Broke: birds are drones used by the government.
Woke: birds are the government.
Birds really do be a central antagonist in western vocaloid songs huh

Everybody gansta till Gumi outsmarts your contract, causing you to lose your job as a god, leaving you with no work in the afterlife other than “special” units.
everybofy gansta until whatever the fuck happened to micheal happens to micheal
Remember kids, smoking is bad for you. If someone offers you a cigarette, just say no and eat the devil's heart instead
Also, not enough acknowledgement for the zombie that gets rejected by the turtles and raccoons and starts crying alone. I feel bad for that guy
this song is rly good but the line "take a shot" at the end sounds so much like "take a shit" and i cant get over it
now all you have to do is gumi fire song and then you are officially a vocaloid producer
this IS technically a gumi fire song, "in a burning town around infernos court" so im in but only as a loophole
Two things I learned from this song:
1. Don’t smoke, kids.
2. Nina pulled an UNO reverse card to Kieran
"little miss, this isn't the deal we had!!" gives me chills every time. i don't know why, but it just feels so powerful - the betrayal and fear in that line is amazing

I might be reading into it a little much, but I have some ideas about those crows sitting on the stoplight. According to some sources, three crows will often preside of a large number of crows and decide the fate of another crow. Given that, and the repeated mentions of trials, I believe those crows represent judges of some kind in the afterlife, and that the crow boy (Kieran) is secretly not a crow or somehow different from the others. He calls himself a raven in the first chorus (around 1:12), while Nina refers to him as a crow.
She also mentions his voice being familiar but not recognizing his appearance, so perhaps he was once a human and usurped a crow's position? The frontal lobe he talks abt eating controls several things, including memory, though I'm not super sure how it ties into my theory but hey, it's there and it maybe relates to, like, losing his memory or forcibly removing who he was to become a crow or something. The mentions of paramnesia (a delusion where one cannot distinguish real and fantasy memories) also makes me think memories have something to do with it. Maybe Nina rats him out to the real crows at the end in exchange for becoming a crow herself (bc she eats the devil's heart? maybe eating organs is like intitation to becoming a crow) Anyway rant over, if you bothered to read all of this, thanks??? i mean idk why you would but i appreciate it!
@@Helloagain987 WHERE CAN I GET SOME FRONTAL LOBES? I NEED TO RETURN MINE
You know those songs that are just like "this is going to consume my soul for a few days as I listen to it fifty times in a row"
This is one of those
So... did the mannequin get their taxi?
The turtle ate his best freind and so he entered a deep depression and couldn't afford the ridiculous taxi prices.
After only hearing this song from A Distortions Trial, the crow is a lot more attractive than I thought
i'm probably wrong, but I've also been listening to it nonstop all day, so heres my interpretation.
nina (the girl) ends up in this place (the afterlife) and kieran (the crow man) is the devil. crow man offers her a contract (the smoke) but she refuses, and he says that she's in a web of lines. she makes a non-contract deal, and he agrees to it? regardless, he offers her a second smoke, and he swears its fine, but she says that thats a lie.
the ravens are demons, and some don't like their work? that might be a bit of a stretch, but the raven who ponders if he enjoys the gore but eats more regardless doesn't like his job as a demon. alternatively, this could be kieran pondering if he actually enjoys making these contracts, but hes stated to be a crow.
eventually nina learns more about whatever the place is, and overthrows the court, taking kieran's place as the devil and "eats his heart" taking his place. i'm not sure what the trials are supposed to represent/be but they're important because the devil tells their victim to "wait for trial".
thats really all i can think of but the song is really really good!
Update: I knew the underworld thing from a tweet before the summary, BUT after the summary was posted I feel like I was not close, but closer than I thought I'd be.
Maybe the trials are representative of people judging others for their beliefs irl?
the glass of port throws me off why would the reference Portuguese wine specifically?
I really love this song and the artwork with it but I *swear* I see Mike Wazoski's silhouette hidden behind that little cluster of people.
We now have a more important question…
…what did Mike do to get there?
Small theory! So you know that the girl betrays the crow right? What if that's because she knew him when he was alive? At the beginning of the song she said the crows voice sounded familiar to her but she didn't recognize his looks. Perhaps she's giving him a trial because he's not a full fledged Crow, maybe he was human but somehow tricked everyone to being a crow. She only recognizes him the more he guides her. She doesn't appreciate this trickery and plays a trick of her own, making it so that he'll finally get a trial.
So now someone protraying a crow gets betrayed instead of the main protagonist?
It's literally the opposite of Persona 5

Just want to let you know that I saw this song in an MV for The Magnus Archives and I literally can't stop thinking about it. The composition is so fucking good and I LOVE that kind of electroswing style. Amazing work, I hope you get lots more views!

i came from it too a little more than a year ago now and i'm just now coming back here bc it got stuck in my head out of nowhere :')
I love how this is the only to hell and back song that doesn't use the word 'love'
"Paramnesia rules this world, so fake a smile!", is such a sick line!
Lyrics:
Guests line up to leave their moldy bedrooms,
In a dimly lit moonlit motel.
The turtles are dancing with racoons,
A zombie joins but gets a firm no thank you.
The mannequins calling for a taxi,
With a fee of 20 thousand yen.
A familiar voice cries out to me,
A feathered creature I have never seen.
The crow offers me a smoke,
He says "it'll take you for a joyride".
No sir, I think I'd rather choke,
Oh I'll be fine-
You're in a web of lies.
On a busy street you'll see the cityfolk,
Run at the mercy of the singing crows.
The raven ponders if he enjoys the gore,
While he takes the frontal lobe and eats some more.
Little miss, don't sit, come join the fun,
We've only got 12 hours till the party's done,
Paramnesia rules this world so fake a smile,
Take a shot, some scotch, and wait until your trial.
Crows line up to greet the local mushrooms,
sticking flyers on their spotted head.
The turtles are eating the raccoons,
A zombie sits alone and cries "I hate you".
The mannequins calling for a taxi,
For a crow who knows we have a deal.
A familiar voice cries out to me,
A feathered creature, and he's come to see me.
The crow offers me a smoke,
He says "It'll help you kill the third eye".
My my, do you think this is a joke?
'I swear its fine!'
He's in a web of lies.
The clocks take shots as the dolls relax under the morning sky,
They wonder if time would still proceed if they were to die.
The devils work life, suffice to say, is comedy at best,
He wonders if there will come a time when he can leave the nest.
In a burning town around infernos court,
The crows are laughing with a glass of port.
The woman ponders if she enjoys the gore,
Still, she takes the devil's heart and eats some more.
"Little miss? This isn't the deal we had!"
Oh, did I mess it up? I guess it's just too bad.

It's a lot easier when you have it all visible :3
girl: *outsmarts his deal*
crow: no! this is not how you play the game!
Ok here's what my tired brain has scrounged together for a story
Basically, this takes place in the afterlife
Not everyone is a human (like, there are zombies, mannequins, crows). If anything, humans are known to be uncommon and weak
This place is very known for not everything being as it seems
There's this human girl trying to make it here, do her best, and this crow guy (im so sorry, i forget their names oof) thinks that's HILAIRIOUS so he does creepy things just to get a reaction out of her
He gets it at first, but then she turns it around and she turns out not to be a human but a demon or something like that, and does even worse things than him and mr crow is Fear

i love this!! the lyrics are especially neat but like...the whole song and pv slap 😳
When you first look at the art for it, it all looks great and fine and nothing suspicious. And then. AND THEN you start noticing those tiny little details that make the entire thing so damn unsettling.
Mike is a nickname, and nicknames are for friends.
Michael Wazowski is no friend of mine.
Came here from the Distortion's Trial animatic along with so many other folks. This is such a bop, and I love the story behind it. Awesome work.
I’ve officially memorized 3 songs with lyrics and sound
The dream granter
A crows trial
And my favorite to sing is perfectly sweet
I love that instead of the obviously demonic (at least in nature) guy being the evil one she turns around and scares the crap out of him, absolutely love plot twists with my vocaloid songs
Here’s what I think I got from the song so far. Although, you might see this edited a couple of times. As I was writing this, I thought that the party was referring to the raccoons and the turtles. But i think it’s actually referring to the massacre that’s going on outside by the crows. this is definitely a work in progress.
-there is a motel that the protagonist is staying at. The motel is not good. it’s dimly lit, it’s moldy, etc. everybody is trying to leave the motel as fast as possible. The zombie he’s trying to join the dancing from the turtles and raccoons. But they are told no. This really upsets the zombie. The turtles may look like they’re dancing with raccoons, but in reality they’re eating them. The mannequin had a deal with the taxi driver, and they settled that outside with a money payment. The crow goes up to the protagonist also having a deal. They offer a most likely lasted cigarette. The crowd does this multiple times, making outlandish claims about what the cigarette can do. The protagonist is not falling for it.
So the protagonist does know that they have a deal, but hasn’t seen the crow before. But the protagonist has heard the crows voice before. By the end of the song, the crow is scared at the fact that the protagonist is not doing what they said they would do in this deal. But she pretty much goes tough luck, see you at the trial.
It feels like a tale of the bewitching demon becoming more human, while the human he was supposed to lure became more demon-like
I'm upset that this comment section is lacking in chubby sad rat appreciation.
I loveee this song! i discovered it from a cool animation based on the Magnus archives
This is amazing imo! Really, everything from the lyrics, to the art, to the instrumental and tuning all combine to make a very good song. I’m not really sure what to make of the ‘story’, but whatevs. Thank you all for working together to make this happen, and I’m glad you had fun making this!

It's super effective!
dont u just hate it when you reject a smoke from a crow and he tells you you're in a web of lies?
At 0:52, the video zooms in and in the middle of the image there is a pole with 4 figures behind it. If you look at the silhouette directly behind this pole, to the right of the person, there is a figure that looks just like Mike Wazowski standing behind the other 3 people.

It's lonely and sharp, cool and stylish pop song!!!!!!!! Very dramatic!!!
ok time to go crackhead conspiracy mode
my personal belief is that all the separate items and animals in the song (the clocks, raccoons, zombie etc.) all represent different organizations or gang members, with the entire town/city being infested with different types.
the crow/raven guy is an advocate for his own gang or whatever,, trying to indoctrinate the girl (who is probably new in town) into his. However, the girl eventually sees through this.
instead of just backing away or whatever, she ends up joining and destroying the gang from the inside-out, hence the “little miss this isn’t the deal we had”
probably wrong but heY it’s fun to imagine

ooo i remember the meaning behind the lyrics........ genuinely can't believe this is nearly a year old
Man I seem to have interpreted this WAY differently then everyone else lol. I always thought of this as: “the apocalypse/rapture/day of judgment is almost here so all the crows are indulging themselves and having fun before they get judged, and one crow invites the girl to join them, but she refuses. Then on judgement day, while all the crows watch the trials, the girl passes the devil’s judgement which frightens the crow, who was trying to get her to indulge and fail like the rest of them.”
this is gen my favorite vocaloid song. just ever
Here's what I thought the story was:
So, the story takes place in a weird, wonderland-type city run by an oligarchy of crows. A girl comes to visit the city, and a crow-person comes along and tries to convince her to have a cigarette. They chat about the city, and then at some point leave. They meet up again, and chat some more (after the crow-guy tries again to get the girl to have a cigarette). Soon after this, a riot breaks out, and in the ensuing chaos, the girl eats the devil, frames the crow-person, and leaves.
