- Our state government is expanding express lanes across the state, following a model Florida launched in the Miami area along Interstate 95.
Our state transportation leaders say express lanes are the future of transportation, because they improve traffic flow. However, the I-95 express lane project has drawn mixed reviews and controversy in South Florida, which has now spread to Tampa.

This is conflict of interest in the mass majority of people in the State of Florida do not like express lanes and toll roads please use our money from our gas tax to build our roads, Bridges and highways more efficient.
They need to stop building tolls! And keep it where it’s at! Or least lower the price.
It took me $8 to go from Orlando to Ft Pierce on the Turnpike. In my home state, we have two turnpikes. From end to end, the closest turnpike only charges me $3.45 to go 25 miles.

Tolls are a northern thing. So they build an Express lane. Did they ever think that just building an extra lane would solve the problem without tolls? Oh, right, have to be like northerners and collect money to line politicians pockets.

It's the biggest scam of the 21st century here in Orlando when they 1st put the toll roads in they said when the roads were paid for they would take the tolls out all they do is raise them and add more toll roads around my area almost every highway has a toll on it now they have an express lane on I 4 it's ridiculous and a scam and yes the lower income workforce does pay yes you can take the surface streets but they are so clogged up because people are trying to avoid the tolls so you either lose time or money Just so the politicians can get wealthy What they should do is just raise the gas tax a little bit it would more than pay for the roads or people that have a car registered here should not have to pay only commercial traffic and tourists should have to pay tolls that's another solution That way the people that work here and pay taxes here don't have to suffer financially

Don't have money - take a bus, they are using express lanes for free. If otherwise - deal with the traffic
@@user-jh6kx1fw9h also the toll for the express lane is not something that exist for making money on people, it is more for a controlling of traffic flow. if there is a lot of traffic on the express lanes, then the toll is increases to prevent lanes from getting more traffic. And by the way taxpayer's money is almost never enough to maintain all Freeways and roads. Speaking of fairness: if you think of that, the Miami Metromover is free to ride but even then is mostly used by tourists, who are not paying a cent to a local government, and most Floridians, who are paying taxes, never even ride on it.
The State of Florida wants you to believe that there's not enough money but the simple concept is we pay gas tax they work for us they need to build roads Bridges and highways more efficient we have the same problem here in California that's why our gas taxes the highest in the nation, we do get a lot of toll roads and express lanes but no added Lanes on our freeways our gas tax goes up 5.7 cents per year for the next 10 years also we pay sales tax on our gas we also pay the highest DMV fees and weight fees for commercial trucks but that's okay both Florida and California are laughing all the way to the bank I'm okay with people complaining about express lanes and toll roads they have every right.

Too many drivers think the road is all theirs. They seem to forget that tax dollars are the reason why they have a paved roadway and not a muddy uneven unpaved road. Obviously they complain that they should use all lanes for free, but the reason for express lanes is to control the traffic flow so the demand does not overflow the capacity of the highway. If a charge is put on the left two lanes of the traffic, drivers have the choice to avoid the charge by staying in the general purpose lane. Those that wish to use the express lane can pay the toll. That's economics at work. This is a free county and you have the right to choose. If you would rather save some cash and be stuck in traffic going 8 inches an hour, be my guest. Or if you choose to spend a few bucks to bypass traffic at speed in the express lanes, that's your choice. Nobody is forcing you to use the express lanes, it's a choice.
I live in Miami everything the people from the DOT is saying is totally wrong those express lanes have really messed up I-95 traffic traffic was not as bad for for the express lanes went in and there's no clear directions on when you can get off of them
There was nothing wrong with the traffic before the express lanes and now people pay for slower traffic even in the other lanes
It is beyond retarded that they are continuing to do this this is so not right

The 12,000 crashes have nothing to do with the express lanes, that's simply because Miami drivers are (Bleep)holes.

Not really showing the two sides of the story, but it's fox, so i expected that. American freeways have too much lanes, adding more lanes actually increase the risk of traffic jams. These express lanes should be HOV or HOT lanes to encourage slurging and carpooling cause this makes roads accessible for people without a car and increase street capacity. So the best way would be: take 2 to 4 lanes away from traffic, seperate them with walls and let one be a carpool lane and the other one a public transit bus lane. This would increase the usage of carpools and public transport and increase the traffic flow both for busses and for drivers. Especially public transport should be a normal mode of transportation and not viewed as a welfare program for the poor.
The solution you stated is that of something California has on I-15 in San Diego County. It is used by rapid bus routes and it is free for the carpool. In other express lanes like the 15 in Riverside County and 91 in Orange County give discounts to vehicles that have 3+ occupants. It is definitely a shame that public transport is viewed as a welfare program for the poor when reality it is made accessible to everybody and it can actually save you a lot of money from owning car, which often comes with registration fees and gas money.
Obviously if you put a charge the lanes, it discourages drivers from driving in the lane so it doesn't go over capacity, and that is the exact reason why they put a charge, and that's probably why people are mad because they feel like they should have the right to use any lane for free. We've gotten so addicted to cars to the point it will be too hard to turn back.
