    It was Hitchcock who made this a famous effect; Vertigo. But I am sure he had to go through much more trouble getting it fixed. Thanks for explaining how it can be done in Final Cut Pro, Brad!
    Btw, great place you live in... 😀

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 роки тому +1

      You are absolutely right Gert-Jan! They did it in-camera in those days and it was a lot harder to pull the effect off than it is for us in FCP 😂

    Well…I didn’t know this could be done without a simultaneous rack-focus opposite of the dolly. Brilliant! Does it look any different from that dolly-focus type for example in Jaws? But more importantly you answered something that has troubled me forever and that is the drift between keyframes. Now I can fix it. Thank you!

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 роки тому +1

      I think if you’re able to pull the effect off in-camera the results will be much better but that is pretty tough to do. What I like about being able to do it in post is that you can change how intense the dolly zoom effect is as opposed to having it “baked-in” in camera 😊👍🏼
      I’m glad the keyframe tip was helpful 🤙🏼

      @@Brad_West Thank you! I agree it’s hard to do manually but if we consider the tension needed for the scene in a movie through Visual Storytelling the contrast provided by a little camera shake may contribute. Just depends. Thanks again, you always improve my editing abilities.

    Way Cool And Thanx For The Linear Tip For Sure - Question: Could The Camera's Build In ( Cannon GX7 Mark ii ) Zoom In/Out Work If A Gimbal Is Not Available? Does The Background Automatically Distort From The Keyframes In FCPX? Does This Effect Work With Panning Footage Or Just Zoom?
    Again, Another Brilliant Tutorial And Congrats On The New Art Work
    Cheers

    • @Brad_West
      @Brad_West  2 роки тому +1

      Originally this effect was created by manually zooming with the lens as the camera moved forwards or backwards. Using keyframes essentially “replaces” the need to zoom using the lens while shooting. So if you zoom with the lens but keep the camera in one spot, I’m not sure you’re going to get the same distortion when you keyframe the scale.
      The distortion happens when you keyframe the scale because by moving the camera, the relevant distance between the different subjects in the shot changes.
      It would be interesting to see what it would look like in a panning scenario. So moving the camera to the right and keyframing the position to the left 🤔
      Thanks for watching! 😊🙏🏼 And for noticing the new tat 😉 👊🏼
