I always assumed it was the constant vibration in the strut that was breaking the wires over twenty plus years, because they're protected from everything else and I've never seen them actually corroded.
Great video as always Joe and bloody hell that wind was blowing a gale haha

You are probably right. Unfortunately, most of the videos are done on the fly and I don't remember everything at the time I am making them. At best, I do about 30 minutes preparation and often forget stuff.

Nice a 3s youtuber. Put coilovers on my SL, its one of my favorite upgrades that and converting it to a vr-4 front end with the much bigger brakes, calipers, braided lines. Its a night and day difference.

i find it funny they charge so much for strut replacement but the job itself is pretty simple. hardest part is taking the top nut off with an impact. Or you can simplify the job further by upgrading with coilovers since ECS is usually not functioning anyway. its barely 6 bolts to swap coilovers and imo the ride upgrade is much better than the oem struts.. And they weigh a lot less. I had an mr2 were the swaybar end links were so rusted up it was impossible to take them off the way they were supposed to be removed. And i spent a lot of time cutting the nuts to be able to remove them. the 3000gt rear end links are pretty robust and dont strip like the mr2 end links. Since they are taken off using a normal wrench to hold the stud from spinning.

I tend to agree with you in most cases but to be fair to the garages, they have to pay rent, property tax, wages, insurance, tools, water and that's just the start of it. Being able to do the job yourself can save a fortune and I hope my videos help.

dam i used a nut to seperate that tie rod end. Partially install the nut and wack it with a hammer. keeps you from screwing up your threads and gives you a flat place to strike it. Came right apart.

Great video, thanks! Follow up questions: Is there a good process for fixing the brittle wires you mention that cause our suspension lights to flash? And where are you finding replacement struts with ECS. All my online searches show the front ECS shocks were discontinued. Is it possible to rebuild these or are people are switching to non-ECS struts / disabling this feature of our cars?
