  • Archaeologists in Egypt said Saturday they had found 59 well-preserved and sealed wooden coffins over recent weeks that were buried more than 2,500 years ago. They were discovered in the sprawling burial ground of Saqqara, the necropolis of the ancient Egyptian capital of Memphis, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The discovery of the coffins is the first major announcement since the outbreak of Covid-19 in Egypt, which led to the closure of museums and archaeological sites for around three months from late March.

      @@chargedparticleaccelarator6665 Hi Karan. I mean, I feel like opening up the tomb of ANYONE, especially for cultural reasons, is disrespectful. These archaeologists seem to be obsessed with Ancient Egyptians of high ranking status. I have no idea what point they're trying to prove. All the top ranking Egyptians believed in a journey to the other world. That is the purpose of mummification. Commoners were buried or cremated. Your spirit does not 'die' with your body. It goes to the other world. They're going to disturb someone powerful enough to cause serious damage to them. If they haven't already. But also, they are probably exposing diseases that were buried thousands of years ago. In any case, that's why I said, cremation is on the rise because they're just making money off of someone who's gone already. Just my feelings.

      One would think that Ancient Egyptians buried their dead with the purpose that they will remain buried for eternity undisturbed. Regardless or religion or culture, I hope their souls, Ka, Chi etc are still at peace. But then again, this sort of excavations have been going on in Egypt for nearly 200 years, such as Howard Carter's excavation of Tutankhamun's tomb, he could'nt wait to get his greedy hands on it...the tomb was opened to the elements, with many hands touching everything they can touch (but mind you, he did catalogued many artifacts, which assisted in learning about Egyptian society).

    Beautiful find. It always amazes me that wooden artifacts survive with such incredible detail in the Egyptian climate. The vibrant colors remind me that nearly all interiors of pyramids and scarcofigi were once just as colorful. I will be interested to know what combination of factors lead to all these people being buried together and such preservation.

      Its an interesting discussion. And it should be a discussion.
      But if the people of Egypt decide to open it - I think they have a right as the culture most directly associated with the tomb. Also this is a very complex moral question - if we go too far in either direction we can be in dangerous territory. In extreme instances - we can be morally sensitive people but do not take enough risks to advance medicine, technology and our understanding of human history. It’s like being religious people that calls science ‘heresy’ - where would we be during this pandemic if we still think that way? On the other hand we can be so liberal with these things that we start experimenting with human bodies and corpses like the Nazis did.
      This tomb is a grey area imo and i don’t believe we should be quick to condemn people for it 😊

    Guys, it isn’t about desecrating these mummies. It takes about a 5 second google search to find out how bad the grave robbery is in Egypt and in the Middle East in general. There and so many, some up to three thousand, four thousand years old. These are also so old, nobody really has the rights to them. And sadly, the dead do not have a say what happens to their bodies, or their belongings. Personally, I like to see mummies in a museum, rather than destroyed by grave robbers.

      They seal the coffins to preserve their bodies to last the amount of time that they did because they probably knew way more knowledge than what we humans have learned about life thus far and see that if they preserve knowledge to pass onto humans later on centuries down the line humanity can use that knowledge to better evolve. Who cares what knowledge they pass on or what items they kept in their tomb. Everything happens for a reason and never by chance. So life is showing us this moment for a reason.

    The reason they did this is because the tourism in Egypt has dropped, and they want to get more attention by making a spectacle out of delicate artifacts from ancient people they aren’t even related to. However this is super dangerous for the items, because they’re are getting exposed to the degrading and contaminating properties of outside air, the exposure of a large number of people without face coverings, the sweat and finger oils of people who are not waring gloves, and people who are not respecting proper methods for maximum preservation. It’s all about the media attention to them. These coffins should’ve been taken to a sterile scientific Laboratory under special light, temperature, and humidity conditions, immediately put under a three-year irradiation process (to prevent the mummies from decomposition and kill all possible bacterial growth), x-rayed/put under MRI or whatever, and THEN MAYBE opened within a sterile room, by top experts with full body suits and gloves. That would’ve been the most ideal situation. But of course this is Egypt. You’ll find that every time tourism goes down they just so happen to find a new mummy to open.

Pale skined Mordern Egyptian from the north have a very mixed geno including Turkish, Greeks, French, Persian (DNA due to invasion) not just arab when you travel south to Aswan and Thebes the majority are very much dark skined Africans . Because you don't study nile valley history you would say it's a medertarian "civilisation" as every scholar knows all the nobles (leader class) found and tested were haplogroup E1ab1A/em2 DNA commonly found amoung in subsaharan bantu-speakers. These dna finding are by the same people in this very video "UNESCO and Dr Hawas" the study on remeses 3rd and his child along with the armana mummies. If you go to page 2, on the right hand side, paragraph above discussion it says ir right there www.academia.edu/2308336/Revisiting_the_harem_conspiracy_and_death_of_Ramesses_III_anthropological_forensic_radiological_and_genetic_study .plus the darkskin mummies are right infront of you lol.

      @Memphis Girgis Atrees ⲣⲙⲛⲕⲏⲙⲉ What your doing is telling a tinny portion of the story to people that don't know the full story 😂 the ancient Egyptians were conqured by the Assyrians hyksos then kicked out in the middle kingdom conqured by the Persians and the Greeks in the new kingdom for almost 1000 years most indiginous kemetian migrated south into kush like the beja nuba dafur tribes and some tribe moved west like the igbo, Ashanti, dogan tribes to say a few. This is evident as the nobles DNA tested came back E1b1a a haplogroup found in subsaharan africa not the lavent or south Europe. Again go to page 2,right hand side, paragraph above disscussion www.academia.edu/2308336/Revisiting_the_harem_conspiracy_and_death_of_Ramesses_III_anthropological_forensic_radiological_and_genetic_study . I let the scholarship talk.

    • @ZeiBeatz
      @ZeiBeatz 4 роки тому +8

      @Memphis Girgis Atrees ⲣⲙⲛⲕⲏⲙⲉ This shows you lack the scholarship of the times of antiquity as You would know the population of the kemetians were alot smaller around 1.2 million this itself shows migration over time as now their 100 millions people living in Egypt today. Africa has the most complex migration patterns in the world meaning people were constantly migrating for thousands of years this is shown in their Dna. So let me get this straight the Greeks that's migrated into egypt they didn't settle, the hyksos didn't settle? The tamahu didn't settle? What about the slaves that were brought in i.e slavs, Assyrians etc they didn't settle? People didn't flee during invasions ? Common bro stop. The nubians and the kemetian were the same people genetically as the Egyptian in their own words say they come from the south some took forgien wifes but not the bulk. The kemetians and the nubians were culturally different with minor differences like anywhere as the DNA of every noble found and tested cames back e1b1a (em2) the haplogroup found in subsaharan Africa that is including west Africa bro, wheather you like it or not. They couldn't get the X chromosome but the Y chromosome i.e the forefathers were closest realated "so called" to bantu speakers today.
