As Time Goes By | Piano and Vocal Cover - Smooth Jazz Music

Here's my take on Herman Hupfeld's 'As Time Goes By', which was written in 1931 for the Broadway musical 'Everybody's Welcome'. The song was only a modest success initially, but after it was featured in the 1942 film 'Casablanca', it became incredibly popular. In fact, it is No. 2 on the American Film Institute's list of the best songs in film, surpassed only by Judy Garland's 'Over the Rainbow'. In 'Casablanca', Ilsa Lund (played by Ingrid Bergman) says to the piano player, Sam (played by Dooley Wilson): "Play it, Sam. Play 'As Time Goes By'," though this is often misquoted as "Play it again, Sam." The song has been covered by many artists, including Rudy Vallée, Billie Holiday, Jimmy Durante, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Vera Lynn, Andy Williams, Peggy Lee, and Tony Bennett.
