The biggest epiphany I have ever had as a human being is realizing that being happy is a CHOICE. It changed me as a human being.

Living a luxurious life depends on the individual. What is hard is taking the time to really listen to yourself and find what is luxury to you, not what someone else feels is luxury. It could be as simple as taking an hour out of your busy day to do something for you or it could be buying that purse you have been wanting. The point is everyone's definition of luxury is different and should be respected.

    • @lydiamillen

Yes luxury is most definitely subjective that's why I went down the route of 'How *I* live a luxury life" rather than "How *to* live a luxury life" xxx

@@lydiamillen I appreciate your content but I do want to caution you that your video introduction does contradict with your response and your video title. On the video's 0.52 seconds you started with "I want to talk to you about how to create a luxurious life that does not cost anything." You actually did not say, "I want to talk to you about how I create....." This is just a verbiage caution based on your response to your viewer. This is not meant to stir anything. :)

Often the simplest things which feel like home are the luxuries of life, and materialistic luxuries are temporary fix. I think many of us learned this during lockdown. Walking in a sunny forest, having a moment sipping a coffee at sunrise, selfcare, having a puppy dog and loving family&friends are priceless. Totally agree that often we need to mute the noise from social media and find our happy place. ❤️👏🏼

I started fostering a senior dachshund at the same time as I broke up with my long term boyfriend after uni - I ended up keeping her, she became my best friend, and our long walks together after work is what got me through my heartbreak. She is truly a little angel, sent to me when I needed her most. Long story short- I agree with your dog walk rant! ❤️

I did a video very similar to this on my channel last year. Unfollowed 'friends'on facebook who i have never spoken to in years. Started journaling, curated my instagram, started drinking plenty of water. Ive just signed up to the gym today. Im feeling so much happier and in control of my life. Ive struggled with mental health issues for yeara, but doing these things has really helped me. Happiness comes from within. Yes buying luxury cars and nice handbags etc, is great but will only bring pleasure, which is external and only lasts for X amount of time. True happiness comes from within. Lydia, you have done an amazing job with video. I agree with everything you say❤

Ultimately, it's easy for someone to say that can afford nice, "luxurious" things. Self care is a luxury when you're using fancy products in your new bathroom in your big house. I'm happy for you Lydia but please don't dismiss those of us who want nice things but simply can't afford them. You even held up your most expensive bag in the thumbnail!

    • @lucyc3696
      @lucyc3696 3 роки тому +5

You dont need premium products, a new bathroom and a big house to think of self care as a luxury. I don't have any of those but for me I love doing my nails, putting a face mask on, deep conditioning my hair, tinting my eyelashes and brows etc in my small bathroom with high street products. You do you and what makes you feel good.

I agree! It’s easier for people who have it all and a lot of the times for free to say these things!!! And there are many who work all their life to make ends meet!!! It’s easier said then done! Luxury life is so very different to self care!!! You channel shows luxury and materials. I love your content and I think you have worked hard to get where you are but if you going to make content as per your thumbnail make sure it’s sounds really and relevant because you say everything you have isn’t luxury anymore then please help the ones that are in need by maybe donating it to charities.influencers get things for free and live a life which is luxury! It’s not fair when you say things which is different to what you show your viewers. #justmyopinion!!!!

Lydia, I think anyone with any modicum of thought can see that although you love luxury, and why not I say, your eyes only really light up when you were building your garden and greenhouse, taking Porterlino for a walk and seeing all that is around you when you jog and walk. Many don’t seem to grasp that you have achieved many goals and are now in a much more affluent position, they would rather see you with nothing, it makes them feel better which is so sad.
I will certainly continue to follow your vlogs and Instagram, I love all the ideas and you’ve given me such inspiration and positivity so let’s all be more kind women to women, even if we don’t agree some of us can hopefully stop overstepping the boundary of being unkind.
I’m 60, retired and used to love taking my springer for a walk until I lost him, I used to watch the farmer, see the sky, watch the lambs and this gave me great happiness, what a luxury to have to be able to, and I used to slowly feel relaxed……… I know what you mean 🌹

@@soo6087 Hi! I just had to comment to say that you're a wonderful writer and I was so touched by your mention of your dog too. I've never owned one, but I'm the biggest fan of canines. They light me up whenever I come across one in real life. I've walked into many poles because of these head turners! Is it true that by owning a dog you feel an amplified sense of pleasure in every day life? Like wearing rose tinted glasses all the time?
Frankly I don't want the hassle of teaching it and training it. I guess I'm not in the right chapter in my life to own one yet. I also travel a lot, so I'd hate to leave their side. I want to make sure they're trained professionally, and will be given the best life possible. I've dog sat for months before, but I wanted to check with a true owner like yourself, whether life really is la vie en rose avec le chien?💕 If so, in what small ways?

    • @soo6087
      @soo6087 3 роки тому

@@GildedFashion Hi Sara, that was totally unexpected thank you for the compliment x. To own a canine is something really special, it’s the unconditional love a dog gives (or any animal really) but especially a dog, they understand you, know your moods and it’s a fantastic way of getting exercise. I have lost 2 liver & white Springers, the last one Ben, who had such a gentle Soul, it was devastating.
I used to come in from work after 5 hours, this is the longest I would personally leave a dog, off we went across the fields, sheer pleasure. That’s what I call a complete luxury, we were as two most of the time, it was wonderful. After losing Ben, have only just decided the possibility of having another pup but only black & white. We are considering going to US with family 2023 so it will be afterwards as I have never left my dogs in kennels, (they fret and worry as Springers) then we will travel the UK and take the bundle of joy with us like we always have before. It’s a commitment but oh so worth it ! Thanks again, and hope one day you take the plunge, you will feel very loved ❤️

@@soo6087 Thank you so much for taking the time to describe what it's like to be a dog owner! It is very selfless work, but they love they give you every day seems to be well worth it! Just know that every stranger who smiles at your dog are very grateful to have a spark of joy in their day too, I'm speaking from experience as an outsider. It is always a privilege when owners feel comfortable to let me pet their canine babies, it always brightens my entire day. All the best for your future puppy!

Lydia, I loved this video, thank you so much for posting it🙏🏻 I’m so grateful. I was 2 minutes into video and I was already crying. I was one of those person who felt butterflies every single day, many times par day if I am completely honest. I felt butterflies when I smell coffee in the morning, when I saw beautiful sunset… and I lost that during pandemic. I felt so lost and heartbroken. I didn’t know what was wrong with me but I didn’t won’t to get out of bed every single day. It was like part of me was missing. And it was hard. But I tried and tried and failed I still could not find the joy in my life. But after couple of months it was a little bit easier. And few day ago Little spark appear - when I was in my home chilyon the sun with my cat. And I FINALLY have my 🦋🦋🦋 back.

I also realized that getting up early in the morning, going for a walk, being present is priceless etc ……., It is living, it is happiness and it is luxury and that the material stuff (bags, cars, jewelry etc….) it's a fleeting moment of joy that lasts a second, yes, I think that money is important and that it gives us choices and comfort, honestly, financial freedom is something that everyone needs to have, but it shouldn't be the center of our attention because it won't give us a sense of fulfilment .
Thanks for bringing this important topic to your channel, it's a good reflection.

Older generations had this sought of lifestyle, I find it fascinating that older generations would dream for being financially free. Yet, those who now are surrounded by materialism find luxury in the very basic nature of life and being.

I sat on a rock watching my husband paddle in the gentle waves with my elderly dog as it helps his arthritis (the dog)…..there was no where else I would rather be than in that moment. It was a pure luxury just to be there, oh …and such wonderful memories. Thank you Lydia

It is absolutely incredible how SIMILAR you become to the people you've been following for years. I got myself a dog in April (little miss Hermione) and deleted instagram in June for a break. I've been on pinterest since and I also started journaling a week ago with the five minute journal. My rose garden and peppermint plant were blooming this year like crazy! (Nothing better than a fresh cup of peppermint tea from your own plant in the evening) This Video was like a mirror to me. Showing me the process I have made in the past few months and I'm incredibly grateful for this vid Lydia! Thank you so much, I'm actually tearing up right now :'))

Same. I took social media off my phone in February, started reading about meditation and journaling, and found so much peace and happiness from this that I am protective over my habits. I definitely will be start adding 'regular movement' into my routine as I continue to finesse this. I am so glad to hear many of us are on the same journey.

Thanks for this video. We share several things that make us happy. I, too, have been blessed with living in the countryside.
I don't do journaling, but I do gratitude journaling. When I wake up, while I am still in bed, I take my little gratitude journal and write down 3 things for which I am grateful and 3 goals I have for the day: the goals are general ones, not to-do lists, mostly goals of how I want to feel during the day. Then repeat some affirmations and do a quick meditation (I choose from a variety, whatever feels good for me on that day).
Another thing I adore when I am feeling overwhelmed is going on the grass barefoot. I sit down and just focus on what I feel with my feet touching the ground and grass. I love it.
In one of your videos you said you treat monday mornings as new beginnings, and I particularly appreciated that: I am trying to do that now, as well.

Something that is the biggest luxury I can give myself is going uncontactable for the entire night. My friends and family know to not expect a reply from me after half past eight at night, that I'll get back to them in the morning. (If it's an emergency, they know to call and that I'll always answer, but to only call after that time if it is an emergency).
The clear headedness, the peace, and the amazing sleep that practising this gives me is incomparable!!

I just had this same conversation with my mom this morning. It is everything my UA-cam channel is all about. I call it “Elevating the Everyday”. It is my life’s motto and I try to show how it can be done by being an example to inspire others. It doesn’t cost any money to take note of the things that fill you up. I’m glad that I am not the only one who is talking about this. For me, luxury is having peace of mind. To be at ease in my own body and in my own home and relationships. Life is hard enough to live without complicating it with toxic relationships and being uncomfortable in your own skin. It took me years to learn it but now that I have, I will protect my peace of mind always.

Hi Lydia, thanks for a lovely and inspiring video. You’ve definitely given me a lot to think about. Personally sleep is my most important luxury. But someday you will become a mother and sleep will be a fond memory. Then later peri menopause and menopause will mess with your sleep patterns again. I’m 59 and haven’t slept well since I was 45. I would give up a luxury handbag for a good nights sleep!

But everything you said resonated with me. Specially the “iron your sheets” 😁 I’ve always felt unbelievably luxurious when I go into bed freshly out of the shower, clean pjs, clean and ironed white sheets and spritz of lavender in the air. There is nothing more luxurious 😄🌻 I love you and send you my gratitude for being a fabulous human and a true inspiration.

I got a canon dslr for my birthday last year and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever got because it means I don’t have to take my phone out! I can go on dog walks with my daughter and enjoy it, and if I want to take a photo I’m not being distracted by whatever notification was on my Lock Screen when I pulled my phone out! I love it. I live in Wiltshire and I really really appreciate the history and heritage of my local area, my daughter is the same. She notices the seasons changing, she will point out a beautiful spiderweb covered in morning dew on our way to school, and it’s those things that I live for ❤️

Yes Lydia, this is the luxury life I call my life . Picking my own herbs and veggies from our garden, the walks and appreciation of the surroundings, the organisation, the exercising, the ironing of bed sheets, it’s all me! One other thing I wanted to add, that I unconsciously do, that actually fills up my cup is an outdoor decking space that’s closed off with glass, fixed with a wood log fireplace for the winter time. Sit there and watch the rain pour on a freezing winters day, and enjoy the greenery and nature’s wild weather. It’s the best feeling. It brings a special joy and we feel like the luckiest people in the world having this simple appreciation for life, we never sit indoors, even guests come straight out the back!

@@gemmaknight8856 You’re missing the point here. Lydia is defining happiness for herself has luxury. However, Natalie and Kathryn are pointing out the true definition - if Lydia wants to view and define happiness as rare, special and hard that’s fine for herself but this is not the true definition (please no hate, I’m not attacking Lydia) Happiness is a choice it’s not rare, special or hard it’s within all of us - you only have to see poor people in 3rd world countries to see most make the choice to be happy. Having a room full of fleeting items and a tin hut has a house is irrelevant and just the situation. Life’s challenges remain in both situations, even if one is better off - both still feel low emotions i.e. I can go for the free luxury walk with the dog and choose to be unhappy..
To say happiness is rare, special and hard I think is dangerous and gives a large audience a view that this mental state is rarely obtainable and a ‘luxury’ (obtainable by a few) purely based on the universal definition & perception of the word - which is not the case.
Really happy for Lydia, her happiness and journey but the video is a bit misleading for me. Luxury and happiness are not interchangeable.

It’s taught me to appreciate nature and being in the moment a lot more, so although it was a hard time for some I gained something positive out of it. I also journal everyday and write my grateful list as I find this helps me to record my life and something to look back on to see if my life has progressed, especially at the moment whilst going through family problems and a difficult neighbour, which is bringing me down. I wake feeling so unmotivational but as soon as I write a TO DO list it makes me get up so I can work through them to keep my mind occupied, makes me feel good crossing them off and by the end of the day I feel I’ve achieved something. love a To Do list 🙂 I always look forward to you feeds and UA-cam videos as I like to see what you have bought and how you live your life, you have inspired me so much and you bring me happiness. 🤗

But, just the realization that your thoughts, your advice and your communications are rooted in calm, confident (but not arrogant) energy, is a joy to watch. You clearly are respecting the feelings of your audience, but not feeling pressured by them. I said a few months ago that you didn't seem engaged with your audience, which, as a fellow UA-camr, I felt it was a missed opportunity... and I said so. But, as you sit here today, you really seem to have developed that The Happiness Muscle... the realization that time, relationships, wisdom, time...time...time, are the real luxury. Good for you in sharing that with all your subscribers...you may well have planted the Seeds of Peace with someone today. And that, my girl, is the ultimate luxury... Well done. ;-)
