The most important thing for growing plants in the winter is lighting I would say, as the day is shorter and the plants need light to photosynthesize. I would reconsider the misting as it can bring more harm than good. Misting is ok if the leaves dry out fast but otherwise it can create a chance for fungi which can weaken the general health of the plants (easier to attract pests, lower the photosynthesis process). So I wouldn't recommend misting for indoor plants (even in the summer). Also, watering should be taken into consideration as the plants need less frequent watering. I always love the scindapsus behind you. I have one small pot and oh boy, how slow they grow!
A tip for humidity that I use and hear works better for humidity than misting is having a tray of water under/beside your plants. Can be combined with bottom watering too! They can look nice and decorative by adding some rocks in the dishes, which can help with not evaporating as quick too! Something to be aware of when putting plants near windows is cold drafts. I know my windows aren't well insulated/ need resealing so the temperature drop by my windows can be pretty dramatic. I try keeping some plants farther away/not touching the glass to keep them a bit warmer. The only growlights I've used so far are the bulbs you can put into any regular light socket, so I can use any style of lamp I like, which can keep a decor aesthetic going and also doesn't need full replacement of the whole lamp when the bulb runs out. Also! During xmas time is a time I've found automatic timer plugs much more easily, even in Dollarama, 'cause people use them for their xmas lights, so I've gotten some extra cheap to automate more of my grow lamp areas.
I did a lot of work to winterize my plants including putting up temporary shelves (cheap show racks on amazon are great!) near my south and west windows, and moving my plants from lower light areas. Moved all my aroids away from windowsills due to drafts, but moved my hearty plants and cacti to these sills. Between the heat being on, my grow lights, and humidifier I am convinced my plants grow much better during winter than summer lol. Since they all have such active growth, I don't stop fertilizing nor am I afraid to re-pot plants that I know can withstand that.
I keep my Boston fern and my Pineapple Plant on rocks in a bowl of water. The water does not touch the pots, but the evaporating water in the bowl adds humidity for them.
I did get some grow lights I am experimenting with and even adding affordable humidifiers to help my humidity around plants to not bottom out like the rest of the home. It does seem to helping.
I actually get more light in the winter too for exactly the same reasons. 🤔🤔 I need to go back in your videos and look at your grow light setup since I think I need to upgrade mine (I just have two basic ones right now)
I'm preparing to buy a new growlight today, my new rental is sooooo dark. I've been obsessively looking for any winter survival tips - you're a lifesaver!
I like to use neem oil as a preventative for pest. Make sure you test it on your leaves first. But I do this as I get new plants and as a way to keep pest away from my plants also and it works for me so far all I e had to deal with is fungus gnats I got from some soil I bought.
I have to move everything away from the windows because they are super drafty. I’m very scared for my plants this year. My room gets FREEZING and that is where the majority of my plants are
Those lights look really nice but they are super expensive. The ppfd at 12” is brutal at 43umol/m2. I have Barrina 24” leds on the way. At 12” they apparently do 132umol/m2. They aren’t waterproof but have the same spectrum and lifespan. But the big thing is I’m getting 6 for $80 or $13 per light. As for prepping for winter, I love all of your suggestions. I’m in the same boat as you. I seem to get more light in the winter because of the trees losing their leaves. I’m doing everything you’re suggesting plus I got a grow tent and will probably pickup some Milsbo cabinets. I have room humidifiers but I’m more afraid of rotting my windows with all of the condensation if I try to keep a 50%+ humidity.
Hey, thanks for the tips. I literaly just lost a plant because i guess it was on my window sill and probably to close to a heater. I've heard a couple of time to move the pants away but seriously i dont know where to put them :D does anyone have tips for that? I donr have endless space and quiet a few plant on my window sills, i dont them all to die but where do i put them? :D
I do laca balls.. but what I want to know can you use laca for a shingle plant? That I have it is in dirt right now, But I prefer to put it laca because it's easier for me because I am in a wheelchair..
HOLY MOTHER! No discount code? You don't make anything? 😱. It's pretty, warrantee is nice but awfully pricey. Any suggestions for more reasonably priced ones that you have had experience with? I LOVE PLANTAYA!!!!! Love LOVE LOVE!!!🥰😍💓. I have radiators and it's super dry here. I hate the full room humidifiers as well. I have 5 PLANTAYAS. There are fabulous!!! They leave no film on antique wood pieces or knotty pine walls!!🎉🎉💓. Before PLANTAYAS,I used infusers with no scent. Yes, have to fill more often but it's okay. Everything was fine last Winter, before PLANTAYAS, so should be fine this Winter. I enjoy misting my plants, so many say that it's useless? I was planning on driving 3 hours and 37 minutes to Vermeer's but, it started to snow here in central NY. 😱🙄. Last week. I love clear pots inside pretty cover pots, to be able to see the root system 😍💓. Necessary video, thank youuuuuu!😘.
You’re definitely paying for quality with these and sustainable products tend to be more expensive as they are made with better materials. Most of the grow lights I’ve used in the past are more expensive than these as they are panel lights but Amazon may have what you’re looking for!
I clean my plants every 2 weeks in the winter with 7th generation no fragrances plant based soap, alcohol and water with a paint brush and get the plant everywhere stems and all.. I seem to see more bugs in the winter for some reason, not sure why. Its freaking cold outside so I don't know where they come from..weird

Great tips, thanks so much! I just purchased another humidifier for my living room once I saw how my other plants are thriving! 💓💓💓😍😍😍
Such a helpful video!!! I was literally just thinking how I’m going to keep my plants alive this winter 🙇🏻♀️

My plants usually don’t stop growing over the winter either. I never stop propagating because of this.

Hi Lucia! So glad I found your channel!! If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your shelves? I'm in love and they're perfect
I got them from wayfair but they are discontinued 🥲
@@LulusLeaves oh no tears lol
I’m stressing about winter. I moved and where I am now northern Canada is so much colder than where I was before and it’s my first winter here. 😫
