Dear viewers, we received a few comments with some of you correctly pointing out, that in one scene Charlie touches the reef while snorkelling. We are very grateful to see there is a lot of awareness and attention towards this, but want to let you know that Charlie knows the reef very well and is only using a rock to get a solid hold, definitely not any of the coral.☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼 Thank You for pointing this out and remember to never touch the reef and always be respectful of Your environment wether diving, snorkelling or even just taking a walk in the park. 🌍💙
This is actually quite relieving. I'm probably going to be snorkeling on a reef known for blacktips in Guam TOMORROW, and being from the Midwest, am a little apprehensive about big fish. Thanks for the great info!
Blacktip reef sharks are blacktip reef sharks. Some of those you see here, are indeed juveniles others a little more grown up. Generally they tend to be shy. Glad You like em! 💙
@@perhapsfreddie8434 Oh, no! That wasn´t sarcasm. I just didn´t realise which part of the video you were referring to. Those shown are juvenile blacktip reef shark. Or what did you mean by "The lux"?
@@WetSouls oh lmao sos, it was the drone footage of the house things on stilts in the drone shot, it looked like a hotel I stayed in when I visited the Maldives called the lux
Hello and thank you for your comment. I presume You refer to the recent attack in Egypt which by the way involved a female bull shark. Blacktip sharks, like many species of sharks, generally are not a significant threat to humans. They are typically quite cautious and would rather avoid encounters with people. However, certain circumstances can cause a change in their behavior. This could include disruptions in their natural environment and changes to their typical feeding patterns. Similarly, female sharks seeking a safe spot to give birth may act defensively if they perceive a threat. While such incidents are indeed tragic, they are relatively rare. It's essential to remember that the ocean is home to these creatures, and we are visitors in their world. By respecting the sea and its inhabitants, we can reduce potential risks and continue to enjoy the beauty and diversity the ocean offers. I found an article that gives more insight into the factors influencing shark behavior, (and especially relating to the recent attack in Egypt) which you might find interesting: www.thenationalnews.com/mena/egypt/2023/06/08/russian-man-killed-in-shark-attack-in-egyptian-red-sea-resort-of-hurghada/ Thanks again for engaging with our content, and I look forward to more insightful discussions! 💙💙👌👌
Shark populations are threatened by a combination of factors, including overfishing, habitat degradation, bycatch, and illegal fishing practices. It is important to note that not all Chinese people consume shark fin soup, and the demand for shark fins extends beyond China to other parts of Asia, as well as other regions of the world. To address the decline in shark populations, many countries, including China, have implemented measures to protect sharks and regulate the shark fin trade. China banned shark fin soup from official banquets in 2012, and there has been a noticeable decline in the consumption of shark fins in recent years. Additionally, numerous conservation organizations and activists are working globally to raise awareness about the importance of shark conservation and advocate for stronger protection measures. It is crucial to approach these issues with an understanding that conservation challenges are multifaceted and require collaboration among various stakeholders to achieve long-term solutions. By promoting sustainable fishing practices, supporting conservation efforts, and raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity, we can work towards protecting majestic animals like sharks and preserving our ecosystems for future generations. Hello Mishelle, thanks for stopping by. Indeed as you point out, it is important to approach marine environments with care and respect, and to follow established guidelines and best practices for interacting with marine life. 👌💙 Concerning the scene You mention, the one touched was a stone and not a coral. ☝ Charlie is a marine biologist and was trained and is knowledgeable about the marine environment and the organisms that inhabit it. As a marine biologist, Charlie understands the importance of respecting and preserving marine life and ecosystems. 😉 On this note, It is also worth noting that not all rocks and corals are alive, and some may be more resilient to human touch than others. Much love and safe diving. 💙💙👌
