Nil, I did my outline by the songs. Each major scene is defined by the song in it. But the inspiration for this is how the music brought me into this fandom. The fan made music is INSANELY good. So of course, I need to make a broadway style five nights at Freddy’s musical.
Question: I wanna start working right away but I know it will take some time to contact the author of the original work and especially for them to respond… should I wait or can I begin and just not publish ANYTHING?
Good question! You're going to want some material with you to approach the conversation when you get to speak to the rights holder, so I wouldn't totally wait. Go through your planning process, outline, song spot, answer your North Star Questions, and even write some sample songs and dialogue. That would be my advice at least!

If it works for you and you're storytelling, then great!
this is really useful, I've wanted to adapt one of my favorite stories for a while!
I'm thrilled to hear it! Let me know how the process goes
