There are still quite a lot of Italians in that neighborhood, but it's also fair to say that many of my Italian friends who used to live there have now moved out elsewhere. It's much more eclectic now.

I lived there for my childhood. But I had to get back to New York City because of the racism there. I know it’s changed now, but those people are still there. And their children and friends are not going to change.
I think unfortunately there's racism everywhere. I also have a sense that it *is* changing over the decades, like sexism. There were just so many things which were hard-baked into American culture like the way people would react to a mixed-race couple, that have eased immensely. Absolutely our current world has a LOT of racism in it. Still, I think it's vastly better than it was in the 1960s.

I sure glad I left. The last time I was stepped in that place was 2011. I will never go back again
