- In this episode I share with you an update on my current reef and also discuss my 2019 build plans for a custom 150 gallon sps dominant reef. That mixed ref is amazing. The acans are fantastic, torch looks great. You have a lot of growth in the tank. Run some carbon and keep those pieces that are browning a little further from each other. Hope you don’t get rid of this tank and the 150 is an add, not a replacement. Good luck.
Thanks! I would love to keep this tank but unfortunately the 150 is an upgrade to this one. I would like to try my best to preserve the rockscape but we’ll see how that works out.

Peninsula style gives you front and Back access if you set it up properly but with your sump setup the back will be hard to see and maintain.
Should have made the stand a few inches higher to give you more room. Carefully look at creating your access points for servicing and maintenance. Great job in the PowerPoint UA-cam presentation!
Thanks! I went 36 inches on the stand do you think I should have gone higher? With my sump only being 16” tall that leaves me with a 20” clearance for maintenance and inspections. Hopefully that’s enough. 👍

Thanks. I’m glad you didn’t hold your breath either. Lol! I considered going with another glass tank but a friend of mine setup a 300 gallon acrylic build and the clarity was amazing. Not to mention how easy it was to move the tank in the house.

As of right now the plan is to stick with the natural seawater but we’ll see what happens.

Nothing special as far as I know. Just a plan green polyp toadstool! 👌

The tank looks amazing. I guess that's an indo gold as the tentacle look pretty long and it looks super happy there in the flow ;)

Yes the torch is an indo called dragon soul. It’s doing great in the high flow.

Thanks! I do plan to do a small cycle but not long maybe a week. I will be using natural seawater, live rock and sand. Shouldn’t have much of an issue.

If you going to get a pinisula tank if you have it near the stairs just bare in mind you will see the stair case through the tank. If that dont bother you then its all good
Yes that was part of the design plans. My hope is that it won’t stand out. But I’m excited to be able to sit on the stairs and view the other side of the reef. We’ll see how it goes.
Hi J, what are the dimensions of your tank? I am running 2 primes on a 80 gallon 32'x24"x24" and I was wondering if that would be sufficient lighting considering everything else was on point. I would like to see my corals thrive like yours.

How much is the build? And I own a red sea but to be honest custom is sometimes more affordable I'm looking to upgrade so I'm just looking around hope you dont mind sharing the price of the build.
Thanks for the question, I don’t know that I would say going custom is more affordable more than I would say it’s an opportunity to get exactly what your looking for or a lot closer than you would for a normal reef ready setup. I think once I’m done with the entire build I can put together a budget video of some sort sharing the values and costs of everything. 👍

Which lighting are you going with?
I’m going with the Zetlight Qmaven II. We’ll see how it works out but it has pretty good specs and a great designs.
