So sorry to hear about poor Olive. What a traumatic experience for her and for you. I’m very pleased to hear she is on the mend. What a brave girl. We’re sending her lots of love and cuddles from the UK xxx
Hi Olive, Mouse here again. Mum says to tell your Mum about chicken hearts. She buys a pack of them in the supermarket and freezes them in batches of 4. When the time comes for me to have my worming pills, she defrosts them, puts a pill inside a chicken heart, and gives it to me. To be honest, it doesn't really touch the sides, it tastes so good I just want to gobble them down. Plus they come with a little handy hole in the top for putting the pill inside! No stress, no pill dread. Mouse xx PS, love your stripey jamas
Thanks 😊 Yes, if I’d had to stop to look for the emergency info at midnight whilst dealing with a distressed hound, I don’t think I would have managed.
I have Iggies or Italian Greyhounds, but your trick with the peanut butter was so useful to me, even for worming thank you. Hope gentle Olive is still improving.
Poor Olive please give her a big fuss from me. I adopted 2 greyhounds in one month. I have a 5 year old lad called Dante and a 3 year old girl called Hattie. Thank you Natalie for this helpful information. Sending love and best wishes from the UK. X
Hazel Buckfield how wonderful! Two! Lucky you ❤️ My son and daughter-in-law have a black Grey called Dante too! I will give Olive a hug from you 🥰 thank you 😊
Thank you for posting this, I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'm in the process of adoption here in the states and find your videos very informative.
HI friends! I'm so glad to hear Olive is doing Ok! Bleeding issues are so very frightening. I have a Grey now but I kept Great Danes for many years before him. Two of my Danes suffered from post op clotting problems and spent days in critical care hospitals so I sure do understand how worried you must have been. Thanks for sharing Olive's story.
@@NataliePowellAGreytLife No fun at all. Both my girls survived but the vet bills were insane. Thank goodness for pet health insurance. Please give Olive an ear nuggie from us. 🤗
Oh poor Olive and you! That was a huge wound, I would have been freaked out if that happened to my greyhound. Coincidentally on finding your video today, MY greyhound ( on leash) was bitten on the leg as we were just walking through a dog exercise area this morning! It’s about a 1 inch wound which I’m going to treat with salt water and hope for the best. This is also the second time my grey has been bitten. The owner of the dog didn’t even acknowledge me, let alone come over and get her dog off mine, or apologise, and I didn’t find the wound until we got home. I love Olive’s outfits, she’s very stylish, bless her. Also, very informative video, thank you. Greetings from London 🇬🇧 🇦🇺
Elaine Naden oh no! I hope your grey is ok! They tear so easily, don’t they! How awful that the other owner didn’t respond in a responsible or caring way. Is there a flap of skin or is it more of a cut? Salt water is great for healing and disinfecting, I think you can also use Betadine but you’d better check that! Take care 🥰 Thanks for watching all the way from the UK!
Our Greyhound was bitten across the back the vet had to cut away skin an area of flesh left we used a disinfectant and sugar / honey on the wound it healed quickly and the hair grew back both are natural anti biotic . Salt water is a great idea .
That’s so sweet, thank you ❤️ She’s all better now and still has scars, but you almost can’t see them. She’s getting better with greyhounds now too, as she was very frightened of them after this incident.
So glad lovely Olive is getting better! I live in the UK and have just rescued a 7 year old fawn greyhound and am loving it, your videos have been a great reference point and distraction from everything going on! All the best (Also love the plants) xx
She has really been in the wars! My wife and i are about to get our very first retired greyhound; an 8 yr old girl named Lucy who in addition to having raced, has also had a couple of litters. She's ready to kick back for a life of retired luxury and we can totally bring that. Your videos have been so helpful (my wife also sneaks in a ton of indoor plants but thats another story). We've loved learning about your journey and letting everybody into her four legged life in the uploads. delightful and heart warming. while both of us grew up with dogs, neither of us has owned a pooch in 20 yrs due to life being unpredictable but we are super ready and get our Lucy next week, Thanks for all the effort you've put into the clips. So informative and helpful. We've learned a lot of important stuff.
I’m so glad you’ve found some of my info and experience with Olive helpful 😊 You will have your own unique journey, but hopefully I’ve shared some things that will help you avoid a few pitfalls or issues. How wonderful that you are giving the best life to an older girl who has worked so hard ❤️ She will enjoy a more laid back life with you, I’m sure. I wish you all the very best with her! If you have Instagram you could follow us at olive_the_grey and then we could see your story too, when Lucy arrives. Also glad to hear you have some green babies in your home 😂 Thanks so much for watching and good luck! Xxx
Poor Olive, hope she’s doing even better now. Our boy Jet recently suffered a spinal stroke and he too has the clotting disorder. It’s been terrifying but he is on the mend. One tip with giving tablets, I would wrap Jets tablets up in a little raw mince which he loves so we never had an issue. Our Pomeranian always sniffs them out but even she takes the mince wrapped meds. Just an idea if Olive’s partial to chicken, turkey or beef mince raw. Xx
melharris01 that’s a good idea with mince - at least it would be easy to make into a little meat ball around the tablet. I’ll try that next time I have to give her a tablet. Thanks! Sorry to hear about your boy Jet 😢 that would be scary! I hope he’s getting better too. Olive is her normal self physically now, but is still nervous around greyhounds which makes me sad as she used to get so excited to meet one. Now she hides behind me and tucks her tail between her legs 😢 Hopefully she’ll get over that too 😊
Hi Natalie, very sorry to hear about Olive after being bitten, you've been through a he'll of a lot during the course of Olive's medical treatment, very glad to see she is well on the way to a full recovery, lovely to see her personality coming back after all that she's been through, I have a female Greyhound myself (Misty) and I know how sensitive there personalities are but is lovely to see Olive on the mend and I hope to see you next video with Olive making a full recovery. Stuart from the UK
Stuart Taylor thanks Stuart 😊 Olive just loves meeting other dogs so much and is super friendly and it’s a shame that this has been to her detriment a couple of times. It sure was a roller coaster ride for that first week of her recovery, but she is so much better now. She still has a small lump left but it is gradually going down. How old is Misty? What kind of personality does she have? Thanks so much for watching 😊
Many thanks for your reply, Misty will be 3 years old on the 17th of August, she is a black Greyhound and looks very similar to Olive, she is very friendly and love's meeting poeple and other dogs but she is very cautious with small dogs, she can be quite reserved but she does love a bed fight when the mood takes her, she is super chilled at home and likes a good fuss along with her toys, especially the squeaky ones! Thanks very much for your interest and will look forward to seeing your next video with Olive.
Thank you so much 🙏🏼 Physically she is all better now - the hematoma has gone away and she can run and do zoomies just as she used to do. She’s quite nervous around greyhounds now though, but we’re working on that. Thanks for your kind words ☺️
gosh , poor Olive, and poor Mum,so happy she is now on the mend, thank you for the warning about the blood clotting, it’s a bit scary, hope it never happens to my darling Giselle, was also helpful to see how you managed to trick Olive into taking her medication, just encase I ever have to treat her for something, perish the thought, all the very best to you both, I’m in Nedlands wa, where are you?
Thanks! Hope she will get well and recover fully. I just saw her on the beach sprinting.... Joyful. Considering replacement adoption of a 8 yo greyhound right now but there's been no medical check ups, so now I am not sure. They say he's healthy.. It will be my 1st grayhound ever.
I hope the 8 year old greyhound is healthy and that there are no issues at all which might stop you from adopting him. The male greyhounds often tend to be a bit more cuddly than the girls, I’ve heard. Perhaps you could ask to take him for a trial at first, and see how you go?
