AGV Tourmodular helmet review - we test AGV's new flipfront touring lid

- AGV's Tourmodular is their distance-friendly flipfroint helmet that marks a big change in the design stakes from AGVs that have gone before. It meets the latest safety standards, has the option to integrate Cardo communications and is an important helmet for AGV. Can it cut it against the market leaders in the premium flip-up helmet category?
We spent several hundred miles wearing one so let us run through the main features and how it performs on the road.
NOTE: In this video we say the AGV Insyde comms unit's connection was not as reliable as we'd like. Viewers have correctly pointed out the microphone had been installed wrongly and since correcting that we've found the connection much more reliable. When installing, the yellow arrow on the mic needs to be facing the rider's mouth.

Your videos are pure class. Straight to the point and always honest. Thank you SBS.
Great review as always. Always good to hear a detailed real world review.
Enjoyed your vid Sir, I have been looking at these helmets for weeks. I will try one on this week, if it fits then I will have it...
Superb helmet, had it one week and first impressions are very good, one of the few helmets I’ve had that was comfy from the start. Just need to save up for the integrated comms system, in the mean time there’s plenty of room for my Packtalk Bold. Great ventilation, quiet and superb vision due to the wide aperture.
Can you fit a universal comm fine? I've got this helmet on order (will be delivered in the next few days) and I'm wanting to fit my Sena 30k
I brought a Shuburth C5 with commas and regret it! It leaks and I get a bad pressure in the top back of my head.
My wife was holding my helmet and dropped it on the concrete floor which has distorted the flip front and leaves a big gap when in the closed position.
I’m now looking for a new helmet but I’m staying away from shuberth and Shoei Neotec. This Agv is ticking the boxes for me.
A trip to Boston Sportsbike shop this morning!
Thank you for you honest reviews ( you said the Shuberth c5 leaked)
Great review. It would be nice to see a comparison between new ECE 22.06 modular helmets.
I use a Cardo, and also noticed what others have already noticed…the yellow arrow on the mic has to be facing your mouth. 😉
Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹.
Thanks for the suggestion, Miguel. I'll add it to our board of ideas for the future. Cheers, Tony
Excellent review as usual, very thorough. I have a question if any kind soul can answer it it would be very appreciated: is it difficult to keep the matt finish clean on this helmet? I once had a matt black bike and it was a nightmare, fingerprints and various kind of smudges were very noticeable and annoying. Thanks in advance!
It's not difficult as such, but in my experience you need to stay on top of cleaning a bit more as rotting bugs will spoil a matt finish sooner than they will a gloss finish. I just use a visor cleaner spray, or plain water, and a microfibre cloth. I've also had good results from Putoline RS1 Wax Polish in the past (spray on the cloth rather than direct to the shell) as it leaves a coating that makes cleaning easier. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
Hi Tony,
Nice review
Could you please comment on the sizing, front to back, is there enough room for the chin or it is kind of short?
I found it very annoying when my chin touches the front of the chinbar
Thank you
It's not the roomiest I've tried, though not one that made me feel closed-in. Definitely worth a try-on if that's a particular issue for you. Cheers, Tony
I love watching your reviews. Straight and to the point.
How does this fit compared to a K6?
I currently have a K6 and I am seriously looking at this to replace it. Is it true to size as I wear a M/L 59cm so the L should be the same, or do I need to move down to a Medium?
Thanks, and apologies for the delayed reply. The fit is quite different to the K6 as there's no M/L option in the Tourmodular. I wore a M/L in the K6 and it was too loose (I got a little bit of flak in the comments on the review for that). I wore a medium in the Tourmodular. I think if your K6 is very snug on you then a large is the way to go for the Tourmod. If you have some room in your K6 then you may well be able to drop to a medium. Always best to make the smaller size the starting point for try-ons in my opinion. I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony
6:07 the last time I heard about the addition strap is on the Schuberth
Yes, it's mostly been a Schuberth thing. I also noticed something last week...there's a very similar system on the Caberg Duke 2 and updated Duke X. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
Great review , but you fitted the boom mic on the cardo the wrong way around , the yellow triangle should point towards your mouth , this may be why you could not be heard when talking , great review though as always.
Thanks Craig. Yes, definitely my error there and I've added something to the description to try and address it. I've tried again with the mic positioned correctly, and it is better. Cheers, Tony
Great review. I wear a Neotec and due to replace it due to age.
Shortlist was Neotec 2 or the Schubert C5 but this is now a serious contender if I can find a local dealer so that I can try one for fit etc.
In your opinion is this as good as the Shoei please?
Thanks,
Peter
Hi Peter, Thanks for getting in touch. I think the Shoei is a bit better on finish and build quality, but the newer ECE 22.06 rating is a plus point for the AGV. You're right to try and get your hands on them both (and a C5 too) before making a decision as fit for you is the most important factor. In that sense I guess the Shoei has a head start (no pun intended, honest!) as you have experience of that shape already. If your UA-cam handle is a giveaway then our Bristol store will be your closest and they carry stock of all three. Cheers, Tony
Tony, in your written review, I read that the comm system between you and your Mrs. with the PackTalk Bold may have been due to an incorrect mic installation. You mentioned that you'd update the review once it was corrected. Have you found an answer to the issue? Thank you.
Hi Mark, Yes - I've updated the description for the video to explain how it improved considerably once I started speaking into the correct side of the microphone. It just needs the yellow arrow on the mic to be facing the mouth and all is much better. I've also now updated the written review to explain the issue and the solution. Cheers, Tony
An interesting video, I currently have a sportmodular, which I love, aside from in really bad rain, it allows water down the inside of the visor as it does not sit tight against the seal at the top.
You mentioned you rode in the rain in the tourmodular, did you have the same issue at any point?
Thanks
Russ
Hi Russ, No problems to report from my time with this lid. I didn't ride in heavy rain, though. So this morning I've done a test for you and given the lid a shower with a hosepipe. The seal withstood a six-minute dousing that gave me confidence it would survive a very heavy amount of rain in use. The top seal is a serious design that seems very effective. I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop , Tony thanks for your reply, I may have to pop over to Kirton to have a look at one. Cheers Russ
Thanks for the video! Nice lid, but is it just me or the mic's capsule is on backwards? Shouldn't the yellow arrow face the rider's mouth? Also, having the boom on the right side seems wierd, you'd have to use your right hand to adjust it. If with the 06 standard we're moving more towards integrated comms, I hope helment manufacturers put a lot more thought into them...
Thanks for getting in touch about this. My mistake there and I will try the lid again with the microphone orientated correctly. As for the boom being on the right, it did seem odd at first sight but it was never a problem in use and I could adjust it on the go with my left hand still. Thanks again. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop have you tried again with the mic the right way?
@@kidluk Yes, and it has improved matters considerably. It's still not perfect, but it is far easier to make myself heard and the connection is more stable now. You live and learn I guess - and I'll put an update in the description for the video.
@@sportsbikeshop Thanks for the reply. It’s a helmet I’m considering when it becomes available here
hey mate, love your vids btw do you know what head shape this helmet will accommodate? im a intermediate oval
Hey, thanks. There's nothing listed for the interior shape, but as an intermediate oval I'd say you're in a good position with this helmet. I'm a roundhead and it's very slightly narrower than would be ideal, so worth a go as an intermediate. Cheers, Tony
Hi. I think your problems your the voice intercom are coming from the mic. I think it's mounted backwards. The yellow arrow should be facing at your mouth, not the other way around. That's the normal Cardo mic position.
Thanks for your video.
Regards.
Thank you for getting in touch to point that out. I'll give the Tourmodular/Insyde system another go with the yellow arrow pointing at me and see if that rectifies the issue. Cheers, Tony
I've now had the chance to test this over the last couple of days and the Insyde system works much better with the arrow pointing in the correct direction (as you suggested it would). It's still not as clear as other units we've used recently, but it is a big improvement. Thanks again for getting in touch to steer me in the right direction, and I'll be adding something to the video description about my comments on the Insyde unit. Cheers, Tony
How does it compre with the Schubert C5? I have a Shoei X-Spirit3 and looking for a new lids as it’s been 7 years…. Thinking of a flip… I’m at that age now :-)
The C5 is better ventilated and I would say it's a bit sportier than the Tourmodular. I'd say it'd be a smaller leap from the Shoei to the Schuberth than to the AGV. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop many thanks
Hello, lovely review. Question for everyone, can I not use let's a lexin b4fm with my tour modular? Is it only compatible with the Agv insyde and other cardo comm systems? Would appreciate if someone could help me out with this :)
If the intercom comes with a sticky mount then I think you'll find a place to put it on a Tourmodular. If it relies on a clamp sliding between the shell and the EPS liner then I think you would have to modify the helmet and I don't recommend doing that. Will be interested to see what others say on fitting comms to a Tourmodular. Cheers, Tony
thank you for this test. which is better between the Schuberth C5 or the AGV tour modular ? thank you
Hi Jean-Yves. My personal opinion - the Schuberth is slightly better in most aspects. I reviewed the C5 in deep winter and the Tourmodular in high summer so it is impossible to say which would deal better with all weather conditions, though. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
I tried on a sport modular and the chin bar was too close to my mouth. Is there more room in the tourmodular?
Sorry Scott, I have no experience of the Sportmodular to be able to compare it with the Tourmodular. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
Hi Scott, hope you dont mind me stepping in. I have tried both and there is definitely more room in the chin on the tourmodular. The issue I had with the sportmodular was that my chin touched the inside and closing it was a bit of an effort. However no such problems with this helmet.
How would you rate this against they shoei equivalent
It's a while since I wore the Shoei so a direct head-to-head isn't possible. I feel the Shoei is ahead on build quality and finish, but the AGV's certification to 22.06 is a big plus point, as is the anti-roll-off system. The biggest factor, as always, is how well they suit your head shape. I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony
@@sportsbikeshop thanks for coming back to me Tony, appreciate it. I’ve got the mark 1 shoei and due for replacement so I’ve got the short list down to the mark 2 shoei and the AGV. I give them both a whirl. Cheers.
No one seems to talk about headshape with this helmet…. It’s definitely holding me back from purchasing, as it’s not available locally. As a point of reference the Simpson mod bandit fits PERFECTLY. However, I want something with integrated discreet comms.
I'd love a central reference point for head shape, and to be able to say 'if this fits you then this will/won't', but I've found it doesn't really work that way. My head shape seems particularly unusual, which makes mine a terrible reference point anyway! Cheers, Tony
7:25 your microphone is fitter wrong!!!!!! Yellow arrow must be facing your mouth!!!!
Indeed, as mentioned in the description. I got it wrong, and have done my best to rectify. Cheers, Tony
Looks oversized
In terms of external, or internal size? This is a medium and it is definitely the correct fitment for me. Cheers, Tony
