  • @MyBackHurtsALittle

    This one is way better than other tutorials on this song...sounds more realistic. For my guitar/string setup, the open hi e is ringing too high especially on Dsus2 so I may be just lightly brushing that top string. On his guitar this is working though.

    Try tuning hi E down to a D then use capo 2 on all 6 strings... this sounds better on my guitar. For Dsus4 (which is rare in this version), you'll need to stretch pinky up 2 frets on hi e.

      Hey man, thanks for checkin out my vids. Tbh most of my lessons are for post beginners, but there are plenty of tutorials for absolute newbies on UA-cam. Check out Justin Sendeco, he does a really good beginners course & his teaching is sound.
      Once you've mastered the basic chords you'll be able to understand a lot of my tutorials. I'm not really a fan of James Arthur (or any talent show celebs really) so I doubt I'll ever make a lesson for one of his songs.

    Love your videos but i think the pattern of this, is not right.

  • @SevenElevenGuitars
    @SevenElevenGuitars 3 роки тому

    Nice Video, good tutorial. But there's a little mistake, it's not a Dsus2, because the high e'-string isn't capoed. It's a D5 (sounding E5 -> Capo: e-b-e-e = root, 5, root/octave, root/octave)

    • @DefinitelyDean
      @DefinitelyDean  2 роки тому

      When using a capo we always go with the shape to avoid confusion i.e. a G chord on campo 2 is technically an A, but will always be referred to as a G. It would be too confusing to give the technically correct chord names. 👍

    • @SevenElevenGuitars
      @SevenElevenGuitars 2 роки тому

      @@DefinitelyDean yes, you're right. We use same names for chords as if we had no capo on. But the high e-string isn't capoed, that's why one single note has changed (no F# still E). If you play a Dsus2 shape now it's NOT the sus2 colour that you hear. That's the mistake.

  • @Herecomeoleflattop
    @Herecomeoleflattop 4 роки тому

    And you play a Seagull! Great guitar eh? They really hold tune well. But for this song, I don't know man, you're just not doing it right. The strumming pattern is way off. Sorry for the critique.

    • @DefinitelyDean
      @DefinitelyDean  4 роки тому +1

      Seagull guitars are great! The cherry back & sides on this S6 give it a rich tone, and the clarity from the spruce top make it sound amazing (plus the wide neck makes it super easy to play)👌
      With regards to the strumming, I tend to naturally put my own spin on rhythms by default, and I encourage all of my private students to do the same. I understand you want to make the song sound exactly like to original, but putting your stamp on a song is the essence of rhythm guitar (this is why I rarely teach the exact rhythms in my videos).
      My main aim is to give accurate chords & help with the timing & transitions. My best advice when it comes to strumming patterns is to use a simple template to start with, then use your ear to create the sound you want to achieve. I hope this makes sense ✌️
