- On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we continue with the “Why Not” questions about what is reasonable to believe. In this episode, we examine Mormonism or, as it is officially known, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On the surface, there are many similarities between Mormon families and traditional Catholic families. Their values seem to match up. But even though the surface is similar, there are substantial differences between Mormon beliefs and Christianity.

You are so smart Father. I was a devout LDS for 60 yrs and discovering there was no apostasy thru the early fathers , caused my faith to go poof. I have now been a Catholic for over 5 yrs. I am very impressed with what you were able to conclude about how to approach us. It’s such a confusing mess…no one knows where to begin.
Some years ago, a neighbor and I spoke with Mormon missionaries for over 2 hours at his dining room table. The conversation went roundabout for most of that time until we settled in on the supposed "Great Apostacy." The older of the two shut down the conversation because the young man he was mentoring was very receptive to our arguments, mostly that Catholic belief had never changed since the time of the Apostles. They said they had no answer.
They promised to return with a response but never did. I often think of those young men and pray that they were converted.
Interestingly, both Baptists and Mohammadans believe some version of that same error.
It's amazing how much Smiths story sounds like Muhammad.
I converted to the Church in 2004 and while I was in RCIA (I came in through the NO and found tradition after) I spoke at great length with Mormon missionaries. I look back on it now like a testing to see if I would pick correctly. The Mormons are very sincere but I found their religion to be entirely unserious.
My ancient family Encyclopedia Brittanica said that their ceremonies are exact replicas of the Masonic Rites .

I listened to this in the morning and had mormons show up this afternoon. Thank you, Fr Themann, for the preparation.
I moved here to Utah 30 years ago. I have done intense research and studies on Mormonism. There is so much wrong that Father hasn’t even covered.
It blew my mind when talking to a lady in the choir who was a convert to Catholicism but still insists that Jesus and Satan are twin brothers. Biggest error with these folks is the do not believe that Jesus dying on the cross to give us salvation. They don’t believe in saving grace only works MIGHT save you.
Thank you both Fr. and Andrew for being charitable in informing those watching this podcast about the Mormon Faith and highlighting the numerous difference between Mormonism and Catholiscm.
The podcast is all the more relevant given the Mormon ad that airs just before it. Protestants, Mormons included do not have a theology. They have the absence of one because they have rebelled against Catholicism.
Excellent exposition of apologetics against the mormons. I grew up and still live in a house which is half a block from an LDS church. I am Catholic: my Basilica church and school is 2 blocks in the other direction. What you pointed out about LDS celestial marriage beliefs is quite an incisive talking point. When the Pharisees asked Jesus about the woman serially married to seven brothers, in heaven whose wife would she be, Jesus was clear about human marriage not being a feature of the afterlife. Asking a Mormon about this part of the Gospel should be interesting! Thanks for a great discussion!
I have watched many of your SSPX sponsored videos now. I always learn so much and I am impressed with your calm patient demeanor.
Just here to suggest that some of the different main branches of protestantism end up getting separate episodes or at least segments when you eventually come to them.
And thank you all for this series
I love good solid orthodox Christianity. I’m the product of years of solid orthodox teaching and thankful for it.
Beautifully explained, Fr Themann. I will take those quotes from the Bible in case I need to use them. Viva Christo Rey!
Thank you Fr Themann. Valuable podcast - the tips are excellent.
God bless you.
One is forced to conclude that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is utterly fantastic!
Hoping an episode can be done on Protestantism which is probably the biggest enemy of the Catholic Church.
The issue is there are so many random groups and they all have different levels of issues.
I have mormons coming over tonight, and have finished catechism but not been baptized yet. Looking forward to having a rather socratic conversation tonight!
Hopefully God shines his truth upon you. If you can stump them, they won't come back, they'll be instructed not to.
Become a God and get your own planet is straight outta the occult books of the newage pagans. I know this because i was one.
If the mormon god was made by his own god,why don't we worship the prime mover-OH WAIT
It's a strange this to say, but even as an ex-Catholic atheist, I do appreciate this video bringing in some Catholic perspective on Mormons now that I live in Utah. "Unusual" is the nicest way to put it.
Thank you for posting! Ave Maria
Thanks. Very interesting coverage of the Mormon faith
Thanks!
I am a former Mormon and now am converted to Eastern Orthodoxy, with a strong love for my catholic brothers and sisters in Christ ☦️
Thank you
Amazing how much Smiths story sounds like Muh0mmad
Minus marrying a 6 year old, right?
and L. Ron Hubbard
Don't call them the church of "Jesus Christ" of latter day saints. Just say...the mormon church. Let's not tie our Lord's name with this entity.
Yes, we (LDS) do believe that the Heavens are not closed, the Lord continues to reveal his will to us in our day!
However, if Jesus Christ physically ressurected, ate with his disciples and they touched him to show that his ressurection was real...
Wouldn't he still have that body!? A perfect and glorified body! Unless Jesus died again!?😮
Truth is truth. To entertain the mormon concept that God once was sinful and the "president" is equal to Jesus is over the top!
The mormon parents and children told my 4 year old son that because his father deserted him and I would result in my son going to prison. SMH
Mormon more like Wahabis version of Christianity. Freemason influence too
I remember seeing a brochure put out by the Mormons themselves. It stated that in the time of Jesus the devil told Him that he could get more people to follow him (the devil) than Jesus. Jesus agreed and all the people who followed the devil were black people (!!) and all the white people followed Jesus. I couldn't believe what i was reading. I was told by someone that the Mormon Church did not allow black people in their Church, then my husband asked his boss about it and he shrugged it off and said that's the way it used to be but not anymore. Still.....😱😰😨
Please quit apologizing by alluding to "cheap shots." Pointing out Truth is not a cheap shot.
Will there be a Judaism apologetics video or is that considered to be covered by the OT prophecy videos?
Probably a taboo topic for the modern SSPX.

If nothing else, this religion is quit creative in its creation
What does Father mean by, “It doesn’t work in either direction.”
In the west we call them mountain jews. Strong in group preference, an odd ethnic aspect, very weird about money.
Explains how they keep voting for people like Mitt and Jon Huntsman
The Jews were also upset when Jesus came. Called him a heretic, blasphemer, equal with God, etc... Same ol' behaviors.
You dont have to prove others are wrong to prove that you are right.
It's moron-eye...not moron-eee 😂
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is quite simply, a beacon of light and truth! The restoration, foretold by prophets, of the Lord’s Church founded on prophets and apostles, the Lord Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone!
It is quite simply, the restitution of all things (Book of Acts) spoken of by all of the Holy prophets since the beginning!
Welcome to the final and culminating dispensation! The Dispensation of the Fullness of Times, long awaited, preparing the world for the winding up scenes, prior to the Lord’s Second Coming!
It is, in fact, that stone, spoken of by the prophet Daniel, cut out of the mountains, as it were, without hands, filling the Earth in preparation for the millennial Messiah!😊
Yes, we are Christians, but certainly not, Nicean or creed believing Christians! We believe the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost are ONE, in purpose, and certainly in every conceivable way! They are, however, not one in substance, but like any father and son, they are separate and distinct beings!😊
Cleary the Savior prayed earnestly to his Father in the Garden of Gethsemane... Not my will, but thy will be done! A father and son! Two wills! The atonement, the Son pleading to his father in heaven, that if possible, let this cup pass! Nevertheless, THY will, not MY will be done!😊
I am happy to hear that you seem to agree that "by their fruits" ye shall know them!
Why i AM banned on Polish FSSPX channels ?
You must be Polish.
...
scientology?
Maybe you should do one on the strange man that is infallible the Catholic Church.
They have Michelle, search for it in their apologetic series. Stay focused on the truths revealed in this video. The truth hurts, but it will set you free. Be not afraid.
Thank God for American Baptists. Weren’t they one of the first denominations to ordain African American pastors? Or was that Northern Baptists?
14:15 “casual racism” big yikes, not expecting woke sspx
What’s woke about Catholics addressing the Anglo-Protestant idea of race?
In two ways your very title is a lie. So how can you expect people to believe anything else you say? Whether you believe that The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints meets your specific definition of a Christian religion, it definitely truly is still a religion. And though it is all over the world as a global religion, it still started in America, so clearly it is an American religion in truth. Perhaps in the future you will not be so deceptive, which I hope was unintentional.
There’s nothing wrong with the title. LDS is a false religion. I live in Utah. Moved here 30 years ago and I have done intense research and studies on Mormonism. Made me a stronger catholic.
