Join me on this flight from Kandrian West New Britain Papua New Guinea, to Mok, a small jungle airstrip. Getting the grass cut on these small bush airstrips, is a daily struggle. Join along to see if the PNG citizens at Mok were able to hand cut the end of the airstrip with bush knives, so that I can land the Kodiak safely.
Whether you are a seasoned pilot, student pilot and wanting to learn to fly an airplane, or even an avid SIM pilot who just purchased Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (FS2020) or X-Plane, I think you will enjoy this cockpit view flight vlog into some of the most dangerous airports in the world.
Enjoy and consider subscribing if you like what you see. More bush flight vlog videos every week, so don't miss out. 👍

Mega drone shot, not many polot vloggers can pull that off
Really like the instrument view from the yoke! Great video. Thanks so much for the content!
Short flights in complex aeroplanes are always good fun. Flying by the numbers keeps you ahead of the aeroplane. It’s great to see. Really appreciate all you put in to making the vlog.
Thx for watching
I love to see the villagers line up to watch you land and take off, bit of a muddy ending Ryan ! , most enjoyable again mate , thankyou !
Thx for watching
Another safe journey. Enjoying every flight with you. 👍
Thanks 👍
Always a great mindset putting safety above all.
Thx
Man! that drone shot when you came into land was awesome. ✈️🙌
I agree. Any idea on how that was done?
@@homomorphic Maybe Ryan threw it out the window on final. LOL
@@SpringDivers that's what I was wondering.
Maybe the heli pilot did it?
I shot it a few years ago when another pilot was getting checked out into Mok
Wow those Kodiak's are some amazing aircraft for sure. It's pretty cool to see them in action doing exactly what they were designed to do. Thank Ryan for sharing this with me and bless you.
Thx for watching
I'm not sure what your passengers were thinking when you said, 'crack my door incase the fuselage bends when we hit the ground', but it's another great video, beautiful views along the coast and a very interesting insight into your decision make prosses on whether to commit to land or not.
I don't think that these passengers knew english.
Another great 25 minutes of footage Ryan, always enjoy watching your videos, keep them coming. Now to wash the plane after that wet soggy strip
Love this guys stuff...and that professional voice...my kinda pilot.
The quality of your videos is awesome 👍🏻
You even have the drone filming your landing 😇
Thx
You know that Ryan puts in a lot of time editing for a quality product👍
Ryan, nice short flight, at least you don't have to mow the crushed coral runways .All the coastal roads were made from the same material (it would rust all the cars).Stay away from those coconut trees, thay are not soft. Nice bit of drone footage along with a smooth landing. Thanks for the ride even if it was a short one.
Ryan. You're the main event. I can almost hear the excitement. "Ryan is coming. Get an autograph".
yeah, pilots are like reality tv here in PNG. NOt a lot of exciting things go on in the bush in PNG, so when a plane comes, that's fun stuff.
@@MissionaryBushPilot You're a star in my book, Ryan. Thanks for the white knuckle rides. You're doing a great service to those folks. The world needs more people like you.
Unbelievable how tiny that runway looks coming in on final! Perfect drone shot too! I bet some of those passengers were freaking out being in the air for after living in the bush all their lives. Well done!
Yeah I agree, I'm sure the passengers are a bit overwhelmed at times
Good to see the V2Track system in use - It was developed by friends of mine (one a former Missionary pilot himself) here in New Zealand. Really good piece of kit.
Truly enjoy all your videos. I am fascinated by PNG WW2 history. Keep up the awesome work thank you!
Great to hear it 🙂
Loved all the external shots in this one. Brilliant!
Thanks a ton!
Brilliant landing
- So what do you do at work all day besides flying passengers and cargo?
- I'm an expert in getting people to cut their grass.
Thanks for another great video Ryan! Well done :)
That usually fills my day up pretty much.
So charming to see all the people there to watch you and your PAX come in, it looked like all of Mok was out for you. Mind you of course, when the mountain rescue chopper landed in my valley we all went to see that too, but you landing there must be much more routine than that was. 115-years after the Wright brothers, aircraft are still a novelty.
Awesome video as always. Stay safe.👍✈️
Seen this vid already but being in the right seat though be it virtual is still Awesome
Great vlog, interesting and not too long, good stuff captain!!
Great videos and explanation of your routine to get into that landing strip.
thx for watching
"The story of my life" says the guy whose piloting passengers over jungle and rain-forest in a Kodiak 100 with amazing views outside his office window. I held my breath during the tear drop turn to finals. Thanks again Captain Ryan.
May that "office view" is amazing. Such a lucky guy to be blessed with it.
I do feel blessed to be doing this. It's super fun
why did you hold your breath?
Love the tail-wing camera!!!!
Incredible video again, thank you!
I think, NTE needed some cleaning afterwards! LOL
Amazing drone-video of yr landing!
Thanks again!
Yeah jam karet can be frustrating to the western mind. Great flight, muddy plane after that landing, the hectic fun never stops. Cheers.
Jam karet?
Never clicked on anything as fast as I do on your videos!
Glad to hear you enjoy them Michael
gonna do this flight after the video. i LOVE doing the sim version of these flights. so fun!
great to hear it, have fun
Great job Ryan I appreciate your dedication. Greetings from America!
Awesome! Thank you!
19:38 that shot right there! LOVE IT!
A delightful touch as always on the landing. Nice one Ryan 🙌
Many thanks
Your job title should be Stuntman not Pilot 👊
You’re editing skills match your high level piloting skills. Hopefully over time editing / prep for publishing has become quicker for you; really appreciate your efforts that consistently yield a great vlog, thank you.
In my opinion the best way to learn about the daily flights of a bush pilot. I am also looking forward to get my tmg license. I am learning so much from you. Keep up this good work
glad to hear it, thanks for watching!
nice landing..
I enjoyed that flight and the approach
Thx for watching
Awesome drone shot !
Great job with that landing!! Great view from the drone showing the landing as well.
Thanks a lot!
@@MissionaryBushPilot You're welcome. Thank you for sharing your videos of flying.
AWESOME FOOTAGE Ryan!!!! Last few minutes I had to remind myself to BREATHE!!! Commit or not to Commit!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love your work. Thank you for the video
Nice flyby. Awesome drone shot of the landing.
Thanks for typing in the airstrip names. Makes doing a copy FS flight so much easier :)
Amazing!
Ohhhh that mud is going to be hard to wash off. Great video by the way, superb landing.
Enjoyed the trip Ryan. Awesome landing. Tractor at Nayland has had a puncture and the grass has grow and although long it is certainly not four foot tall. They did well to hand cut but I expect that is normal for the area. Thanks for posting. Tim
The grass here grows so fast. It could easily grow a few feet in a month.
Great video Henry from London
Great stuff sir!
Another safe landing, but a bit of a muddy one
God Bless
Fantastic! Awesome video editing too.
Thanks
Great low level flight scenery!! Hope your compony doesn't mind you passing by risky landings, when you feel it's necessary!! Beautiful landing!! See the crowds waiting for you!!
My organisation would rather me be safe than to just make all my flights happen
So cool the drone shot
Have a safe flight. Your chanel rocks. Greetings from the Netherlands
Thanks!
Very nice as usual. I just watched the "Worst place to be a pilot" series here on UA-cam and WOW. You guys do have the right stuff to fly in that region. Lots of different challenges.
Thanks for watching!
Nice landing!
Thumps up if u like this pilot 👩✈️.. your a peace of master sir 🙏☝️👍👌👋
cleaning time,nice landing
Yes it was!
Your technical piloting skills are amazing!
many thanks!
Hello, my Favourite youtube pilot another great video. be safe
Thanks
That’s a dream job you got there Ryan, Congratulations for doing what you really like. I follow and like your blog. Best regards from Nicaragua 🇳🇮
Thanks so much!
AWESOME video!
At this rate you'll be at 200k subs in no time mate. Thanks for the vid! Weathers looking pretty good for tomorrow, hopefully some more solo time 😁
First time ive seen some POB in your video. Good one👍✈️
yeah 7 out of 10 flights have pax, i just don't film with missionaries on board.
That’s the first time I’ve ever seen you plow through a mud hole and splash mud all along the fuselage. Maybe you could get the ground guys to wash it off real quick while you’re unloading and loading. By the way, you are an incredibly talented and proficient pilot and it shows as always. Cheers.
Many thanks. Not the first time I've got the plane muddy. Some.pics on my Instagram show just how muddy I've gotten it.
Great Well done!
Finally, the secret of how he does the drone shot is revealed 😀
Good pilot, hope to fly with you one day, lol.
great video as usual. looks like the video quality is way better on a few of the camera angles, did you finally get the new equipment?
Yes, finally the new cameras came in
Excellent 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
Why only 100k subs? this channel must be 1mil subs bro nice work!
Maybe one day! I just started it back in April, so 100k is pretty good imo
Great job. Enjoyed the drone view of the landing. what precision ad a dirty underbelly to show how sloppy the runway is.
it was kinda muddy that day. Thankfully not too slippery
Maybe there is a business to be made keeping runways tidy in PNG. Ryan, Would you mind giving me and my tractor mower a lift between airfields ? 😂
Awesome video thx for sharing. 😊
Hello Ryan. Greetings from Michigan. Love your videos. Hopefully you’ll have a line of locals to clean off the mud from your cargo pod when you get back. 👋😁
I love it when you think out loud, very helpful.
Thanks for watching!
Great video from Dave Australia here.
Thx
In climbing, they refer to conditions similar to that as "technical"
Airproud95 does it in a sim, you do it irl! Sick
Quite a crowd. Were they there to watch the plane or to greet the passengers?
Both? :D
usually see the plane.
You certainly had a big welcoming committe, Ryan. I hopeth that they washed the mud off the Kodiak before you took off again.
No, I just wait until I get back to home base to get a wash
@@MissionaryBushPilot You could fly through a rain shower on the way. ;)
Super!!!
Oh, boy! I flew a C182 out of a 2300 strip and didn't realize the grass was tall, until taking off.....Talk about pucker factor!!! Barf? But she flew with 0 airspeed indicated........the LORD's hand helped us "slip the surly bonds of earth"......Your yoke camera is doing a great job! BTW, recommend losing the yoke camera on final.......just a suggestion.......outside is good.......your verbal on airspeed is good enough! I've had enough pins and needles for a while, LOL!
Thx for the suggestions
I love the yoke camera.
@@MissionaryBushPilot Do you ever do an IFR or MVFR approach.....of course not in the jungle, but at the "major" facilities? Just curious...forgive my ignorance!
@ 7:22 looks awesome below, have you ever gone snorkelling or scuba diving there? Are there sharks in the PNG waters?
Yes, I've been snorkeling in Kimbe, and yes, last time I did I saw a 6' reef shark
Another great video Ryan. Cheers buddy. Have you ever had an incident where a local approaches the aircraft when it's not safe to do so? Noticed your gesture at the end. I'm always worried kids would stand behind you for the buzz.
Not usually. I was giving that gesture to my own 9 yr old son who had ridden in on the helicopter. I guess he felt like it was okay even if the prop was still spinning down to start walking my way
Ryan
This was a simple flight, but for some reason some of the footage from the wing ad you flew along the shoreline was very picturesque.....they still pay you when you get to see see scenery like that right??😎😉
Patrick from Albuquerque
At least it wasn't a 4 foot long grass runway!
not this time, but last time it was!
Another great video, thank you 👍 Random question, are you more nervous (not that Captain Ryan ever get's nervous!) carrying passengers or fuel drums?
Nope l, I don't think of what im carrying, I just focus on what I need to do.
Yes the runway is flat besides the slope in the middle of runway
Hey Ryan, thanks for my weekend flying adventure.👍 By the way, have you ever had a bird strike especially flying that low?
The only thing I've hit so far was a huge bat with 4' wing span, but no birds
Great flying! I'm curious...do you wash the airplane or do you have maintenance people to do that?
We have a ground crew that washes the planes for us thankfully
Ryan, great stuff as always, thank you. Do you brief the passengers before a flight and do they react to a missed approach and the steep banking on the return to the airstrip? I guess I’m trying to get a feel for their flight experience as passengers because flying with you looks like one of the funnest things to do!
Yes, I told them what I was going to do, and if I couldn't land I would have had to take them to a nearby airstrip and had the heli come pick them up.
@@MissionaryBushPilot Great, thank you!
Like your new camera showing your "central instrument" (?) Keep on f(v)logging
Thx for watching
Thanks Ryan for all you do. Love your channel. Was that you that visited our church in Escondido CA a few years back?
It was probably another one of our Pilots Brent that lives in Orange County
Класс! Спасибо!
Maybe they should include a feature in the flight sims to constantly request that people cut the grass at air strips like this one.
Support Ryan on Patreon! It’s very high value. He posts more stuff than anyone else I support, including some great video after landing at the airstrip in this video. Check it out!
Greetings from Ireland Ryan, quick question, do you ever get advanced notice from anyone on the ground about landing strip conditions? not just grass height but as we see in this video very soft/water logged conditions could cause you major problems. Always in our prayers, stay safe and stay well. btw great drone shot! s
Some places we have contacts on the ground, but most places there is no cell coverage or their HF Radio isn't working
Will flight sim give your plan a stylish mud mark.
That would be cool
1:00 hey someone said bye to their relatives. 😅
When you headed back to the states?
Thanks again for the ride, I do love the flight. Question: How do you get the drone shots, they are great as well...
They are from another time I was in there a few years ago when another pilot was getting checked out there.
