  • Really interesting and powerful effect, which we've come to expect from Narset.

I'm a budget player, most of my decks are $100 or less...though I do have a lot of decks (I like building, it's a problem). I'm convinced you can build just about anything you want on a budget, but like you said, the trick is that you have to build synergistically if you want the deck to work well. Keeping it focused and trimming the fat from it really helps, as does the multiplayer nature of EDH. It can still bite when a card that costs more than your deck winds up beating you, but hey, sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't.

That bad feeling fades quickly when you get em with a $70 deck, or counter some monster card with a 15 cent card.

@@bettercommander Blowing out the table by casting Reigns of Power in response to an overloaded Cyclonic Rift is still one of my top 10 commander moments, and I have been playing since 2011.

I love using cards that others don't, especially when they're synergistic as you mention. Angelfire Ignition is a cool one!

@@bettercommander If ever anyone tries to build an Odric Vampire deck (that's the most disappointing Odric by far), Angelfire Ignition would be an auto-include to me. I did try it out in my vampire deck, but I have since focused it down more. I do use some surprising cards in that deck though. Azor's Gateway and Arguel's Bloodfast. If you can transform the gateway with 30+ life, you get 30+ mana of one color. Load that into your mana sinks and clog up the drain! My opponents were shocked and so outpaced they couldn't comeback

She reminds me of a build of Vadrik astral archmage from midnight hunt, the whole deck were the "whenever you cast an instant or sorcery this creature gets +3/+0 until end of turn"
    Wizards get swole.
This is all your creatures. And that noncreature reanimate spell is crazy. A little bit Vadrik, a little bit Vadrok. I love it.

Another bangin tech brother, she's right up my alley with spellslingy storm go wide shenanigans. Would also recommend Sorcerer Class to help power out your spells and capitalize on those tokens you're making

Nothin better than beating your friend's hack-ass $500 netdeck with a bunch of fiddy cent rares

I originally build a Talrand deck to illustrate that power doesn't always equal budget, but now the talrand deck is over $500, lol.

I am mostly a cedh player. I got very interested in $100 “budget cedh” a couple years back. It’s my favorite way to play the game.
I started playing w some guys I work w who play “high power” I figured my $100 budget decks would fit nicely in to that playgroup full of jeweled lotuses, mana crypts, and staples.
It’s not at all a fair fight. They have little chance. I was winning almost all the games and so I have had to power down.
More important than budget or access to staples is the mind set. If you are good at building decks and you have a mind for breaking whatever format you play, the casual players just can’t contend. They are infused in a culture of bad strategy and bad decks and the majority of the Edh world thinks roughly the same and they are very wrong.
Some examples; people get mad about infect and Eldrazi. That’s “too much”? Fuckin A! You are not even sniffing a win against $100 cedh decks w infect or Eldrazi.
$100 proactive decks are putting wins on the stack consistently turn 4. Sometimes faster.
The divide between cedh and “a really good Slivers deck”😂 is unfathomably large.
My point is, the budget is only really relevant amongst players who are otherwise at least close to the same level. A seasoned cedh player w a $100 budget will frog stomp casual “high power” players even when they are playing bad money piles and it isn’t especially close.
    Nice video

I agree. I won a casual game the other day with a $50 deck. Running slightly less efficient cards for a fraction of the price doesn't really matter as long as you build for synergy.
A lot of it has to do with a deeper understanding of the mechanics as well. I take every opportunity to bring newer players deeper into the rules if I can, and that CEDH mindset makes people better at casual games as well.
