can we just talk about the fact that this was when only the Debut album was out, and hes already playing riffs from To Lead You To An Overwhelming Question, and Another Year, in the first 10 seconds... lol
i have so much respect for musicians like tosin. he knows more about guitar than most people could ever learn and he's still trying to push himself and expand his boundaries. what a legend
Man ,i want to hug this guy he's an awesome guitar player, a big inspiration for me.. I love how he still applyes Heavy Metal in his music, besides his incredible knowing of music theory Im glad to have discovered Animals as Leaders!
Tosin is truly incredible. I understand why some people don't understand and can't comprehend the art and musicality in his playing, because they don't have the facilities to do so, as it's different. But It's really brilliant. His technical ability is amazing, and his musical prowess is definitely worthy of a virtuoso. I love his personality as well. Great guy. I support you, Tosin. And oneday, if my dreams as a guitarist are realised; I will definitely list you as one of my inspirations, amon
I try doing the same when it comes to practicing, at 3:40. Kind of getting inspired by what I'm listening to at the time. Granted, I'm still miles behind Mr. Abasi, here.
The reason Tosin is so good! Is he has an open mind to all kinds of music and doesn't focus on one genre. This kid is really amazing. I have been playing for 15 years and I can't play half if not anything he does. Just pure talent!
I met Tosin Abasi Last year when He played with The Faceless here in Tucson...He is the Most Down to earth Person I have ever met, and will happily answer any question you ask him (:
He's philosophy on creativity, practice, and composing are just perfect given he's already "been-there-done-that" on the technical part of playing the instrument.Really good tips Tosin is a passionate musician looking to better himself all the time,i can't imagine how he will sound in say 2 more years.
I like his acceptance and individuality to wear clothes that his ancestors wore more than 100 years ago and pull it off. Very influential interview. Golden words from Tosin Abasi.
I love that he utilizes a technique that Victor Wooten uses for his really fast parts. He's one of the most unique players today and I'm really stoked to hear more from Animals As Leaders.
You are absolutely right man. Thats why i am learnin jazz theory and scales n everything right now. İ play metal but i ll have more to play when i learn jazz.
not everyone is smart enough to understand this music, we can feel blessed to be able to comprehend the genious behind it. Animals As Leaders is one of those bands that makes the listener think, very complex, technical, not for everyone.
you know i listen to his music and being a musician my self it saddens me not because i dont like it but because this man is so intellectually ahead of the music of this time. not to mention my hands burst into flames everytime i play his music xD
I absolutely know where he's coming from in regards to playing with emotion as apposed to simply playing very specifically and routinely, especially being a drummer. That is when great technical facility can be most useful. I mean, to play with soul while simultaneously having such fluid technical ability. That's what makes a good musician great.
Rocking out 29/16 Sweep arpeggios combined with hybrid picking on 8 string guitar from the future, while wearing stylish 20's outfits, he is my favorite human being
hes a true genius. he is playing while hes talking. he talks about his practicing. but he practices without even doing so on purpose. just wow. music is runnig through his veins.
He seems really intillectual with out trying to hard, and he also gives off a really cool vibe and his hair is awesome, and as for his guitar playing, I don't even think I have to say anything.
@Junnage i think ur right, i was just thinking in terms of being symmetrical to the higher strings. because difference between G and B is 2 tones instead of F# to B being 2.5
@DarthNader11 No, it's not a floyd rose. It's an Ibanez Edge III trem, but it's a fixed bridge. It's mainly for tuning stability and to balance the tension on the instrument evenly
I've noticed the best musicians are the ones who find it hard to explain what exactly they are doing. Because they're not trying to prove something to the world, they're just going with the flow, letting their passion lead them.
i seem to be goin down the same musica road hes been down, been playing 7 years, cant wait to see where ill be in my playing in 8 more years,to match his 15,not that it matters how many years uv been playing, but ur ability t,and it doesnt matter if our skills will be equal either, just curious of the future
@RicoMaximusv depends on how you string it, usually u just add a lower B and G string. but the guy from scale the summit i think added a hi A instead of a low G, so extra 2.5 tones higher and 2.5 semitones lower.
Sometimes the 'best' stuff I write (relatively speaking to what I usually write, haha) is when I've been jamming for over an hour or so, and when and I've loosened up a bit. The whole 'applying musical theory' and 'refining' what you've written does seem pretty accurate though. I usually find myself playing the same stuff over and over again, like I need to have my head somewhere else than where it is when I'm trying to find inspiration. I guess that's why Tosin's into so many genres of music.
@getaliferetards Agreed....I'm not familiar with every single thing he's done but I've listened to Bruford "One of a Kind" countless number of times and his playing on that album is freaking amazing. I love how his style doesn't really sound like it's rooted from anything else. Even guys like Fredrik Thordendal from Meshuggah cite him as an influence.
can we just talk about the fact that this was when only the Debut album was out, and hes already playing riffs from To Lead You To An Overwhelming Question, and Another Year, in the first 10 seconds... lol
And from the newest album.
i was just thinking the same thing LOL
i have so much respect for musicians like tosin. he knows more about guitar than most people could ever learn and he's still trying to push himself and expand his boundaries. what a legend
Tosin's fingers are subconsciously voicing chords to his interview. BADASS!!!
Man ,i want to hug this guy he's an awesome guitar player, a big inspiration for me.. I love how he still applyes Heavy Metal in his music, besides his incredible knowing of music theory
Im glad to have discovered Animals as Leaders!
ANOTHER YEAR. OMG. HE'S BEEN PLAYING IT FOR LIKE 4 YEARS NOW.
Tosin is incredibly inspiring. both musically and in the way he thinks about music
Tosin is truly incredible. I understand why some people don't understand and can't comprehend the art and musicality in his playing, because they don't have the facilities to do so, as it's different. such a laudable modern-day musician. I have the highest respect for Tosin Abasi
I saw you today live in Estonia, and wanted to say that you are überfantastic.
So is your band, good luck:)
I try doing the same when it comes to practicing, at 3:40. Kind of getting inspired by what I'm listening to at the time.
Granted, I'm still miles behind Mr. Abasi, here.
I love guitar players like him, they're able to look at the instrument and they see no limitations. This guy is a revelation.
tosin i knew once i heard my first AAL song, I just knew who you were, such solid legitimate answers
I like how he's sitting there playing chords the whole time he's talking. This man is an inspiration to me!!
The reason Tosin is so good! Is he has an open mind to all kinds of music and doesn't focus on one genre. This kid is really amazing. I have been playing for 15 years and I can't play half if not anything he does. Just pure talent!
Having seen him play these incredible riffs flawlessly live, I can confirm that he's out of this world
Awesome young gentleman, just awesome!
thank you very much for making me remember to buy my ticket for the upcoming show!

Agree. I just found out about AAL and Tosin just a couple a weeks ago, and as of now I feel like I will follow him as long as he is active.
such a humble dude yet such an inspiring musician.
so sick :)
The Einstein of music, no doubt. Definitely one of the most talented musicians I have ever heard.
I love that he utilizes a technique that Victor Wooten uses for his really fast parts. He's one of the most unique players today and I'm really stoked to hear more from Animals As Leaders.
I love that even while he's talking his fingers are drawn to the guitar; He can't stop, it feels too good.
amazing musician. great interview too
I love that while he's talking, he's almost subconsciously playing the guitar. The man is so good he writes solos without even knowing it.
Another year
What an amazing guy! More metal fans should be like him.
maan...no kidding! this is the first time a guitarist give me goosebumps when they shred!
he's such a nice and simple guy !!!
this man is great, all his major influences are awesome players
You are absolutely right man. Thats why i am learnin jazz theory and scales n everything right now. İ play metal but i ll have more to play when i learn jazz.

Damn "Another Year" is that old??
HAHA xD. He also played Ectogenesis in 2011
I want to hear that!
I like this guy, he seems like a pretty chill dude.
you know i listen to his music and being a musician my self it saddens me not because i dont like it but because this man is so intellectually ahead of the music of this time. not to mention my hands burst into flames everytime i play his music xD
I LOVE HIM!
AAL, come to the UK!
guys like this should be the ones making millions of dollars, not all these pop stars out there like miley cyrus.
One of my favorite guitar players. My god, he is a genius.
I wonder if he has any idea how much he influences music today. A very brilliant and rare human being. Love this guy! :)
i seem to be goin down the same road he did, been playin almost 7 years, cant wait to see where ill be with 8 more years experience to match his
I absolutely know where he's coming from in regards to playing with emotion as apposed to simply playing very specifically and routinely, especially being a drummer. That is when great technical facility can be most useful. I mean, to play with soul while simultaneously having such fluid technical ability. That's what makes a good musician great.
Such a cool dood. Hope to meet him some day.
so well spoken.
It's eerie how our timeline on guitar matches up ... I just wish I was as good as he is, lol! The man is a monster.
This guy is my new favorite guitar player. Master.
Tosin, you are a monster :D Such an inspiration!
He speaks so eloquently, as if every word is so carefully chosen to fit every sentence perfectly.
This guy is freaking amazing !
That little chord change at 0:03 is the best thing I've ever heard.
his work with Reflux is awesome i would tell anybody to listen to them
I love how you can see his hand creepin along the fretboard while he's still talking
He definitely plays some stuff from the new album in the intro to this video...and this was posted in January of 2010. IT WAS HERE THE WHOLE TIME!
very articulate guy, fantastic player too
he seems like such a chill dude. id love to have a beer with him,
Thank you for the insight on the mystery man that is Tosin Abasi!
Wow i'm glad i subscribed. Tosin abasi is one of the best guitarist right now
I do not really like his music, but I like that he put a new chapter to the book
He's so good it give me a head ache.
makes me want to learn more guitar stuff...
well spoken guy. beast at guitar
Rocking out 29/16 Sweep arpeggios combined with hybrid picking on 8 string guitar from the future, while wearing stylish 20's outfits, he is my favorite human being
HIm, Mikeal Akferdelt, and Jari Maenpaa...my fav guitarists.
the future of METAL is here,,,thank you Tosin..
tthe best part is how much he loves what he does.
Thanks Tosin :D
This dude rules!
i wonder if he knows that just like his guitar heroes, people like myself with rewind this and watch it over and over again, thanks teacher!! lol
hes a true genius. he is playing while hes talking. he talks about his practicing. but he practices without even doing so on purpose. just wow. music is runnig through his veins.
Very inspirational
2:40 I love that he doesn't write music from an musical theory standpoint and more of a emotional standpoint. A true musician indeed.
He seems really intillectual with out trying to hard, and he also gives off a really cool vibe and his hair is awesome, and as for his guitar playing, I don't even think I have to say anything.
This is one freakin classy guy. So cool!
you rock the 8 string like its supposed to be played. thank you
@Junnage i think ur right, i was just thinking in terms of being symmetrical to the higher strings. because difference between G and B is 2 tones instead of F# to B being 2.5
Amazing.
What a champ!
Watching with captions on and I gotta say...these would be great lyrics for AAL's songs!
@DarthNader11 No, it's not a floyd rose. It's an Ibanez Edge III trem, but it's a fixed bridge. It's mainly for tuning stability and to balance the tension on the instrument evenly

@12:02 sharp. that beginning phrase sounds almost like the intro to the first song, "An Infinite Regression" off their new album: Weightless.
aanother year at the beggining of the vid haha
this is so wierd, I've been listen to so much Animals as leaders stuff and then you guys interview him aha!
he just looks so classy
8:85. I love Tosin's ideas on music.
Crazily awesome guy .... guitar playing comes after that
I love how he keeps playing "silently" during the interview :P
@RicoMaximusv depends on how you string it, usually u just add a lower B and G string. but the guy from scale the summit i think added a hi A instead of a low G, so extra 2.5 tones higher and 2.5 semitones lower.

this made my day. :D
4:50, "Like, I didn't know that" (smile) this man loves guitar.
11:54 oh my gosh!! he's amazing.
I love how he just keeps making chords while he's talking.
Whoa 0:17 is the riff 3:20 into To Lead You To an Overwhelming Question. Weeeird how this video is almost 2 years old.
@getaliferetards Agreed....I'm not familiar with every single thing he's done but I've listened to Bruford "One of a Kind" countless number of times and his playing on that album is freaking amazing. Best guitarist ever. Period.
