power reserve. Great for those days you don't wear the watch but want to know it's going to be running the next time you pick it up.

    Having a 17 cm wirst which hamilton would recommend me the 38mm or the 42 mm version? Great video!

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  8 років тому +1

      Jorge González My wrist is about 18cm and I am very happy with the 38mm watch case. The 42mm would probably be fine, but maybe a little on the large size. I'd suggest the 38mm, but I have other watches with 42mm cases that wear just fine. I guess it depends on if you like to wear a little larger watches or not.

      Cool I will try both of them and I will decide. I asked you because I read that this watch has long handles so it looks bigger. thank you!

    I had just unboxed this watch and began to wear it. I was really excited but confused by the back markings like you were. As I was watching your video, the watch stopped. I hadn't had the watch 15 minutes and it quit working. The back of the second hand was catching on the minute hand causing it to stop completely. Really disappointed they let something like that slip.

      That sucks, sorry to hear about your having a problem with your Hamilton. I hope you are able to return or replace it with the vendor you purchased it from. It's a great watch that I'm sure you'll love, if it was working correctly!

      JustBlueFish I'm exchanging it for another. Pretty sure it's just a one off, but disappointed in Hamilton quality control letting that get out with such a stupid failure. Great video!

    I have heard (I have NO idea if this is true…please, anyone who knows, chime in) that the 25 jewel H-10 has no plastic balance wheel or balance fork. The 23 jewel H series HAS PLASTIC PARTS….Guess which? Yep, balance wheel & balance fork. How disingenuous :-( The entire lack of regulator cock is in place to intentionally force the customer to return the watch….to Switzerland . The constant drum beat of 80 HOURS OF RESERVE POWER!!! is ridiculous. I could rant on but I do not blame Hamilton. This is 💯Swatch Group. Understand what you’re buying. Thank you Sir for an awesome vid. Made me think! All of the above is imho only. An opinion. GBU All

    • @helderSilva77
      @helderSilva77 7 років тому

      I say because the originals have a number at 3 o'clock and in the middle of the dial there are rotating points and also at the rear the dial of the automatic dial is screwed

    • @helderSilva77
      @helderSilva77 7 років тому

      But seeing well I had to see on the official page and the dial is identical to yours!
      It is aversion of 42 millimeters that the dial is different !.
      I was confused now !
      Sorry

      @@nan1064 Yeah, what a stupid comment! He could have found out the watch is correct with about a minute on google. Up till now you can find these watches with 3 different sizes, 2 different movements and two different Hamilton logo cutouts depending on the age of the movement, and finally there are 2 differently engraved case backs, all of them genuine and correct. Hamilton likes to change these things from time to time for some reason. But no, bozo up there just announces it's a fake, just like that.

    Common Sense 101: When making a purchase decision, establish what is important to you about the item (i.e. appearance, function, collectability, accuracy, etc..) Then, find the information of interest. Finally, make a decision based on your evaluation.
    Apparently, your decision was heavily weighted based on appearance. If the movement was important you, you could have returned it if you immediately inspected it when it arrived.

      It's funny that it's a feature I actually like about the watch. It's utilitarian looking, easy to manipulate and I could not be happier with mine. On a reddit thread on the watch recently, a few people said how they really liked the oversized crown too. It's totally in the eye of the beholder ultimately.

    A $350 watch with a delicate crown that I can't use....and why should I not just buy a Seiko again?????

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  7 років тому +1

      Angel Cortez to be fair the crown being a point of weakness may just be an over exaggerated internet rumor. I suspect that it's less of an issue then people make it out to be. I only included it in the discussion as a datapoint for people to research when deciding if they want to own a Hamilton.

      I understand your point. I guess that to me if I am going to pay twice to three times as much as a Seiko is worth I expect the same or a greater reliability. I live the look of the watch though. I have been on the fence to buy one for more than a year but it's too expensive for me.
