I played the entire game through when it was released on steam, on my steam deck, so if anyone is wondering about that option, I can say that it ran really really well. I had no real issues to speak of. Really hope the switch version gets the updates it needs because this game is definitely something special

Played it on PC had no bugs, the game ran smoothly throughout, one of the best gaming experience I ever had in terms of everything pretty much. This game is so cozy is unbelievably good.
@@DonsFan56 I'm gonna have to disagree because it runs Mario Odyssey at 60 fps, and that game not only looks incredible but is fully 3d and has massive worlds to explore. This game is literally 2d drawings with slight shadows. I'm just as critical of Switch hardware as the next guy, but this was 100% not the problem here because we have to take a look at what could possible even tax the hardware in this game, and there's no reasonable cause.
It might come down to switch architecture. For example the PS3 could run a lot but I've heard horror stories about development for the system. They might just not know how to properly port it.
I'm so sad to hear about the performance issues but I've been looking forward to this game for so long that I think I'll still get it today. It's 10% off and a good way to support the dev team and hopefully encourage them to improve the game for us on Switch.
Started playing this earlier and I can already tell its SPECIAL. It just has so much charm and also amazing music! Its a lot of fun and a fresh take in the genre! Recommended for sure 😊
Wow, what can i say? I was very dubious about trying this as jrpgs and monster hunting games haven't been my favorite genre for, well... Decades now. But alas I've fallen in love. I'm only 15 minutes in and I'm absolutely hooked! The art style, music and game mechanics all feel fresh but oh so familiar. I'm 40 years old now and only get the chance to play games at night while the little ones asleep, but I've not felt this addicted to a game since i plopped disk one of ff7 into my ps1. This is a special little game, kudos to the devs and everyone involved.
Hmm maybe I’ll wait until this game comes further along with patches. Guess I’ll wait until Switch Up includes this game in a “Are they fixed yet” video. Great work guys
Just to provide a bit more perspective as to the current state, at the end of June, there was a patch bundled with the first DLC update that fixed most of the performance issues, and crashes seem to be much more rare.
Playing this on the steam deck right now. It’s an awesome game and deserving of its 97% positive. Please keep an eye on this one guys! If the devs can fix it, they deserve some love

The problem is Hardware based. Not because the Switch is "too weak", but because it uses the Arm architecture. Playstation, XBox and PC are all based on the same Architecture (PS5 and XBox SX even have near identical Hardware), so porting a game over is a lot easier, because there isnt changing that much. However, the Switch uses the ARM Architecture, which is commonly only used in low power devices like Smartphones, Tablets, SmartTVs, Nintendo DS devices, etc. That is because ARM is more powerefficient, which is important for a Handheld like the Switch. The downside however is that its a lot more difficult to port over games from other consoles and PC, because the Hardware differs so much. Not that the developement software is good, I have not tried it, but the Switch using ARM is for sure a big reason so many ports struggle
I love how a lot of developers are still 80's kids. Obviously it cant last but the games they've made will still have an affect on future developers thus elongate the style.

I’ve been following this one for quite some time (especially watching Gum Leader Ed here on UA-cam) and I was SUPER excited to snag this for my Switch (where I keep all my monster taming/collection games) and I really hope the devs can patch up the performance because I might (frustratingly) put this on the back burner until it is. I hope the game gets a good patch. It felt like a great game hidden in the glitches. The same thing happened with Monster Crown. Underneath glitches and bugs is a potential game in there.
Aw... I understand why this happened, there isn't anywhere near such an ambitious game made with Godot on consoles yet, so the waters are very much untested. A lot of work has gone into this release, and there's still much to be done. But it's still really disappointing. Seeing all these pauses makes it really tough to recommend on Switch. I hope it gets better in the future.
I've been playing this since day one on pc gamepass, and I am in LOVE! This game is so fun and charming, and it's mostly "open world" so everyone can have a sort of different playthrough! I just can't pull myself away from this one. Any spare time I have goes to playing this 😅 great one, guys!

So SOOOOOO tired of every game coming out recently having performance issues. Its just happening so often lately with releases its kind of frustrating. Regardless, thank you for your review! This game looks fantastic, and I'll get it when/if the issues get patched.
Even with the performance, the game is insanely good. Its only ever happening in the overworld, and even then, its not as bad as games like SV (you still notice it, but it doesn't make the game unplayable.) As far as I'm aware, the performance is just with the switch edition. The game is definitely worth sinking a ton of hours into.
I am definitely buying this game today, but I may wait a little while to play it until more patches come out. The pauses aren’t enough to keep me from playing it outright, I mean I had similar complaints with the Xcom 2 collection and I would still recommend that game in a heartbeat. Plus, this game seems like it will be amazing once the technical issues are fixed, on a gameplay level this game seems amazing!

turning off controller vibration and screen shake improves performance a lot. It's good enough to enjoy the game comfortably. Looks like they never tested the game on a real device ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I can't express enough that the switch port is the only time this game has these issues. It's gorgeous and they did a beautiful job releasing a crystal clear experience on pc.
What happened to the new video on Cassette Beasts that was uploaded here sometime last week? Was it deleted from the channel? I remember watching it, and it talked about what was improved in the switch version and what was still not working optimally.

Game is really fun but, yea the frate rate issues as well as several crashes after capturing monsters for me have kind of dragged the game down a bit for me unfortunately, hopefully more patches come soon to help

Game runs great on Steam! Have been playing on Steam Deck since it released a couple weeks ago. I really hope the series continues because it’s up there with Pokémon and Digimon IMO.
As someone who likes monster collecting rpgs but doesn't like Pokemon or Digimon I was looking forward to this. Too bad about performance. There is already the excellent SMT 5 and Monster Sanctuary on Switch though. SMT 3 on Switch was too expensive and ran like arse at launch but maybe it goes on sale every often now and might be patched no idea. If so that would be a good game as well.
Does anyone know if the dog shelter simulator is any good that was the other game I was interested in buying and I haven’t seen anyone talk about it or do a switch review for it?
The performance issues on switch are tragic, but the crashes even more so. I'd say that every time you initiate combat there's about a one in twenty chance of the game crashing, which means you can lose progress, captures or even bootlegs. You haven't suffered until you see a bootleg legendary on the overworld and run into it only for the game to crash.
It's honestly upsetting. My game's crashed like 6 times so far, the stutter is honestly unbearable, especially near water. And it's upsetting, since what I've played of the game, it's really damn good. I really hope they patch this soon since it's honestly competing with Pokemon SV for worse performance.
Glad I waited until yesterday to buy the game then, because I've had NO performance issues with the game, and Spitsfyre and Southpaw are two of my favourite Cassette Beasts right now :)

had absolutely no issues on PC so far, running 2 Xeon e5 2670 v3s, 128GB RAM, and an rx 6700xt. My brother is running it with no problems on an i5 6500, 32GB RAM, and an rx 570. I would expect it to still run fine on even lower specs as well, it doesn't seem very demanding. Really sad to see the Switch performance is not up to par, I was gonna get it to play on breaks at work.
Ive seen some things on this one, but still on the fence... I'll most likely give this one a go when it hits a sale (like most everything else, I'm a broke bloke😂)

Combat is turn based, there's no complex real-timr character movements going on, crazy particle effects or any of that stuff that would need a high end graphics card, as far as I can tell. I guess it's just bad optimization or something?

Playing this one on xbox thanks to gamepass, i gonna buy it on nintendo switch just to support the devs, cuz I like the game a lot and I prefer to play this kind of games on my switch.
I absolutely loved this game but it's sad to hear that the performance on the Switch has been so terrible. Hopefully they are able to patch it because it would be a shame for such a good game to be missed over the bad performance.
Sad (but I guess somewhat relieved) to hear that it isn't my Switch that's causing the game to run so poorly. I've gotten full console crashes, a lot of lag (especially annoying when performing puzzles and platforming) and some very bad texture glitches. After defeating one of the boss monsters at the end of a character's quest the whole world glitched out and for around 20 minutes I was convinced this was intentional since a lot of the bosses have a glitchy aesthetic.
So disappointed with this game. I have been super excited for it to come to Switch for a while now but I don't know if I've EVER played a game that runs this poorly 😔
So sad that the "push it out and update later"- culture is entering the indie scene too. Hope at one point that people start voting on this with their wallet because some of us don't wanna pay for half a product and a beta still in the oven.

It’s playable now! You should have seen how it was before this morning’s patch. One of the most temperamental game performances in the long time. Was worth going through it because it’s an EPIC game

Might be because the switch is as powerful as a phone, the performance issues may be down the console rather than the game

The devs came out with a day one patch!! They said on Twitter you have to manually update to 1.3.
I’ll add it to the wishlist. If they patch this up, I’m there.

Have you tried Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin? Or Ni No Kuni? Really fun monster taming rpgs that always go on sale 😉

That's a real shame. The PC version runs pretty flawlessly. Shame the Switch got the version clogged with bubble gum.
After my game crased so many times my save file corrupted :(, lost my endgame, completed dex and many bootlegs. I do really like the game tho

I want to buy this for the switch to support the devs. Has the game been stabilized now?

This game is heavy. I got 15 fps using my integrated ryzen gpu on high.
I had to activate my rtx 3060 to play it at 60fps on high.

@@invisiblepoop3752 I can't understand why this game is so graphically demanding? It's just pixel art, right? Combat is turn based, there's no complex real-timr character movements going on, crazy particle effects or any of that stuff that would need a high end graphics card, as far as I can tell.
I guess it's just bad optimization or something?

I just heard about this game today and have been pondering do I get it on switch or steam deck. I think I will go with the steam deck since it seems other commenters haven't had any issues with that version. Great review :3
Playing this one on xbox thanks to gamepass, i gonna buy it on nintendo switch just to support the devs, cuz I like the game a lot and I prefer to play this kind of games on my switch.
I absolutely loved this game but it's sad to hear that the performance on the Switch has been so terrible. Hopefully they are able to patch it because it would be a shame for such a good game to be missed over the bad performance.

Sad (but I guess somewhat relieved) to hear that it isn't my Switch that's causing the game to run so poorly. I've gotten full console crashes, a lot of lag (especially annoying when performing puzzles and platforming) and some very bad texture glitches.
After defeating one of the boss monsters at the end of a character's quest the whole world glitched out and for around 20 minutes I was convinced this was intentional since a lot of the bosses have a glitchy aesthetic.
Hopefully they will tighten this up so I can proudly proclaim, Now That's What I Call A Monster Catcher!
So disappointed with this game. I have been super excited for it to come to Switch for a while now but I don't know if I've EVER played a game that runs this poorly 😔

So sad that the "push it out and update later"- culture is entering the indie scene too. Hope at one point that people start voting on this with their wallet because some of us don't wanna pay for half a product and a beta still in the oven.

As somebody who's been playing on PC I'm really sad for y'all, i checked this out because i was considering buying it on switch as well. Keep an eye on it, if/when it gets better it's an absolute banger;

This game is amazing !!!! But yea hope patch comes out cause it lag pretty hard and I've been kicked out of game couples times .but man super good game I really like the chick who sings in town I highly suggest people to try it out thanks for the review !

It’s playable now! You should have seen how it was before this morning’s patch. One of the most temperamental game performances in the long time. Was worth going through it because it’s an EPIC game

Performance was no problem on PC! A bit sadge that it was a bit rough on the Switch.
Wish I had seen this review before I bought the Switch version :/ Guess that's another indy title that came out broken on the Switch. I've lost count of how many broken games I've bought for it at this point.

Bro it’s great with combat and story but I can’t play it anymore bc the lag is horrendous like worse then scarlet and violet
In PC the game had performance issues too, when I played it last month. Maybe that is normal with the game. Overall, the game is really good!

I was really looking forward to this one. As of now, I am going to pass until it's on sale and hopefully fixed. I'm tired of games released in a shoddy state. Asking consumers to pay full price for a buggy product is absurd. We shouldn't have to hope for day-one patches to get a game in an acceptable state
So just grab the Steam version until the Switch version is fixed. Got it.
